Here's how you fix the UEFA competitions:

Champions League - Only two teams from the top 10 leagues and one from everyone else get in. Structured the same as currently, a 32 team group stage in which all the top 10 league entrants get in and 12 more from a qualifying group stage in which the other champions compete in groups of four (getting those teams more games). The top 8 league's champions are seeded for the group stage, the rest of the draw is random. Third place no longer drops down, only the top two move onto the Round of 16 as is currently the case.

Cup Winner's Cup - The one highest placing team in each country's national cup competition that is not otherwise in the Champions League competes in an old school, two-legged, random-draw-every-round, European cup competition.

UEFA Cup - Berths for all of the remaining current European slots. All teams must enter at some level of qualifying before reaching a 32 team group stage, similar to the current CL.

All three finals will be played on the same weekend, with a UEFA/CWC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon and evening, and the CL final on Sunday afternoon.

This would retain the money-printing concept of a best-against-best weekday Champions League, but make it much more difficult to entrench into permanently, and open the competition up to far more countries and potential upsets and randomness. It would place greater emphasis on cup competitions and bring back the exciting cup-style random draw structure. And it would give each competition its own flavor, and eliminate the ability to fall through trap doors from one to the other. And putting the finals together would put the secondary competitions on the quasi-equal footing they deserve, which ought to also be reflected in the prize money distribution.

We should treat this competition seriously. It's basically Europa League with some village teams, which we could face, obviously.

Also Mourinho' Roma and Emery's Villareal are very though opponents.

Lets win it!
No it is not. Europa League most of the time doesn't give clubs big enough TV money, nor prize money, to justify teams to go all the way. UEFA had to up the ante with CL qualification for the winner.

This competition is even worse regarding the attraction (TV money), and prize: winner qualified for Europa League the following season. Think about it. If Levy had plan after sacking Mourinho, we could have at least gotten Europa League. CL qualification was within reach if we look at how Dippers just snatched third place, despite they were where we were for almost the season. Chavski and Leicester were there for the taking.

This is even worse than League Cup, and FA Cup given that there is absence of top clubs. Winning something in our situation would be nice, but this competition makes it feel as if this is losers' competition. Teams from top leagues who won the cups also qualified for better competition.

If you're using this justification, I assume you also think we should play the youth in the league cup, as it pays literally <1% of what you earn in the Europa.

In early round, against lower league teams, yes youth, bench players should play as long as the team is strong enough to advance. There is top teams in league cup to justify to advance and have a go. The sacrifice for this while focusing on the league is manageable.

Europa League with CL pathway is good enough to make the sacrifice. This ECL is not. Why? Thursday football and travel would affect the league schedule the whole season, yet the prize is meh. There is no big match up to look forward to.

We don't play the early rounds - we are seeded for just one head-to-head then into the group stage.

Realistically we will be one of the highest ranked teams in the competition so all games are 'easy' that said as we proved this season we can lose to anyone ...

Hopefully we play kids in the qualifier, lose, and avoid the whole thing.

Genuinely hope we enter the academy into this. Maybe even have an entirely separate coaching team altogether so that it in no way at interferes with domestic matches.

Can you imagine sitting Son down and talking contract terms?
"You can have an extra £20k a week if you agree to play against Bosnian farmers on a mud bath of a pitch and the constant threat of a career ending injury"

agree we need separate coaching/management of this ECL squad with the squad made up of 2nd 11 from first team and young pro's
yes its a farmers league but they will be men playing it and no mugs ,they won't take prisoners when they play us

It's a total disgrace that 8th richest club in the world is playing some two Bob don't give a fuck poor man's trophy in the dredges of outer Europe.
The games will be at least half empty and a experience to grind the soul .
Brilliant piece of bollocks and another resolute fuck up by those disinterested imbecile cunts upstairs.

15 or 17 games till glory.........

Roma and Villareal "look like" the only credible opposition but I can see many frustrating Thursday nights ahead where we scrape a 1 nil win over a bunch of part timers or are held to a boring crappy draw.

And then the manager comes out with stuff like "There are no easy games in modern football......"
