What counts as casual staff ?

The catering staff were zero hours. The security and FM staff were / are contractors, if they were stepped down then it would have been the contractors applying for Furlough not the club. And the contractors also can claim contractor relief. Genuine question, who were Spurs putting on Furlough ?

government FA / UEFA collectively. But splitting hairs I know. Sport England were handing out money, and the estimate was that collectively the Premier League could lose as much as £2b from a season behind closed doors. I don’t see how they can just “suck it up” But then I get confused as the estimate is that 86% of revenue is from broadcast and commercials and not match day income, which would suggest that the clubs took the hit in the area they could afford

What loans were paid off with the £150m ? Just curious, I don’t think your wrong, but would be interesting to know if it was necessary or opportunity.

what games were not played? . All fixtures were moved and played. The facility fee per premier league match on tv is £1.2m. The obligation would remain for 2019-20 season regardless.

And for 2020-21 why would the clubs not insist on this fee not being paid for all games, rather than just the agreed contracted games? It seems a daft thing to do when your revenue is already compromised to give your product away for the benefit of just Comcast, Amazon, BT

Fair enough.

Sorry, not sure what you mean here. Why do the books need balancing at all when the FFP penalty is ridiculously low even when applied to the mega rich ?

So why, if the club is in trouble, would the owners Tavistock group, not want to plug the gap now, when it matters ?

Overall it’s a Job Levy was able to show the same level of prudence as Gordon Brown with the stadium project. Imagine where we would be if it had over run and gone over budget. Good job too he has pandemic insurance to limit the potential risks.
I don't know why you are trying to have a reasonable debate with this disingenuous idiot, he will never listen, he has no interest in hearing valid criticism of Levy or Lewis, his sole purpose on this board is to defend their shit actions towards the club and supporters.

This guy isn't a THFC supporter, he's a ENIC supporter.

Always worth 5 minutes to challenge the narratives.

China have the 50 cent Army

UK has the 77th Brigade.

ENIC probably have similar people all over these forums to champion them. Not suggesting at all that’s what Harry is doing, he has his views. I have mine.

Let’s just say for argument sake money is tight and has been for a while. Why then do we not follow the model of clubs like Dortmund.

- get a DoF like Rangnick who works with young players
- develop youth and buy youth
- get a manager who complements Rangnick
- sell players for good money to allow space for new young players to come through

This is the cheapest obtainable method of success. Why then did Levy when given the choice of Jose and Nagelsmann after Poch got sacked go for Jose, a past it manager who needs a giant cheque book rather than a manager who is proven to work with young players.

You can argue that we have limited funds but if that is the case that immediately makes Levy’s job untenable as he followed a model that requires a large cheque book making him basically an idiot, at least in terms of understanding how football (not football finances) work. His cry of poverty and his strategy don’t match at least from a logic point of view.

Levy’s current strategy is to go into Harrods with an Aldi budget and hope to charm the cashier into accepting a 10th of the price.
Excellent post
No this us a dose of reality

The anti-Levy hystericals are like Jehovah's Witnesses. You can't reason with them and they won't go away while you are trying to have a normal conversation.

How much money have we lost due to Stadium Closure, lack of Champs League, refund of TV revenue (COVID), Mourinho
  • 134m fy2020 (difference between 2019 profit). Given improvements in other areas (sponsorship & NFL), the GAP is likely as high as 180m for expected vs reality.
  • 150m fy2021 (estimated by Levy in Nov20 ). This is likely to be higher with the 2nd Covid lockdown, Mourinho failure and prolonged closure of the stadium.
In summary, we are probably close to 400m behind where we would have forecast in 2019.

Why is the club obsessed with Top 4
Unfortunately, under the current FIFA/UEFA setup (which everyone so desperately didn't want to change) Champions league is a clubs 2nd main source of revenue (behind EPL tv income). There is no (financial) incentive to win domestic cup and domestic league.
  • 2019 for example
  • Champions league final - 108m
  • Champions league last 16 = 63m
  • Domestic competitions (inc a semi final) = 3.1m
Why can't Levy or Joe gift the club $$$
Financial fair play rules do not allow this. Squad improvements can be made only with club revenue. Yes, City did bend the rules - but that's an entirely different argument.

We could issue more share capital too them. Or they could make a loan - but that would have to be paid back.

Sell all this crap lazy players - get new ones!
Every club is in the same boat. There is very little money to be spent. We have to sell players before we can buy them. How much do you expect WInks, Sissoko, Lamela, Aurier to fetch in the current market? 50m tops I would expect....Now you have to find 4 improvements with a 50m budget.

Why didn't we get CONTE - He's a winner
Unless he is happy with a good portion of the existing squad, it ain't going to happen.

Is there any hope?????
  • Stadium reopening
  • Stadium naming rights
  • NFL revenues
  • Sessegnon, Skipp, Scarlett, Devine, Parrott growing into good players for the future
  • With low expectations, the race for top 4 in 2022 should be quite exciting to watch

Great post. 👏 Thanks for taking the time.

The stadium is a vehicle for Enic to grow their investment beyond football not necessary any benefit to THFC.
The stadium while being payed for by THFC was a financial disaster , way over budget and maybe £200/300 spent on facilities for NFL , pop concerts etc.. All financed by the football side .
The reality is Enic have no interest in a world beating football team . Just enough to grab what cash they can at minimal expenditure .
The club can finance other adventures such as buying property , golf courses .
In 5 years the NFL will have a permanent franchise , with its safety net for high profit without monetary risk as football. That is their long term strategy.
The reality is we are fucked.

Bullshit
