I'd be shocked if Kane doesn't happen. Clear thing is City not even linked with another top striker, they clearly just have their eyes on Kane and we can all read between the lines of Kanes behaviour.

It wouldn't surprise me if Martinez and Vlahovic come. The news of a replacement being to work with Kane I think is just to cool the selling club that we have money from a Kane deal. We negotiate fair prices for both strikers and once a deal is agreed you could see a quick turnaround of two in and Kane out.

Ajax manager seemed clear on wanting Bergwijn also, there's a lot still to go.

Kane has definitely caused us issues. The plan was probably not to sell him unless the right fee was reached, but him not appearing for training and City lowballing has a knock on effect to the rest of our business with new attackers. Teams will know we're desperate and have to do a Sissoko type transfer to plug a hole if Kane leaves and others know we've just had a big load of money paid in.
This is spurs so I doubt very much that those two strikers would come in although if they did I think it strengthens us.
More likely scenario is the cheaper option of the two comes in with an even cheaper option to back that up.

Whether we are stronger will only manifest in the fullness of time, though I do get your point.

However, your last sentence is just a bit over the top. Last season we were effectively a win or three away from CL qualification, and that was after the wheels fell off midway through the season. We dropped a shedload of points from winning positions due to effectively stopping all of the things that got us into winning positions in the first place. Even if we only reach par on squad strength after this window, the coaching doesn't need to be "God level" to improve on that.

I can accept that certain teams around us appear to have strengthened 'on paper', but who is to say their players will be any better in strengthening them than ours will us?

Nuno appears to be coaching them well so far. It remains to be seen whether that will make the points difference to elevate us back into those CL places we crave.
We all tend to get overly excited by new players and downgrade some of the ones who the newness has worn off of. If Spurs still have four or five guys who need to be moved on then again so do the teams we compete against. The big question for me about the season is whether Kane is part of it. If he is there then there is a chance they can enter the last ten games in striking distance of the top four. That's where Nuno will either show us he was the right choice or not.

Grealish improves City? They have Sterling, Foden and Mahrez there for fuck sake!
I do agree on United and Villa.
Leicester haven't upgraded at all. They bought 2 players, 1 who will be the Vardy sub (Daka), and the other who is nowhere near Ndidi when it comes to a DM.
The Scum have just gotten Ben White for 50M, that's an improvement but throwing money to the fire in the process.
People should stop thinking buying players all the time improves clubs. If we just buy dross like Vestergaard or Andersen, we've not improved, we've just barely gone sideways...

I reckon Stirling is on his way out. I actually wonder whether they see Foden as replaceable. I've watched him and I just can't understand the intense hype.

This isn't really in response to your post but you also can't under estimate the value of good "subs"
We completely did in 2018. Being able to make 3 changes in a match that actually make a difference. Being able to to switch the whole side up for a cup game and still go through without a fight against a league 1 team. Getting an injury and your season not falling apart.

We've never been good at it. And I'd always argue no one in a good 25 man squad should be viewed as backup, reserve, sub etc. Just a part of a 25 man squad that will get games because they're good enough.

Every time I’ve watched Torres I’ve been unimpressed.

His huge physical limitations would really concern me.
I disagree. I think he’s a really classy defender and his calmness and intelligence greatly make up for his supposed lack of physicality. He reminds me very much of Vertonghen when he first joined.

I think he’d be an outstanding partner for Romero, they’d compliment each other greatly.

The problem Newcastle had was they overspent and were spending with no real plan and were not developing young players to replace their first team players. Mike Ashley as much as they hate him at least balances the books and has failed to really make money at Newcastle to turn them into a good club again. They are now left with an outdated stadium and have a squad full of players with little value and further affected by Coronavirus.

They're nothing today. It's kinda sad and if I was a Newcastle fan, I'd blame Stevie Carr.
"I wanna go to a bigger club and win things"

Well that went well.

Man, I've got this horrible feeling we could live to regret selling him to Ajax.

But, on the other hand, if it freed up an attacking winger slot that could be invested in with the eventual Kane money, it could be tempting. I think something that has been disappointing with Bergwijn is that he's quick but not lightning fast.
I do find it slightly funny that people say we should recruit like Leicester/Dortmund/Ajax etc.. with smart young signings, and then Ajax want Bergwijn and are possibly willing to break their transfer record to do so and no one thinks twice about it.

18 months under Mourinho did him no favors.

True, but I guess they don't always come off - Demarai Gray would be testament to that. I'm honestly a little unsure about why Ajax are so keen, but I guess it's no bad thing to have interest in your players.

I don't think we should get carried away about Kane money.... If he goes, just spend big replacing him and as big as possible at ST2 and see if there's any left.

If Ajax are actively seeking Stevie, then we should at least command what we paid for him which should go a long way in replacing him anyway.

Want to believe but reeks of lazy English journalism.

Yesterday, random Argentinian source "breaks story"

Today, English journalist with the standard cookie cutter "release clause is this but Spurs hope negotiate lower bullshit"

I didn't realise that story came from Argentina.... Makes no sense; why would they have the scoop on a Spanish La Liga player going to an English team with an Italian DOF?
