I don't think it's logical when he wasn't playing that role at all. West Ham needed a 10 so he played 10, otherwise he hasn't had games.
I'm not sure I understand this statement. He's traditionally been an box-to-box/CAM
And regardless of that, he's more productive than our 10 options as well .. so if you wanna swap out Lucas for Lo Celso, go ahead.
Gio isn't a starter though. See post #1.... My point was very much JL = bench player for us.....
You're only conceding to that notion here.
Alli hasn't been in the England squad for years. Lingard's getting games instead of guys like Sancho or Foden on the wing, not Alli anymore. Lingard was out in the cold whilst he wasn't getting matches, but Southgate's always liked him.
Neither had Lingard (again see injury and personal problems) until he played in that friendly just before the euros... A game in which his inclusion was an anomaly cos all the United, City & Chav players that had actually made the euros squad were still on a break after the European club finals.
Since then he played against Andora >>> Foden was injured for that game and Sancho also played.
I think you're needlessly reaching on the England front; mostly because it's not that relevant anyway..... The Brazil/England thing is extremely tenuous as they're different positions and different pools of players to pick from.
Raphina and Jesus play RW for Brazil, I think.
Who would you prefer for Spurs? Raphina is considered hot shit by some on here..... (pure curiosity here; as above I don't see the particular relevance of the international element of this debate.)
Which aren't better options than Sterling, Sancho, Foden etc.
See above re Fodon & Sancho...... You're citing Sterling now too? My friend; you're past the tipping point to bogus here now.
Rashford, Grealish, Sterling, Fodon, Sancho, Mount (have I missed anyone?) are all ahead of Lingard in the England pecking order... He's keeping NONE of them out of the squad; let alone the team. Even Greenwood got picked ahead of JL last season (only to fuck it up by getting himself in Gary's bad books during lockdown).
Facts are Lingard has shown form semi-recently which justified a call up, Lucas hasn't in years. Regardless of where each of them played, Lingard more than doubled Lucas' goal tally over the last 2 seasons in a 6 month period.
It absolutely matters though. Mosty because you're proposing we replace a RW with a box-to-box/CAM type player.
If the discussion embarked upon was merely who's scored more then there would have been no debate (from me at least) to start with.
I think with HG status taken in to account, he's a decent upgrade, and especially useful as he can play 10 and RW, both of which we lack productive players in.
I've already shown however that as far as RW/LW goes JL
isn't any more productive.... As far as wing play goes you've yet to establish in what way JL
is an upgrade on LM.
HG factor: acknowledged
