Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If this Kulu fella is indeed a trequartista style player then im very pleased about this move, its the position (someone creative in the Number 10 area of the pitch) we desperately need someone in given our options there are all broken. Also on a loan to buy means zero risk, if a better option becomes available in the summer we can pursue that instead.

So Barca, Woolwich, Liverpool and even a non league side haven't been mocking us?

Barca publicly joked about the surprise when Spurs payed that much for Emerson. Areteta and Co also made it we'll know they pulled out if a deal because he isn't good enough.

Do you really think Emerson will make a turn around? Wake Up.
If you're allowing yourself to be mocked by a team who shirked a North London Derby, and have spent the entire window being told to fuck off by Vlahovic then that's a you problem not a me problem.

Dembele clearly and exciting signing of he comes, and can play up front as well as off the flank, he was lovely to watch at Dortmund. But my god his injury record and his attitude 🤦🏻‍♂️ it’s like we’re shipping out Ndombele and Lo Celso to replace them both with one guy who can combine both their biggest drawbacks.

That said, I love a maverick French winger with skills for days so I can’t help but get excited by this link.

Sure I think that is always the best way. Even the top clubs like City do this to an extent.

I just think that saying some of our big purchases in the past haven't worked out so we shouldn't go for them is the wrong approach because we have seen that is the best way for teams to get in the quality for top 4 and Cup winning teams.
I think we also need to develop players better. Apart from Kane no one else has come through in a big way. Some dele types as well. Finally better coaching which just doesn’t rely on spending big to be successful. Poch managed it for a few years. I’m sure a good coach can make a team better than the sum of its parts and play good attacking possesion based football. The big name managers unless they have great academy players tend to spend the big bucks as quick fire way to success.

yeh in that role I guess he would be decent. Thing is, Kane and him don't possess much pace between them and Cinte doesn't really play that formation.

Maybe him in the 3 man midfield playing slightly advanced could work though.

If he comes he'll only play 7 games, but MY GOD will he be fun to watch in those games.

Unlikely. He's wanted by Chelski and has played for Tuchel before.

Also, he's very injury prone and very, very expensive. He's missed almost as many games as Lamela in the past 5 years, but Erik's were mostly in a few bad periods of injury (/cocaine addiction).

I'd love prime, injury-free Dembele here, but I'm not sure we can afford him (for all the above reasons).

EDIT: fuck me, he's only 25... I thought he was 30!

Fair enough, it does seem that there was interest in Kulu earlier than I thought. Mea culpa. I guess Fabio tried Diaz and Traore first, and when it went sideways he pushed the button on Kulu. I'm excited to see what he brings to the team, he's a big strong lad.

Re Bentancur, it still feels to me like he came into the picture when convos were had about Kulu. But that often happens...you're discussing a player and all of a sudden there's a bonus opportunity landing on your lap. Whatever anyway, he's gonna be one of ours and he could be our new Mousa, so bring it on.

I'll still regret Diaz, though once Liverpool showed up, it was always gonna be tough to get him. I still believe (not know 😉) we moved a bit late for him, and some even say if we'd approached him earlier and offered more dosh, we could've had him. We'll just never know. I just hope he doesn't turn into a new Suarez or Coutinho for the Reds, cause my, they have enough firepower already the silly bastards!!!

COYS
Massive respect for this post ....

Good man - hardly anyone on here is willing to admit they got something wrong, as if it diminishes their credibility or status or something - on the contrary, I have much more respect, and give much more future credibility, to anyone on here who ever publicly changes an opinion or retracts something they've said etc than people who are unwilling to ever do so. I try to do the same myself. As I say, good man. 👍
Ah thanks, pal. Kind of you to say that.

I never proclaimed to be in the know or anything. And I sure don't think I never make mistakes...on here or in real life. I'm actually much more into self-bashing, which irritates the missus ha ha!

As far as Diaz is concerned, I formulated an opinion that we'd gone in for him a bit late. It seemed to me that was a fairly reasonable guess, say a half fact, based on the media reporting. But yeah maybe we went in for him way earlier. We'll never know the truth anyway, so no point having a full-blown argument with someone you don't even know about it 😂

Just musing over which of these recent signings (costing about £230m) has shown real value for us and which we still think will come good :

Ndombele - £60M
Lo Celso - £40M
Sessegnon - £30M
Reguilon - £27M
Bergwijn - £27M
Bryan Gil - £22.5M
Royal - £22.5M

Personally think there are decent players in Reguillon and Bergwijn which Conte may get playing consistently well in the 2nd half of the season, and maybe Royal too. Sessegnon seems to have recurring injuries which if he can't shake off will limit his usefulness, whilst Gil may well come good but I think it will take a year or more before we see it. Ndomble and Lo Celso seem to have no interest in playing for Spurs

So not a great return from spending £200m +, No wonder Levy's bald ! Wonder what Conte's real thoughts on Spurs squad are today.

It's impossible to say isn't it? Personally I totally ignore the one-off rumours, but pay more attention to the persistant ones from multiple sources over a sustained period of time. Take Traore for example - given all the talk for a month or so last summer, then pretty much all of this month, I'd find it very hard to believe we weren't interested. I can't prove that of course, but I guess I'm working on the basis not that there's no smoke without fire, but more "a lot of smoke over a sustained period would indicate that a fire is likely". Doesn't exactly trip off the tongue though I admit.

So my feelings on Traore are perhaps similar to yours on Diaz (who dippers have just announced btw :( ) - I can't help but feel if we'd managed to persuade Traore to sign in early Jan, then after 3 weeks of Conte explaining to him how he was gonna make him one of the greatest in the world, he'd have been happy that he didn't wait for Barca. It's all pure speculation of course, we'll never know, but that doesn't stop me wondering...
