Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The top two stats don't mean anything.
To you...but to those that are analytically-minded it further elucidates our reactive nature and why we are so fucking boring to watch. But it also shows why we never seem to have control of a match...amongst other things.
Passes into the final third we're rank 20th but are 3rd for scoring goals? Work that one out?
Pretty easy conundrum actually...
Best conversion rate?
...you answered your own question. See? Told you it was easy.
Is it really all bad?
Yes.

By the football being played would you even be able to tell a difference? And did you say similar for Jose the winner?
I don't want to get rid of Conte, but I have to agree he plays an updated version of Jose ball, and frankly its not very fun to watch. Seems to me that Conte is the type that has to have players that fit his system. I did like that Poch would change the system to fit the players - see the switch from the 4-2-3-1 to the dreaded 4-4-2 with the diamond.

Big Sam is available on a free, but in all seriousness nobody is wanting Conte sacked.
The club has had so many set backs this would put us back even further.
I think the issue is that some are concerned that he might not stick around because of his nature.
I think now seeing how the team are struggling the scale of the job has shown there is quite a way to go.
Changing manager would just set the process back, which we can't afford to allow.
Unwise for sacking ATM but serious considerations as to whether he warrants extension. And that takes into account "his nature", the shit football, and "the scale of the job [that] has shown there is quite a way to go". It's a simple calculus that any person in charge should be making.

We played good football last season, probably the best I’ve watched since prime Poch era.

Now it seems our front 3 don’t click the same anymore, which is understandable, and any manager would fucking struggle to get results or make his team play great football if his main attacking players fail to string two passes together.

Or maybe you want Conte to get on the field and aid Kane make a short pass or Son do a good first touch?

Hear, hear.

Footballing equivalent of paint-by-numbers...and as player-quality dependent as Jose or any other fraud.

Agree. To do otherwise is not the mind of an elite coach in my estimation, a coach that can take his and beat yours but also take yours and beat his.

Big part of the problem with the Diamond was that it didn't fit the players..... Winks couldn't handle the solo DM/DLP role and the front 3 trod on each others toes all the time. Needed better FBs too.

We were at our best when we would fluidly shift between 3421 & 4321 in games

Nah, I don't want Conte to get on the field and aid our attackers. But I would like him to figure out whose job it is to make it so. If only we could find the person making 15M that is responsible for that we'd be alright.

You think we would've got champions league with Allardyce or Jose in charge?
Did I say that? Or did I imply the football would be the same rancid shit? And we would have gotten it with Curbishley if all the teams in front of us choked as they did. We didn't 'win' CL it was handed to us on a plate by the same team that just made us pay for our insolence this past weekend.

That is a noticeable difference between Conte and Poch.

Poch is a philosophy driven coach. He'll change things regarding the formation as long as it allows him to play his philosophy of football. Conte is a system coach and he wants his system to work and is thus hesitant to make changes. And if he makes changes it is more likely to be rotating players rather than formation.

Why is it understandable?

I can understand some of the frustrations, some of the suggestions people are making just don't make sense though.

Why would he change either PEH or Benta for Skipp? Skipp hasn't played premier league football for 9 months. They have been the most consistent performers since then and are doing exactly what Conte is asking them to do. No manager would change them like that it's not logical.

Why? Well maybe because 3x90 minutes within 7 days is bit too much?
And tiredness from that kind of workload will start to impact sharpness?

Part that "Skipp hasn't played for 9 months" is pretty moot, ain't it? Before January Bentancur had not played EPL football... well... ever.

If your statement is true and they are doing everything that Conte wishes from his midfielders, then we are absolutely doomed and have no hopes of any success on any fronts. Our midfield + RWB are three positions easiest to upgrade. Unless you realistically would claim that Conte wants to use CM that never turns with the ball and changes the tempo. Or that Conte dreams of two midfielders who are afraid to keep possession in tight spaces and quickly pass the ball back to teammates, cause otherwise they would lose it.

I do not argue with the fact that PEH and Benta have been quite consistent. And obviously PEH + Bentancur duo helped us to reach CL last season, which is wonderful. But this is their absolute ceiling. They are consistent, but they have significant limitations. I can give you 100% guarantee we win 0 trophies out of following - CL, EPL, FA Cup, Carling Cup when 75+% of games we start with midfield duo of PEH+Bentancur * . In all of those competitions there are teams that can decide to drop down and let us have all the ball in the midfield and defend with low block. Then we have absolutely nothing to offer. Just short passing near center-circle and helpless looking around. West Ham exposed this quite easily.

* - that is - unless we sign Hakimi in January and Perisic even further ups his game - then it would be possible to substitute all of the creativity and ability to dictate tempo from creativity on the wings.

Levy handcuffed Poch those last few years. It was a travesty. I think Poch could get CL spots with this current team.
