Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I used to work for a man just like him, when I was in Oz. To this day, I still think of him as the best mentor I ever had. He had a way of talking to you that had you constantly reexamining yourself in an effort to improve. He'd rarely offer advice, he'd wait for you to ask it if him, but he'd always preface it with a question, "what do you think?" If your answer was wrong, you'd get "the look." That look was more soul destroying than any 100 decibel bollicking I ever received, and I got a few of them growing up.

If Postecoglou is like Bruce (yes, an Aussie called Bruce! Who knew?), then he's loved by his players because they recognise a manager who will make them better versions of themselves.

THAT is the measure of a true manager.

Ten months later.

‘It is understood that certain players have reservations over Postecoglou’s training sessions.’

That's all very nice but I always take this kind of fluff with a big pinch of salt

About the press conference, so Ange had utter contempt for the Scottish hacks but he's such an intelligent guy that he just didn't give them an inch. I'm guessing the English press will be just as unfriendly and attempt to trip him up or corner him. Ange just usually steps over these guys. He is an excellent communicator and a very sharp guy.

Regarding the under 21s at Celtic, his first season he mostly just let them get on with it.

The second season he sent one of the coaches he'd worked closely with the previous season, Stephen McManus, to run the under 21s and instill his philosophies. This was to more closely align the playing styles and training methods/intensity, so that if a player was called up to the first team, they were already used to those things, therefore hopefully easing the transition. May do something similar here.

*edit* ... assuming he makes it to next season

Isn't this the way that Ajax set up their teams? To me, it's so obvious that this would be a common sense approach on how to run a football club. Is it just too simple ?

It shouldn't be, but so few follow that example, you do have to wonder.

It's exactly how he set up Roar in Oz. As soon as he landed, the club brought in Dutch coaches, they set up an itinerary that aligned from first team to youth, emphasis on improving technical skills and keeping the whole process fresh and interesting.

I was coaching the nippers at the time, when we were given the itinerary. We spent a season coaching it into the kids, then took them to an interstate Football tournament. My kids were U10's, as I couldn't coach at a higher age group without badges, but I had a crop of smart, athletic kids, mixed, who absolutely loved the change and thrived under it.

We ended up playing against an U15 team and absolutely whacked them by 7! The kids weren't told they were older, just to go out, play the way we'd been teaching them, and have fun. They couldn't understand why they got applauded off the pitch until we told them they'd just annihilated a team with players up to 7 years older than them.

We should all know by now what he did with Roar, he essentially revolutionised Australian Football with them.

I pray he's successful. If he's successful he'll stay. If he stays he will revolutionise the way Spurs are run as a Football Club.

I would fully expect to see an upswing in our Academy, with more products coming from there that will slot into the squad, or be ready for loan moves sooner than they currently are.

I rate him this highly, and have for near 15 years. I honestly think he'll do for us what Wenger did for the filth.
