It's multiple factors, including poor decision making by ENIC.
But what not enough people will say is it's the wage bracket of our signings that is almost certainly what is holding us back, if not actually sending us backwards. And I strongly believe this is because a fee isn't as much of a liability as wages are.

Are Arse in the wrong wage bracket too?

Wages p/a:

22/23 - Arse 103.5m / THFC 110.4m
21/22 - Arse 93.9m / THFC 89.7m
20/21 - Arse 128.7m / THFC 129.1m
19/20 - Arse 115.4m / THFC 93.1m

Arse = Total 441.5m
THFC = Total 422.3m

You were literally just complaining about people making stuff up:

It's like arguing with a flat earther or antivaxer. They just make shit up to keep arguing despite all the evidence.

:ange-arms:

You can theoretically sell a player and write off their remaining wages.

Or get stuck with them cos they're over-paid.....

Ndombele, GLC, Aurier, Lamela (according to his critics)...... (All signs point to zero trf fee recouped too)

Or for a little Man U flavour: De Gea, Sancho, Martial, Maguire......

Absolute rubbish....The worst player abuse on here is typified by the likes ArcspacE ArcspacE , Carl Johnson Carl Johnson Zomb ...... Vociferous anti-ENIC types.
Anti Levy. I have no problem with ENIC’s strategy, just the complete incompetence of the bald fraud acting as the most uninspirational and trustworthy CEO imaginable.

Very true.

We clearly need to step up our appetite for big signings in all positions. It doesn't mean we shouldn't look for value in the players we sign either as no matter what some may try to make us believe, every single club does it. But that shouldn't be our go-to option.

People seem to look at how Woolwich did last year and laud how they managed to be in that position. It wasn't from spending huge on every position.

Their best players cost pretty average if not small sums of money in today's market.

Martinelli - 6 mil
Odergaard - 30 mil (or there about)
Saliba - 25 mil

If we have spent that on those players, some people on here would be making out like we are bargain hunters and have no ambition, yet they were clearly smart purchases.

My issue with our spending has not been about how much but more what we have spent it on.
That's really all that us "regime enthusiasts" having been saying from day 1. Personally I've stated on a number of occasions that we should be shopping for the right player. Whether they cost a little or a lot should make no difference if it is within our means.

I still think that will be around the £200M mark, which we'll be close to if we get both Tapsoba and VDV, and add another in there for whatever position is deemed to be next in the priority list.

If the club don't address these areas, and I'm not buying this "he's too expensive" schtick for Tapsoba, then they will have failed, pure and simple. If the club have identified Tapsoba as a player who will be elite, then come to an agreement. If they want £10M more for him than our evaluation, but he's worth £20M to us from us getting higher up the table or getting CL, then missing out on him would be utter stupidity.

If they fail us in a rebuild where we're not shopping at the very highest level, then I will be calling for heads to roll as well, with one in particular being top of that list.

I would say wages are also a bigger liability because they can limit the amount of transfer options. Since most players don’t take wage cuts to transfer clubs.

If it’s one thing that has actually helped us as a club, it’s our wage structure. Because the teams that have suffered major financial problems like Everton, Leicester and even United (though I’d call it more of a limitation) were trying to draw in players by paying large wages and every single player that didn’t work out was stuck at the club as they couldn’t be moved on.

We tried that with tanguy and got burned. Luckily I think we’ve learned that lesson.

Abso fuckin lutely

But my overriding read on the pattern our transfer windows follow is that they will deem Tapsoba to be too expansive and we will be left short at the back.

I’d love to be wrong

You just need to be clever with which journalists/sources you listen to.
Once you decipher the journalists with genuine insider knowledge from the hacks, it becomes easier to piece together what is likely a close version to the truth…
You sound clever, i envy you Sir!

We've been averaging 100m per window since 19/20.......Assuming we shift a few more; I see no reason why we can't and won't splash another 70/80m on a couple of CBs.

Not at all. I will put you on ignore now to stop your hysterical paranoid worries about me stalking you. On ignore you go. A favour from me to you, to put your mind at ease. No need to thank me. I won’t see it anyway.
Now carry on your wild rants of how money has nothing to do with Chelsea & city’s success :angryscouser:
Still seeking attention. "Look at me! Look at me! I'm putting Get in! Get in! on ignore. Look at me!"

Just hit the ignore button and be done with it. Why you have to trumpet it to everyone is beyond me.

Sanchez has also attracted the attention of Flamengo (Globo), while Turkish giants Galatasaray are believed to have offered €9m (£7.7m) for the Spurs man (Sporx).
Lolz, let's ignore wars and international sanctions.
