Player Alejo Veliz

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I assume as he’s only 19 we could potentially see him get some minutes with the U21s to help with match fitness and integration?

Brighton signed Facundo Buonanotte from Rosario Central, the same club Veliz played for, in the January 2023 window.

Buonanotte is a year younger, and played 13 times for Brighton last season, scoring once (a/c to wiki).

Two observations.

Brighton's model is based on giving young players first team action almost immediately, trusting their recruitment network, & speeding up their development.

Secondly, it's probably easier to ease an attacking midfielder who can play wide & central into a team than a CF who has to be able to score goals on a regular basis almost immediately.

I'm content for Ange & our coaches to help Veliz adapt in training,. Brighton's fans probably have a lot more patience than ours, and we need to give Veliz the best possible chance to be effective in our tactical setup.
Our fans are pathetic at giving players time.

Modric, Bale Kane and many others were all written of because they we not immediately successful. In Kane's case, because he didn't do so well at Norwich.

Ange has watched Scarlett & Veliz in training, and last he commented Scarlett was closer to first team minutes than Veliz.

Which is largely understandable. Scarlett has been learning Ange's system since pre-season began and is a very good finisher. Veliz is adapting to a new culture and a new league.

I have high hopes for Veliz, but if our head coach thinks Scarlett is closer right now, that's good enough for me.

Scarlet seems to have put on a lot of muscle since last season (probably partly age related as he's growing a man's physique and maybe extra gym work), and I suspect that plus gaining confidence from a well placed goal against Shakhtar means that he should catch Ange eye.

Shame he was out injured at start of pre-season, otherwise I think he might have played more.

Nonetheless, I'd be surprised if Scarlett gets more than a few minutes off the bench - although if he gets more that would be great news suggesting he could be part of the squad for 24/5 which would be helpful as he would be a rare 'Club trained player'

Be good for both Veliz and Scarlett to have a friendly rivalry for playing time...... and goalscoring

Definitely want to see one of them on the bench, only thing missing from the previous 2 games

I suspect the lack of a specialist CF on the bench was driven by wanting to keep more senior squad players happy early in the season.

3 x defenders to cover both FB positions, & CB. Emerson, Davinson & Davies cover all eventualities.

3 x CMs because he wants to keep PEH, GLC & Skipp feeling part of the squad.

That only leaves space for 2 attacking subs, and with Sonny seemingly first alternative CF for Richarlison, I understand why Ange went with veteran Perisic & new signing Solomon.

Also, he's clearly trying to build up Richarlison's confidence, making him feel like he's the Main Man, even if he hasn't shown it so far.

Apertura and Clausura were in place from the 1990s until 2014.
The "league" is in the first part of the year, and the "Copa de la Liga Profesional" is the second part of the year now.

So sort of like Apertura and Clausura, but distinctly formatted competitions. And the "league" is more games.

They change the competition structure in Latin America way, way too often. A bad habit MLS seems to have picked up.

The Copa de la Liga Professional is a cup competition in the same way that the Champions League is a cup competition. It's a COVID-era contingency.

Brazil's set-up is fun... with State championships/leagues one-half of the year.
