Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Bollocks - Conte was a selfish whiny has-been cunt who wanted us to play a horrific style of football that should shame a club of our footballing-style heritage, blamed every single person at the club but himself when things went wrong, then ran away having set fire to the place when the going got really tough. If he gave Daniel a few home truths and that had some kind of positive impact then great, but let's not dress up any of the rest of it. Absolute fraud of a man.

Regarding Loïc Badé: he was on loan at Not. Forest in 2022–2023 season. And he did not play a single game even though he was not injured, and was sent back to Sevilla during the January TW....

Here Badé's explanation of why he never got a single game:

Unused at Notts Forest in 2022/23 and sent back without exercising the 12m release fee.

But now apparently available for 50m from a Seville side struggling at wrong end of he table.

My instincts are to swerve at that price - come the end of the season I suspect we could find better with a more consistent track record at a cheaper price (eg he's a lot more expensive than Van de Ven who had a longer track record, and we now know is a top CB).

Not to mention most players seemed to play worse after his honeymoon first 6 months - most have got back to being far better players under Ange, so their downturn is totally on Conte

Conte should have been binned the moment he said this

Can you belive the club were almost duped into giving Eric a new contract because of this lmao

It’s always smarter to delay payments. Inflation means the money paid tomorrow is devalued, and it also allows you to invest the principle today to further reduce the future liability.

This is why transfer negotiations are 100X more complex than most football supporters think. It ain’t just haggling over 5M pounds.
West Ham have borrowed 30m off a bank so they get some of the Rice money earlier. It’s a common practice apparently.
everybody pays transfers over years. It used to be half down and the other half in 12 months.
Our problem is paying big fees for players who hardly play for us and are just loaned out because no one will buy them.

Son won the Golden boot under Conte, the only time he’s ever won it. I was never a Conte fan but you can’t just put all the blame onto Conte,
Absolutely. The excitement, euphoria and wild expectation levels on here when we appointed him were off the scale and unprecedented.

He also managed to drag that massively under invested mess of a squad into the champions league at the expense of our biggest rivals 😆

Just a few wise, level headed posters like myself correctly predicted how it would all ultimately end in failure, just as it had with his predecessors 😥

Dragusin

Against my usual instincts, I don't think Hercules is wrong.

IMO both Dragusin (and Werner) will be announced early next week - chances of today were always near zero with Modric the only player I can think of announced on a Sunday in recent(ish) times

Worth saying that Ben Davies and Emerson Royal have had a good run in the last 4 or 5 games as our CB's - probably looked as good as the majority of other CB's in PL. Rodrigo Bentancur's return playing as DM has also given our CB's a lot more cover, and must give the whole team a bit more confidence.

Good to hear that Van de Ven was training with first team for 3 days or so last week and has another week to go - I think he might have had one training session at Spurs before his debut - so it looks as if he's going to be back.

So whilst in late December I was thinking it was imperative to get a CB in early I'm a lot more relaxed now with Van de Ven back to pair with Dragusin, knowing that Royal is also available on the bench as a now experienced CB back up.

Sort of surprised we haven’t been linked more with Kalvin Phillips. Not that I’m saying we should sign him.

I guess he would want guaranteed game time after his experience at Man City anyway.

Even you must be laughing to yourself if you expect anyone to swallow that !

Bade was linked by 1 random French journalist.

It’s been discussed by everyone in this chat far far too much. Me included.

So you truly believe Werner is currently better than Richie.

Stop Bullshitting.

Do you think if they offered Ange, Werner or Toney, he'd choose Werner? It's not that we can't afford a 50 million STR, so why are you OK with someone who is a gamble?

This is classic Levy. We bought Gil because he was the next Lionel Messi.
Richie because he was the next Mo Salah,
Ndombele because he was the next Dembele,
Lo Celso because he was cheaper than Fernandes but equally good.
Djed Spence because he was the next England RB.

Wake Up stop being a puppet. We are getting a second rated player.
Ivan Tony isn't a top Tier striker he's on a good career trajectory and a decent/good player.

He had 13 non penalty goals last season.
And 7non penalty goals the season before.
Before that he was in the football league.

He isn't the 20+ goal striker that every media outlet suggests he is.
