He had long periods when he was a good player and didn’t make mistakes.
His form fell off after his Appendix removal (well slightly before, which was likely symptomatic of the issue brewing), back then I posted a paper which showed how recovery times are significantly longer in athletes post this procedure (think it was an extra days R&R needed on average, but couldn’t find the paper again recently when thinking about this).
After becoming aware of this data, I aligned it to his performances, as he soo often seemed to play very well Saturday (say) and then Wednesday would be soo far off it. So it appeared he became very solid in a once a week schedule, but, twice weekly was beyond his bodies capability to adequately recover.
His non-alignment to Anges need for high line and quick turn and sprint recovery CB’s is no fault of his, he was in the England squad less than 2years ago (early under Conte, where the 3 covered his mobility/agility limitations).
