People really need to get “the first ten games” out of their heads for players and the team generally. We were an unknown quantity. Then other teams hadn’t done their homework and figured out how we play. Then we had the element of surprise on everybody and that’s never gonna happen again.

It’s either going to be games like today or games against other teams that play like we do - Brighton, Liverpoool, Woolwich, City etc where the games will be more open but we’ll have less control.

We don’t need our 6 to be a Rodri/Pirlo hybrid. Just do the job of helping us transition to the other more creatives and be defensively sound. Bussoums’s ideal for that remit. His defensive metrics are outstanding his carrying (pressure resistance) is good and his passing put of pressure is reliable.

We need to improve the 8’s (or the right one first) and we definitely need a massive quality upgrade in the attacking positions. Even Son isn’t ideal for this system.

Mostly I agree with you. Generally teams know better how to play against our style much better. That is undenayable.

But partly you are mixing the cause and outcome here. With that I mean - there have been, are and will be moments, when despite opposition being prepared, Bissouma will be in situations where he can take more difficult option, execute it well and then open up more room for us. And with more room, even after being prepared, opposition teams will struggle more.

On the positive note, there was a moment in first half, when Bissouma did just that. We were under pressure and ball hadn't still hit the ground. And he passed it with one touch before it did drop to the ground to middle-circle to Spurs player with more room who passed it to the RW and our break was on.

So overall - yes, teams are better prepared. But there are still moments where high-confidence Bissouma could create more room for our players to attack opposition that is less-organized ;) .

His performance yesterday went very much under the radar. As the 6/single pivot that allows the likes of Maddison and Sarr to play more attacking roles, he invariably won’t get much glory, but quietly nearly everything we did went through him yesterday.

Nobody on the pitch saw more of the ball (108 touches) and nobody got anywhere near the amount of passes he made 96 @97%. (Maddison 65, Sarr 36)

He also covered Villa’s counters very well, and nobody made more tackles for us.

Others will get the glory yesterday for moments of brilliance, but he was very much the glue that joined it all together.

Yes! Bar one misplaced pass in a dangerous area in the first half he was flawless.

Agree, perfectly timed tackles all game. Interceptions and kept the ball cycling.

Would love to see him carry the ball a couple times a game but he’s back on form imo.

Me too....... I just wonder if a 'ball moves quicker than man' philosophy coming from Ange may be detering that for much of the time.

Def. a well rounded performance yday tho'...... One of his best this season; just a little more low-key than some of the gang-busters shit from the begining of the season.

Two good games for Biss now, hopefully he keeps it up. He's not as showreel as he was at start of season because teams are not pressing him aggressively, denying him his best ability. Issue when this happens can be his passing range when unpressured, but he's showing some good switches of play. Will prob be pressed more aggressively vs Woolwich, Pool, City, interesting to see how he plays in those games.

He’s good. Downturn and disruptions in the season for sure but he’s never been a problem or close to it other than when suspended.

Always part of our first choice midfield when fit imo, never rated Bentancur above him.
