Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I must have missed that?
You didn't actually read my post, did you, Dudu.
I can see Ange feeling like he was in an invidious position.

But find it concerning that it was the thought of what would be thought of him, if we got hammered, that kicked him into being hyper-motivated - and clearly charged the players up as such - to play as ferociously as we did, with a significant tactical upgrade implemented.

Also:

"It could have gone a very different way [City battering us] - without anything changing from us - just by man city being man city."

Ok, so you already had a built-in feasible reason for any level of loss, Ange.

No anxiety needed. Should have leant on that.

It was an inescapable potential outcome in playing city - in the form they had been in and the amount of goals they were scoring - regardless.

He said this before the game:

"I think the last 48 hours have revealed the foundations are fairly fragile - outside the club, inside the club, everywhere.."

He's now converted that into: "I couldn't sit there and be disingenuous and say our foundations were strong, because we'd lost 5 out of 6 games"

And he finessed that as being the players' fault, due to lack of discipline (nothing to do with set pieces, Ange?) :D

I mean, have I got that wrong?? lol

Anyway, presser could have been much worse.

So, thankful for that.

Didn't know what to expect.

He was calm and considered and held a good tone (important to laugh at the VAR stuff to lighten things).

As far as I'm concerned, I want to see the same level of managerial performance put through the players in that city game, as the baseline for us moving forward.

SU need to get mercilessly battered.

And that's what I expect.

Dear god, I never thought I'd be looking forward to only being in the summer transfer thread soon, but here we are.

So you don't think we're conceding too many goals or that our defence of set pieces is woeful?
We play inverted fullbacks, and a very high line. Teams then attack down our wings and the central defenders have to spread themselves wide to cover the fullbacks That weakens us imho. As regards corners it’s simple we need a set piece coach to improve us both attack wise and defence wise.

lol I'm reading through some of the posts and some of you are still trying to pick his words apart, Good Lord you people want chaos all times don't you, I guess they don't appease your agenda or something...:ange-blow:

I am definitely in the minority. I find press conferences boring, vague, waffling, inconsistent, and have to turn them off half way through. All of the managers that come to THFC care more about their own reputations than the club. It's the same whether it is Mourinho or Ange. They aren't actually bigger than the club, and most of them can do the same job in terms of finishing in the Europa League places regardless of style.

I'd rather just judge him on results at the end of every season, if Levy allows me to, because I can't put up with one moment saying he is here to win something, and the next moment saying he is worrying he is going to be beat 4 or 5 by City at home. If you are genuinely worrying about that then you really can't win anything like AVB, so it is pointless deluding everybody. There is such a gap between where we are and the success he wants that it is genuinely hurtful to talk about it, I mean talking about it as if he has it already and the club doesn't.
So you got all of that after turning off halfway through?

I guess you just 'filled in the blanks' with what you think he must have said.

Pls email this to Ange:

"
Jamie Carragher: "I grew up in a city with a similar rivalry and if the shoe was on the other foot, I think Woolwich fans would be exactly the same. So I’ve got absolutely no problem with any Tottenham supporter not wanting to win this game."
"Woolwich have won the league twice at Tottenham. They won it in 1971 and 2004. If Tottenham win here tonight, Woolwich have won the league again at Tottenham's ground, they just have."
🤔

"

Yeah I don't think he needs it now mate.

If going from 8th to 5th, being 6 points better off than last season
If we hold Postecoglou to high standards, why are you comparing him to last season? It was one the worst seasons we’ve had in the last decade, so the bar is fucking low. Not so impressive that wE’vE gOnE fRoM 8Th To 5Th.

Compare him with Conte’s first season or to Poch’s first season.
despite losing a 30-goal-a-season striker—the best we've ever had
Yeah, uhh there were times during Poch when fans said we played better/more fluid when Kane was out injured.

But fairs, it’s difficult to replace a striker of this quality. If only we had strengthened the striker depth.
trying to implement an entirely new philosophy and starting XI
Yeah that’s not an excuse. Most managers go through that cycle.
is somehow considered regression?
In the end, the fresher memories stick, so considering how we played in the last few months, you could see that we played like shit and the results have not been as good, so it can be thought as regressing…?

You didn't actually read my post, did you, Dudu.

I did, I read your interpretation about what he said.

I still think he didn't want his, the players, the clubs integrity and proffesionalism being called into question.

We all were fucking pissed at how players and managers were acting when playing us in the Leciester season. It fucking stunk.

Either way we have to move on now and he needs to get us purring next season or else it's going to be another fucked up year

You can ignore what he said if you want, mate.

I don't care.

I don't usually bother with pressers but was quite impressed with Ange here. He held his hands up and said he was mistaken to misunderstand the feeling of so many fans, and would've done things differently if he could. He said the fans are the custodians of the club and he's just managing, something some of us have been thinking I'm sure. It does make you wonder what kind of bubble these players and managers are in now though, if he could go into such a game and be genuinely unaware of the depth of feeling about it here.
