Player Timo Werner

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

IMHO Moore for all his talent will have to be handled carefully and introduced gradually purely because of his age.

Olise will be likely be going for £75m+ as he’s sure to be this window’s hot property and they’ll be plenty of suitors for him that we’ll be up against.
We won't get anywhere near him under Enic

Some utterly joyless cunts on here.

A majority of the academy lads won't ever be ready for the premier league tbh, to just be throwing them in hoping they'll perform is negligence.
Where as 8.5 wages on Werner is sound fiscal planning.

Some will be disappointed with this but I think it's a smart move. Timo has already shown he can contribute, but that he's probably a bit short of what we want long term. Another twelve months while Mikey develops, and Sonny maybe starts to slow down, and new signings adapt to Angeball, is smart business. There's no downside risk of getting stuck with a lemon, and plenty of upside if he finds some meaningful growth.

We were always going to sign him, he's cheap, he's experienced and he's lively. Yes his finishing is cack but he is a good chaos-causer a la Darwin Nunez. He also seems to really want to be here, which is very important.

Perfectly acceptable replacement for Solomon and I'm sure Ange is happy to have him.

Left the comments on.

I wonder if they think fans are on board with them signing players for economical reasons over football reasons.

This player was signed for both economical and football reasons. Which is perfectly fine. He did a good job for us last season and will be a good player to have in our squad for Thursday nights.

He did a good job in relation to what?

Did he do a good job for a team that aims to be in a title race? A team that aims to win trophies?

I'd say he did a good job for a midtable club. Same as Solomon did a good job for Fulham, also a midtable club. And as you put it, we have signed a player to do a midtable level job so we can replace a player capable of doing a midtable level job. Tbh I'm not convinced Solomon isn't closer to what we need with his dribbling ability.

For me, we are a club in no-mans land pretending to be a big club. If we really want to go up a level, we need to make every signing one that raises our ceiling. If they push established players here to the bench then good.

He did a good job in disturbing opponents and creating chances. We already have one of the best LWs in the world in the starting XI, we were never going to spend huge money on his understudy when we have gaping holes in other positions. No club in the world operates like that except for City who are a team of cheats playing with oil money.

If we make a Werner-level signing as our marquee transfer in the centre forward position, then you have a right to complain. Makes no sense to cry about signing a cheap, experienced player for our squad in a position where we have an obvious need for depth.

Who said we needed to spend huge money. And why would we sign an understudy? Big clubs don't do that. We should be signing a player that can take Son's spot.

This is about the quality of player more than the cost

What level did he do a good job of disturbing opponents and creating chances. Did he do that to the level of a title-winning team?

It sounds a lot when it’s classed as wages, but most loan signings carry a few mil as a loan fee.

Done as wages it’s spread over the season rather than a loan fee up front.

His finishing has been painful but he’s chipped in with useful assists as well as creating key chances that weren’t, but should have been converted.

As our marquee signing it’s not acceptable, but as squad depth it is.

It’s a poor use of resources when you can put an academy player on a fraction of Werner’s wages on the bench instead.

.........And then if it turns out (eg) Moore needs more time to develop before becoming a full-time senior then you're a man short with a fuck tonne of EL and traveling to do with only Sonny carrying the load.

Strategically that's when a loan (rather than blocking the way with a senior purchase) starts to make some sense.... If one's concern is path-way, that is. If Mikey cuts the mustard then the loanee is gone at the end of the season.

Should that loanee be Werner? .......See above for a multitude of individual opinions on that question.
