How Dry should our Powder be?

Rubbish. Fcuking agendas. How many players has any club bought as yet FFS?

I don't include scum club Chelsea.
United have spent about £100m and actively trying to spend more.
Villa have been busy.
Chelsea have been busy.
I doubt it'll be long before Woolwich kick into gear.
City don't currently need much but will still bring players in.
We can't afford to watch everyone around us get better and do little ourselves.

Assuming the mystery 3 players are being delayed due to them making it to the finals / semifinals of either the Euros or Copa final 4, who are they likely to be?

Netherlands:
Xavi Simons

France:
?

England:
Bowen
Eze
Gallagher
Toney

Spain:
Olmo
Williams

Canada:
David

Uruguay:
?

Colombia:

Argentina:

Chiesa's best goalscoring tally in all comps is 14.

I don't think we should base a players goalscoring tally on previous clubs and their style though. It always tough.

As an example, Salah never managed any more than 19 goals in all comps before joining Liverpool, which he managed just once.

Goes to Liverpool, completely different coach, different set up and surroundings and his goalscoring seasons go up a level:

44
27
23
31
31
30
25

People want Neto yet he's never even managed more than 5 league goals in a season...

What we need to do is prioritise profile over output at other clubs. The right profile in this system could quite easily pop off.

Using a world class player as an example distorts things a bit.

Our recent attacking signings suggest we can expect a similar number of goals if not lower than what they did at their previous clubs..

Johnson: 10 goals at Forest, 5 for Spurs
Maddison: 10 for Leicester, 4 for Spurs
Werner: 2 for Leipzig and Spurs over each half of the season, 14 games for each club.
Richarlison: 11 Everton goals, 12 for Spurs (ignoring an entire duff 1 goal season)

Fuck - who was the last attacking player we bough that actually improved on their previous clubs goalscoring output?

Chiesa scored 10 last season so my money would be on him getting about 6 for Spurs.
Neto would no doubt end up having a season like Solomon if he joined us.

Our next attacking signing really needs to be a banger given what we have been served up with Richarlison, Solomon, Werner, Gil, Danjuma, Vinicius, Clarke, Bergwijn, Janssen... probably 200.. 300 million or more there in transfers, agents and wages.

What if the delays are just because selling clubs are looking to get a replacement in before it's made obvious they'll be getting more money?

I think your list is probably spot on in terms of the targets we've seen though. Portugal and Neto too, I imagine.

Salah was anything but world class before signing for Liverpool though...

Klopp didn't even want him.

No one can read into the future so signing players off the back of what they've done elsewhere in different systems is pointless.

Soldado was one of the greatest finishers in European football before we signed him.

We should be looking at profile. Not what their output is at other clubs. Which is why I imagine we're linked with Neto. Quite literally the perfect Ange winger. He would be ridiculously good in this set up, the issue is his fitness and the price tag quoted. His output for a counter attacking Wolves team should be the last thing anyone looks at.

And the same with Chiesa. When it comes down to it and you look at Chiesa. You ask yourself does this guy fit what Ange wants from his wingers, can he beat a man 1 v 1, is he direct... He ticks every box, again though the concern with Chiesa is the fitness problems, but at least his price tag is realistic.

Oh man, how i would like to get my hands on that transfer list!

Do we have any burglars on this forum??

Salah was clearly a top level potential player that everyone could see (including Spurs links I believe) from his time at Basel. Maybe the rate of his rise was surprising but his level increasing shouldn't have been a shock to anyone - always a very talented footballer.

Neto has spent the last 3 seasons injured more often than not. That's a terrible profile for Spurs with our injuries history with a manager that demands so much from his players physically.

We absolutely should be signing an attacker with a track record of scoring goals at other clubs even if Soldado didn't work out 10 years ago. 18-21 year olds of course you can't expect that and would be hoping for a Salah type of rise, but we need a regularly fit, consistent, senior 15+ a season goalscorer.

I'm not saying Neto & Chiesa would be poor aquisitions regardless of transfer fees, but an experienced goal scorer ready to replace Son needs to be brought in this season.

First day of the month.
Donnie Brasco.

When Lefty (Al Pacino) invites Donnie (Johnny Depp) over for Xmas dinner and he makes him coq au vin. He says a punch of salt, gets corrected by Donnie who says it's pinch, Lefty stands his ground and tells the kid he makes no fucking sense. Then pretty much sets fire to his own kitchen when flambee-ing the meat. Great movie, great scene.

Salah was 25 when he signed for Liverpool, having flopped hard in the league once before and wasn't even wanted by the manager....

Of course him rocking up, breaking the Premier League goalscoring record in his first season back and 44 in all comps was a shock.

He was the perfect fit for what Liverpool were building towards. Even if no one, even Klopp, saw it. He wouldn't have managed that anywhere else.

Injury issues aren't a form of profile. Neto, the footballer, is the perfect profile. But spending anything more than 30 odd million on him would be ridiculously stupid considering his injury problems. Even if they were freak injuries that will 99% likely not to happen again.

We'll sign who we sign and I trust the club to make the right signing and the right profile fit. They've not got much wrong over the last three years.

Clubs must have serious doubts about Toney. Normally a striker like that would have been snapped up.
Ange wants good characters so may be Toney isn’t one.
No need for that maybe. You're being way too kind on the lad. He bet against his own team. They pay and support him while he's suspended, then he goes do interviews where he clearly states he wants to move on asap. Only reason Brentford didn't kick up a fuss is cause they couldn't have him refuse to train and play, would've affected their results and his value. So they swallowed it. But the guy is clearly a cunt.
