Manager Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Fucking hell you guys are quick to turn on a manager. After the Newcastle game there was a thread where most were in agreement that the performances merited more than what we have got in the first 3 games.

Was today really that bad? Yes we were toothless in attack again and had another lapse in concentration to concede a set piece goal but it was a very tight game. Some people are turning on Solanke too after just two games and having not played for a month.
I don't think there's anything "quick" about it. Since November 1 2023 we've averaged 1.37 ppg.

I'm not done with Ange yet. His recent form point total and league finish last season are similar to Poch's 1st season, and Poch's 2nd season got off to a bit of a rocky start too.

But he's definitely approaching the end of the runway and needs to take off soon.

I'm not sure that's true.

But I am aware that it takes faith to believe in anything, and that might mean the believers are deluded (define faith without proof), but we won't know until we wait. Or not. Then we'll never know.

I like Ange. I don't mind if he's given time.

But if we don't beat Coventry, I say we lynch him.

I’d give him the season. I’m rarely a fan of switching managers mid season unless someone awesome was available or the club really believe sacking could lead to us doing something special.

A lot of sackings are very obvious ‘shit, fans are panicking, press panic button’ type moves. I don’t want that. Keep Ange and evaluate next summer.

The thing is, we’ve signed a lot of players who apparently suit him. So it’s more than ever the case we might have to just throw our lot behind the bloke.

I do think he’s tactically really fucking limited though. No doubt he’s liked and respected by the players but he has zero flexibility whatsoever and it is continually failing against cannier, quality teams.

Kulusevski first half? They also didn't really create much apart from set pieces and that one break that Martinelli fucked up. I think Biss was a big miss for us and he is pretty essential to how we play now.
When Biss doesn't play, he's missed. When Biss plays and Bentancur doesn't, he's missed. When both play at the expense of Sarr, then Sarr's the big miss.

Stop blaming the loss on someone who wasn't playing.

We were just collectively clueless on how to break the line and be creative in the last 3rd, regardless who was playing in midfield. It's been like that so far this season, apart from rock bottom Everton.

I don't know what the right move from the club is.. But what I am pretty sure of, is that the idea of giving something the whole season come what may, just is not possible in practice.. If these results maintain (and lets be honest it's more likely that they get worse than get better), then we know how that stadium can get. Boos ring out at full time and even half time unless we're winning. So, you're probably right that pressing the panic button because of the fans reaction isn't the most sensible thought process.. But they also can't let a toxic stadium fester for a full season without being seen to do something.. Empty stadiums helped Woolwich hold their nerve over Arteta....

This post has made me do something no one, AFAIK, has done before: reconsider their position based on someone else's opinion on the internet.

You're not wrong. Fergie was given time (a lot). Klopp was given time. Consistency and commitment is vital. Belief is contagious. I like Ange, the players like him, they were clearly trying, but something was missing.

I'm back to thinking it will come.

Pat yourself on the back. You've earned it.

You never really know if you believe something if it's always easy and never tested. If you want others to believe in you, that belief needs to be held strong when things aren't easy.

Fans don't need to believe as much as the players and they never will tbh. Most of them will just change their views based on short term results. Players will believe in you if what you believe makes sense to them and they feel like they can trust you not to throw them under the bus if what you believe doesn't work at any point.

Conte and Jose consistently manage to get fans and players to believe in them and then repeatedly throw the players and often the club under the bus when anything gets difficult. The difference with Ange is that he will take responsibility as long as the players are doing what he believes.

Which is also why you will get posts like this from fans:

This is a completely reasonable take and if he was throwing players under the bus I would guess he'd get less patience like this.

I don't even blame the less patient ones who are calling for his head now. This club needs that type of pressure for results. Just wish it was always directed at the owners.

You're quit mad aren't you. It's okay...I just hadn't noticed it until now.

The press conference after another loss feels like it's on a loop.

The cliched buzz words, conviction and work in progress are almost becoming comical.

He's a charismatic manager, and I love an attacking style of play in principle.

But he needs to adjust to his squad. Inverted full backs can work well and they were brilliant early last season with the surprise element... but it's been figured out and doesn't suit out players.

Porro and Udogie would both be better as wide full backs. Son and Kulusevski would both benefit from playing as narrow WFs- Son so he can shoot more, and Kulu so he can play in a creative role.

I think some small adjustments to our tactics can mitigate that. Do we really need both FBs to push high and invert, leaving our CBs with no passing options? Can we not drop our defensive line back 10 yards and give Son just a bit more space to run into? All managers are stubborn but the best ones also make adjustments when required. It’s clear our players can’t execute the current tactics the way Ange wants.
the inverted FB's just cause the middle to be congested anyway and they are not cute enough on the ball to be congesting that area.

on the overlap they talked about united v barca in the CL final and how it was the first time the world really saw pep change the game. he had his keeper passing backwards from goalkicks to CB and then playing from there. the reason for this was to create even more space for iniesta, xavi, busquets and messi. this wally is congesting the likes of maddison with fullbacks who arent even suited to be inside hahahah.

''It is what it is'' line from Ange was revealing. The stubbornness and accepting in defeat to our hated rival as what we have to accept for 'the bigger picture'.
Big week ahead, let's see if anyone is learning anything apart from the opposing gaffers.

His body language on the sidelines really isn't good imo. When he first joined there were videos of him going batshit and even at times during his first season he was on the sideline. Now it seems he's almost given up, hanging his head all the time, no instructions from him. Just standing there like a melon.
