Good post. Why do people think we should get top 4 . Others outspend us massively on transfers , even more so on salaries . We will have the occasional positive blip , when generational talents like Kane , Bale , Modric come along . We may occasionally fluke a manager who out performs Levynomics , but it will be rare . Facts are facts the clubs with the biggest budgets will be far more consistently in the top 4 . Five clubs do that United being the current under performer . If Newcastle find wriggle room at some point it will be six . Now add in an injury crisis and a very long suspension and Ange is doing fine in my book . Arteta who I loathe had Woolwich massively underperforming, not only did they stick with him they mega backed him . Cancelling contracts of very highly paid players to change the dynamic , we eventually did it with NDombele when we could not shift him and had no choice . They then massively backed him with the finished article on big wages , not teenage punts . That is what it took to turn Woolwich around , ( i say through gritted teeth ),we don’t have the ambition to compete .
We all look at our teams through a jewellers eyepiece and can be fooled by this at times. Objectively, we are on a par with Villa or Newcastle in terms of quality and depth I’d say.
Liverpool, City, Woolwich and Chelsea are light years ahead of us in terms of first XI and squad. Man Utd are a mess but have the financial clout to turn things around quicker than anyone providing they have a cohesive direction (moot). Brighton (& to a lesser extent Brentford and Bournemouth) are cannier.
We’ve been sold a pup with the hyperbole around the NFL stadium. Moving us into a sporting bracket that isn’t matched by the (lack of) ambition from the owners on the football side.
