Why do people think we should get top 4 . Others outspend us massively on transfers , even more so on salaries . We will have the occasional positive blip , when generational talents like Kane , Bale , Modric come along . We may occasionally fluke a manager who out performs Levynomics , but it will be rare . Facts are facts the clubs with the biggest budgets will be far more consistently in the top 4 . Five clubs do that United being the current under performer . If Newcastle find wriggle room at some point it will be six . Now add in an injury crisis and a very long suspension and Ange is doing fine in my book . Arteta who I loathe had Woolwich massively underperforming, not only did they stick with him they mega backed him . Cancelling contracts of very highly paid players to change the dynamic , we eventually did it with NDombele when we could not shift him and had no choice . They then massively backed him with the finished article on big wages , not teenage punts . That is what it took to turn Woolwich around , ( i say through gritted teeth ),we don’t have the ambition to compete .
Good post.

We all look at our teams through a jewellers eyepiece and can be fooled by this at times. Objectively, we are on a par with Villa or Newcastle in terms of quality and depth I’d say.

Liverpool, City, Woolwich and Chelsea are light years ahead of us in terms of first XI and squad. Man Utd are a mess but have the financial clout to turn things around quicker than anyone providing they have a cohesive direction (moot). Brighton (& to a lesser extent Brentford and Bournemouth) are cannier.

We’ve been sold a pup with the hyperbole around the NFL stadium. Moving us into a sporting bracket that isn’t matched by the (lack of) ambition from the owners on the football side.

Ok, even with your removal of the last 10 games, for me, that is still filthy form that would be nowhere near top 4
Filthy form? That's 1.7 PPG, which equates to 65 points over a season. I'm not sure exactly what you're expecting from a team with a new manager, who had drastically changed the way we play. That points tally gets you 5th.

Hardly "filthy form."

You honestly expected top 4 with all of the changes and coming off an 8th place finish the season before?

He was asked yesterday if he wished he had a bigger squad.

In terms of numbers he said no, in terms of quality to contribute at the top of competitions, he said we didn’t have the capacity to do so and then he stopped himself. Then he said we are only three windows into changing a squad and playing style etc.

Diplomatic.

Facing the same problem as every manager.
Yep.

Reading between the lines Ange is at the slightly frustrated but hopeful stage with Levy.
As the pressure increases over the next few games he will continue to point at the tools at his disposal. We've seen this before multiple times.
When he is given a French promising winger and a bargain old vet in January to plug the holes he will proceed to the fully frustrated with Levy stage

He has a few stages/months left yet before he either melts down or gets sacked. Depends on his ambition whether we see meltdown or sack.

It's all so predictable though, I mean how can we compete? We are only a poor team in London with a small stadium and low ticket prices.. we aren't Chelsea, Woolwich or Liverpool...

Why should we expect more?

Exactly , I don’t want to be posting , ah fuck it , it really does not matter who we have as manager . The irony is we have the stadium and we are squeezing salaries not pushing the boat out . Blaming Ange is like blaming a nurse cos your Nan is in a corridor on a trolley .

Exactly! I see a comparison made to Chelsea. They've got one of the best players in the league in Cole Palmer, a match winner. He's having a similar impact on them as Gareth Bale had with us. He's just that player who can win you a game in a moment - we don't seem to have any of them. Also Chelsea went and signed Neto and Sancho when they wanted a new winger while we signed a 19 year old from Burnley!

With the current players we have, I wouldn't say we are underachieving. I'm amazed how many people expect us to be in the Top 4. Ultimately, we need all our squad to be fit and need our star players like Romero, Maddison, Kulusevski and Son to be in top form all season to compete! So far this season, only Kulusevski has consistently played well. Romero and Son are having terrible seasons and Maddison has been inconsistent.

The only good spell we had since 2019 was them few months under Conte but people seem to forget that Son went on the form of his life during those months and won us plenty of games we didn't deserve to win! Managers get all the credit when their teams are winning, but get all the flack when their teams lose and its incorrectly extreme on both ends.

Has Arne Slot made Liverpool better or is Mo Salah being in ballon d'or form the main reason for Liverpool having such a good start? Because I've seen Liverpool in many tight games this season where Salah's brilliance won them the game! If we had an inform Son then our results could be very different too.

Just a cash machine for our owners.

Sucking people in. This time they have signed a great salesman as a manager too.

Get those Aussie dollars in the coffers. Working a treat.

All this Ange bashing, and I have one of the biggest clubs, has nothing to do with the man as a person, in fact from my part I like the bloke he seems to have integrity, humour and honesty, a bloke I'd enjoy sitting in a boozer with. It's just about his footballing philosophy. Not gonna start listing all what I dislike about it, done that enough over the past few weeks/months, and I know Ange has great support for how he plays the game, mainly from opposition supporters, sorry couldn't help myself!
Seriously he has a huge following from a lot of Spurs fans but I'm just not one of them and even if he were to win some silverware this season I'd still want him gone because progress for me is measured in the way you perform in The EPL and I'm finding it difficult to watch Ange-Ball week in week out!

It's these Happy ClapperTM Levy LoversTM who think their Enic OverlordsTM have provided the manager with a Top 3 squad that are letting this club down and wanting to sack the manager etc etc etc!

Pretty sure that's how it works :D

According to the usual negative posters (John Thomas, Davey88, Doom Funk), the owner is shit, the manager is shit and nearly all the players are shit but its still unacceptable to be losing games. No constructive feedback or ideas. Just give out about everyone and everything at the club, especially any fans who are caught supporting the team!

To be fair, ENIC really do need to continue with the investment into the playing squad. Like everyone else on here, I have no idea what the overall plan is, or what the projected timescale for that plan is, but it sure as hell won't align with the expectations of some fans. Nor will we suddenly be playing champagne Football from the get go, so calling for a manager's head because of a bout of inconsistency only half way into a second season, with much of the spine missing, is ridiculous to me.

However, I do believe we have the framework in place now, where our future purchases need to be established players that elevate now, rather than 2-3 seasons from now. We've reduced the squad age, reduced the wage bill, and removed the vast majority of big wage "deadwood" that was clogging up the squad. Now is the time to bring in "difference makers." It's not like we don't have the capacity to accommodate higher wages for that type of player.

Yep,

I wonder where Conte and Mou would have taken us without a 20 plus goal Kane and prime Son. 2 seasons running we have suffered massive injury tolls, with a backup of teenagers and second string players. Every team has to manage injuries, I get that.

We do not have the depth to compete at the highest level. Our table position is in sync with our wages principles.
I hope Ange is given time to manage a squad that fits his belief system. I , for one, don't think a change of manager will accomplish anything other than a new name. Let's see where this project takes us.

Give the guy the whole season is my view.

They wouldn’t have taken the job. They would have known they were onto a hiding to nothing.

Yet nobody is taking my two seats together in the south stand for Sunday. My season tickets are in the cheapest price band too yet are 83 quid each for the match!

Now wonder they haven’t gone. Fans aren’t mugs.

So who do you think that will improve us will work for Levy if we sack Ange, especially considering we are clearly reducing salaries despite the stadium ?

I am genuinely of the belief if you are better than Ange you wait for an offer from a club that will match your ambition . Spurs most definitely are not that club in my opinion

Oh bore off mister moral police.
Go and be offended in the corner if you will :dohertyshrug:

Glad someone else is beginning to see sense.

Spurs this season have scored the 3rd most goals, conceded the 3rd least and conceded the 2nd least shots on target in the Premier League.

We've had Vicario, Romero, Van de Ven, Bentancur, Solanke, Richarlison all available for one reason or another. We've massively cut the wage bill (in which has meant the squad isn't as big) - On top of all this Ange has got us performing statistically. The losses and draws aren't all on him, it's individual errors, poor judgement from players or missed chances.

I see a lot about our losses to Ipswich and Palace... So, say we beat Ipswich 2-1 and Palace 1-0, but then lost to City 4-0 and Man Utd 3-0, what would be getting said then? Most probably "We should be beating Ipswich and Palace, the real tests are City and United"

I dislike AP's basketball approach to the game. It's an "immature" view of how the EPL game should played. If Ange went I'd like to see us buy out Thomas Franks contract at Brentford. This is a manager who thinks about the game and opposition pre-match and sets his stall out accordingly but is capable and not afraid to alter things mid-game if he feels it's needed.

Now is the time to bring in "difference makers." It's not like we don't have the capacity to accommodate higher wages for that type of player.
I'm afraid that the "difference maker" wouldn't come to the present THFC. He would prefer a club that aims at the top. Only if you present a major plan with other significant signings he would. As other clubs have done. To bring an extreme example, do you think that Mbappe would come whatever the salary?
