This guy can barely move around at this level. Picking him as your single pivot, in a team where everybody and their dog pushes forward, just because his ability on the ball would be of use when playing out from the back is suicidal. You might as well put someone like Maddison at GK then.
He either won’t play at all, or will play next to runners that’ll make up for all that ground that he can’t cover. I guess Ange got overexcited after playing him behind two AMs -Maddison and Kulusevski- had led to those back to back wins against Brentford and United some months ago.

I’ve always been a fan of his but he’s really disappointed me. He’s downed tools and just given up. He should be a leader in this team and he hasn’t been.

Totally agree with you on this. Always liked him but he looks like he’s not giving a fuck or he’s completely knackered.
not even sure he’s downed tools! I think the injuries, lack of playing time etc have just taken their toll! Doesn’t have the mobility for this system!
Such a disappointment to see him deteriorate to this extent. I want to think that it's the injuries that is the reason, which would dishearten even the strongest character. The English game is relentless and when you factor in internationals, the top players hardly get a rest.
