Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Says the right things and has a great attitude but I’m not seeing him do the business on the pitch.

All our wingers need to be able to beat their man over and over and they can’t. I’d rather Moore and others get their shot rather than blow £40M on a player that may come good for us.

We need to act quick and be ruthless. Levy is just happy with the extra CL money rolling in next season and expect a glacial pace to make a decision on Ange’s future whilst our rivals move faster.

We have young left wingers that should be given a chance, if we make a move in that position they shouldnt be a teenager it should be someone ready to compete
Tel may become a brilliant inside forward he's no winger. But he isn't our problem I'm hoping he goes with the coach. The tiny cameo of Adjay ( homegrown player) was far more impressive. I'd rather him and More got the minutes .

People really forget how much Sonny struggled the first 6 months after coming over from Germany - and he’d played a lot more football than Tell, and was coming into a well set up, coherent team.

This guy has talent, he could be a real goal threat, but he needs to adapt to the PL more and beef up his upper body strength a bit.

I wouldn’t begrudge giving him a half or full season loan under a new manager, to see if there is any improvement from the player. If it doesn’t work out, we could return him back to BM. I’m assuming his wages are way less than Werner’s and he’s much younger, with a possibly higher ceiling.

I’m also fine if he goes back to BM this summer.

I think we keep him (on loan) until Christmas , if that's allowed... give him the same half a season that some think Ange might get....

...then reassess in the New Year!

...unless it's all too late by then!

Do people want Levy making decisions or not?

Do you not think Vinai Venkatesham and (potentially) Paratici might actually be making that decision

I’d rather Moore had got given his minutes this season.

We don’t need a player like him that might come good just because his wages are relatively low. We need a player to come in and make an impact now like serious clubs do.

I wouldn’t put it past us to organise another season loan to kick the can down the road just because it’s a deal we can do. Like Werner I suspect it will be pointless.

A small collection of 5/10 performances that shouldn’t lead to him being signed. Rather underwhelming. Would Moore, Yang or Solomon be any worse for no money spent? Doubt it.

Many scathing comments on a young player coming in to the strongest league in world expecting him to be an instant success in a team that has had it's worst league season since 1977.
He must have shown some talent for the scouts of one of Europe's top clubs Bayern to recommend the club to buy him and he wasn't that cheap for someone so young.
Maybe he hasn't progressed as much as hoped , I'm happy to leave it to Lange , Paratici (if coming) plus Ange or new manager who have far more knowledge than anyone here to make the decision, keep & sign or get rid.

On 26 July 2022, Tel signed for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich on a four-year contract. The transfer fee paid to Rennes was of €28.5 million, bonuses included. On 6 March 2024, he extended his contract at the club until 2029

I recall Postecoglou stating when Tel first joined on loan that he'll be here next season, that was before he even kicked a ball IIRC.

Q: "Will Tel be at Spurs next season?"
"He'll be a Tottenham player, mate."
Long presser, but he says all the relevant stuff in the first couple of minutes.
It's here too;

That article is dated 5th Feb 2025, his Spurs Debut was the 6th.

And now those same scouts are fine to let him leave Bayern … So what does that tell you?

If Bayern want to give him to us for 10/15M Euro then fine … but otherwise, potential is just that potential … we need established players if we paying high transfer fees.

Not the scouts , he's out of favour with the current manager doesn't mean he's no good.
Seem to remember a certain manager at a London club letting De Bruyne leave and not playing Salah , sometimes managers get it wrong , in the PL Ange has got it wrong 22 times this season, his get out of jail card the Europa League :)

He was asked about Tel in his pre match against Brighton and sort of evaded the question with a non-commital answer like it wasn't up to him.

Wouldn't be surprised if the desicion on Ange's future hasn't already been made , people in football don't hold grudges when they get their cards and leave with multi million redundancy pay.

PS
Nine minutes in he is asked about Tel , talks about being " invited in and gate crashing meetings" . In all previous interviews on transfers into the club he has been adamant that he makes the final desicion but not this time. Why?

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I don't see how anybody can predict what sort of player Tel will turn into .
In 2012 Chelsea signed de Bruyne at 20 yrs old , he played a whole three matches for Chelsea, was loaned out to W Bremen and eventually sold to Wolfsburg in 2014 , Man C stepped in for him in 2015 and look what he has achieved since.
We have to trust the likes of Lange, Paratici and other coaches at Spurs to make the right desicion.

I think part of the issue is that our squad is full of might be amazing players in 3 years time but we don't know.

We need more players who are ready now.

The issue is the fee init? How much would you pay Bayern for him? 55M?

… and as the 9th richest club in the world … if you think we should be a Wolfsburg/ Roma equivalent - trying to turn rejects from Bayern and Chelsea into gold rather than signing established players then we’ll agree to disagree - Although it seems Levy agrees with you so congratulations I guess
