The defending is far, far better under Iraola. Iraola actually has tactics, Ange is merely disorganized ideals.

The reason I'm bullish on Iraola is that it reminds me a lot of the AVB->Poch transition. Instead of tearing everything up and starting over we found someone in Poch that could more competently do what AVB was trying to do, who could fill in the gaps which were clearly lacking.

What we need is to marry this attacking philosophy to a more competent defence. Iraola played a similar style and conceded 19 fewer goals with much less talented defenders.
Huijsen just went to Real Madrid. Kerkez is close to Liverpool. Us meanwhile started Gray and Dragusin for a long period of time. I love Iraola, but let's have a bit more context here.

I think that's a great point, you need someone with a force of personality at a big club, but that cuts both ways. A powerful personality will have power both for and against you, and if they aren't getting their players you're better off with a yes-man like Ange. Unless he can't do it of course.

Levy seems to have tried bringing in the biggest name he could find a few times and did not like the result. Trending toward a Frank or Iraola or whomever would seem to mean he wants to continue the pattern of someone who will never question who's in charge.
"Big name" is not what I mean by "force of personality".

Ange is definitely a big personality. Poch and Jol were charismatic presences. By all reports AVB would weave tapestries of convincing-sounding bullshit about modern football tactics to anyone who would listen.

Remember when we walked away from a deal with Erik ten Hag because Levy didn't think he had enough personality/charisma/whatever?

Levy wants someone who is going to look and sound very in charge when on camera.

That's not Nuno, and it's really not Frank so much either. Glasner is pretty low-key too.

I don't know if Frank is the best choice, but in comparison to Nuno, if we are looking for someone who's done well with modest resources and want to let them see what they can do with ours, I'm for that. Nuno seemed not to be able to do better, but that doesn't mean Frank cannot.
Yeah that's a fair point. Just because Nuno failed to hit the ground running doesn't mean Frank can't.

I just think the comparison is identical in where they are at when we hire them. Hopefully Frank can evolve and take the step forward. Nuno couldn't. Setting up teams to stop other teams playing is his specialty and he showed it again this year with Forrest. It was only towards the end of the season when teams nearly figured out Forrest and showed them more respect, that we saw Nuno's same limitations that he had at Spurs. We never dominated teams and created enough chances under him and its the same with Forrest this season. But if teams step on them then bang, his low block is perfectly coached as is his transitional counter attacks.

I fear Frank has the exact same limitations and it'll be highlighted at Spurs where we are expected to dominate teams and break down low blocks. Something his Brentford teams have always struggled against.

All this talk because talk is cheap.

Like ENIC and Ange.

Thomas Frank is a worse manager than Nuno.

Nuno has taken Forest further, than Frank has taken Brentford, in a shorter period of time.

Nuno wasn't good enough for Spurs in 2021

Why would we accept a worse manager in 2025?

We need to get off the ENIC hamster wheel.

THFC are a massive football club with small time owners.

The Frank talks been going on for a while. I shared this behind closed doors at the time

Thomas Frank

i like frank and he's a good fit for us. once you accept who we are (mate) he's about as good as it gets. fact is, we're not going to buy specific players for a manager and we're not going to go big on wages. we look for deals and opportunities and expect the manager to cook with what we bring home to him. that's why jose and conte were never going to work and why poch did until we starved him with no signings for a year. we need a football lifer with a big football brain who likes a challenge. i think frank fits the bill nicely.

he's already in london too so prob willing to take a little less to stay put.

Apparently changing your mind, being undecided, preferring to wait for the moment or seeing both sides to an argument makes you part of some weirdo "cult".

But posting the same thing every day for months on end ("Has he gone yet?" and the like) or calling the man who has brought us our first European trophy in 41 years "a fat Greek cunt" and so on is perfectly rational behaviour.

Nah, the noises coming out of the club were that we wanted Eze and Neto. We didn't get either of them.

What noises?

One season and they only finished 9 points ahead in the end. Forest have a 50% higher wage bill (Brentford have the second lowest in the league).

Hard to say how he would do at a bigger club but he's hardly a shit manager and has done an amazing job at Brentford.
