He's a good player IMO, but he's a bit lost on the pitch recently. That's UP to Frank to give him the instructions were he should play and not let him do whatever he wants during the game. But I think that, in case we go to knockouts, he will be a very important player, as he was in the last Europa League. He's experinced and used to play under pressure in South America. Uruguai always play like they are in knockouts, Very similar to Argentina in the last WC.

Bentancur was a central figure in some of the worst performances last season and it looks like nothing has changed
If you play Rod as an 8 you MUST play a 10 in front of him- the guy is a water-carrying 8 ONLY and sadly rarely contributes offensively. He's not any kind of a creative passer either.

Well, if so, he's barely a serviceable 6. I'd rather just play Gray at the 6 if Palh needs to be rotated.
Pretty sure it started as a Bentancur/Sarr double pivot, with Bergval as an ACM in a 4231.

What will really get me is, if we sign him on a new contract, and then can't get X player we really need because we are short a few million... When we start playing with a 10 full time he will be largely unnecessary anyways, with Sarr, Bergvall, Gray and Palhinha all well ahead of him. Add in Xavi, Maddison and Kulu and we will be well-stocked in CM and CAM.
He's been close to signing this deal as he was to Bodo's attackers last night, close but not close enough.

That was done last year or at the latest in the summer, and the club have told Frank to make use of him.
The real test of Frank is what he does with Bentancur after last night. The guy is horribly out of form and really only played well against PSG the entire season. If it's Kane or Son, you play your senior player into form. Bentancur isn't that guy, and he has Gray breathing down his neck now.
Think its mad giving him a new contract. We have a ton of players and need to free up space for some new signings. Signing Tel, Ben Davies new contract, this, it all feels like poor squad padding which then restricts us.

You don’t know he rates him though. Managers rarely publicly say they don’t fancy a player.
With Maddison, Dejan, Solanke all out, RKM not ready, Tel, Odobert not good enough, Richarlatan being crap. What are our other options? Not too many of them…

A bit like when Poch first joined, Frank needs to cut these guys off and trust the youth. We aren't doing fuck all with this guy in CM. Massively inconsistent and just so so average.
its no coincidence that everytime he starts in games where we need to show some football, we look shite. hes not good enough on the ball, and hes not good enough off the ball either as last nights ridiculous lunge in the box showed.
people have this misconception of him that hes good on the ball, hes anything but. hes quite similar to winks on the ball, hell actually bring pressure onto us by him having the ball.

yea the front line is shit and the midfield are always going to struggle when you got 3 stinkers in front of you, but bentancur is a poor player and is now a weak link.
I just can't get over how unambitious his passing is. Does anyone really ever remember him making some progressive incisive passes?

Like you say, he isn't good off the ball and he cartainly isn't good on it.
At least JP is excellent off the ball and also has a goal in him etc
ive seen bentancur try and do quite simple passes forward recently and he misplaces them, hes just not got the ability to be a good midfielder.
if youre playing in midfield and you aint great on the ball, you need to be one hell of a beast off it, and play with intelligence....he doesn't tick them boxes either.
He’s a classy player but having one good game in five is not acceptable. Too often he goes missing in games though he’s not alone in that. He really must do better, I understand that coming back from an ACL is a long, long road and some players never fully recover.
