Chairman's Message

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The exact reasons why AvB left and we were 'forced to change manager.'
Could be subject to a confidentiality clause in the settlement agreement.
Who exactly is deciding on which players to buy and why, after countless windows, are they not buying the ones the manager wants. (Or are they? We don't know because no one tells us)
I get the impression from what Hoddle and Mabbutt were saying on the Spurs Show the other day that it's very much the DoF, with Levy deciding if it works financially.

Why, after saying bale was not for sale, did we go ahead and sell him anyway?
Did we ever actually say this?

I actually would have understood this more if we hadn't reinvested the money in worse players and they'd said that we desperately need the funds for the stadium.
There isn't another Bale to reinvest in and, seriously, I don't think any could have been expected to think almost all of them would be such flops.
I sometimes feel like the chairman and his board think that the club is all theirs and we, the fans, are just a cash producing bunch of morons with no valid claim to an opinion.
Whether they think it or not, that is the modern reality - which is why half arsed statements like these are meant to placate people during the down times. Judging by some of the responses to it so far, it works on a great many of the fans!

BushHillSpurs BushHillSpurs I agree with a lot that you say, but you need to stop coming across like you are preaching - there are people that support the club in a different way to you, and it doesn't make them any less of a fan.

Even in games where we gained maximum points, our football was not always what we have come to expect and associate with our Club.

To all those mocking the people who said this back in the autumn.

Suck it.

I for one wasn't 'mocking' this but I was happier and more comfortable with us winning, looking relatively solid, having a game plan but with room for tweaking and players to gel than I am now. He could equally be referring to the football that's been played post AVB.

Also I take issue with 'what we have come to expect and associate with the club.'
This goes back to that 'tottenham way' fallacy. There are people like myself who are now in their 30s who grew up watching dean Austin, david kerslake, Jason dozell etc and are yet to see any real evidence of this fabled 'tottenham way' or any sort of sustained success trying to play in this way, bar 1 or 2 seasons under Harry redknapp.
Great if you were around in the early 60s. Or can recall watching the 84 and 87 sides. (Again we go back to seasons not decades.)

For fans of my generation the 'tottenham way' is to have a handful of flair players, a blancmange of a defence and to constantly look like we're going to achieve something before watching it all disintegrate in front of our eyes - often due to our own love of pushing the self destruct button. (Or selling our best players...)

Fuck off you bald bastard.

You are a busted flush. Take your money you have earned off our great club and fuck off you clueless twat.

Clearly you cannot spot the purpose of this message and are unaware of when you're being pandered to.

Where was the top man's echoing of The Tottenham Way when he sacked Redknapp and brought in AVB in the first place?

He tried to take the next step....AVB turned out to be shit so he fired him. A mistake and thats that.

Pandered to? No....you were simply wrong about our style and identity as a club, you dismissed it for results, and now its been shoved in your face by Levy.

The hardest part for me to accept is that this is the the man that has taken us from VDV, Modric and Bale to Chadli , Naughton and Rose but goes on to reflect on a season that might have been

Yet again, the straw man bullshit. I did nothing of the kind.

For about the 100th time, I will remind you that I advocated AVB's removal this season, repeatedly expressing my concerns at our lack of attacking play.

Sorry, but its not a fallacy....we havent always played the Tottenham way, but it doesnt mean thats not what we strive to be as a club.

The top man just said it. Yet you dismiss it....?

I daren't get into this with you as I am going out shortly. But it sort of is a fallacy. One that our fans hang onto in this sort of hope that one day we will rise from the ashes like some sleeping behemoth. Yet the side and style of play most people look to base the club ethos on was only sustained for a few years, whilst we had enough of the members of that double winning side (and of course bill nich) that were good Enough. We had a revival in the 80s with a fantastic team and won several cups. But again we didn't quite manage to make this translate into prolonged success. Then Irvin scholar came along and that was that.
I am guilty of this 'tottenham way' stuff for a long time but this season has really opened my eyes.

I love the history of the club, it's ideals, it's players who I never got to watch live but are so revered. But I don't like the fact that the current owners trade off of all this to try to convince us that the reason AVB left was because the style of football wasn't 'the tottenham way.' It gives fuel to all the fans who are happy to moan and complain in the stands that we 'only' won 1-0 and creates a shit atmosphere.
Levy is a results man so don't for a minute think that he wouldn't have been happy for us to play out 38 'boring' 1-0 wins to the title. Something went on behind the scenes. It was probably a number of people's fault. Including levy. Including AVB. I for one would love to be treated like an adult and told exactly what happened from the horses mouth.
