This is our grand pattern, isn't it? Solanke is a decent player, but the trouble is that we blew a huge sum on Richarlison and needed to blow another pile of cash on Solanke to fix it. If we'd get it right the first time we could have spent more for an elite player the first time and still had cash left over for other quality signings.

8 of the club's top 10 most expensive signings in history are with the team right now, and the team isn't good enough.
True. Richie is good enough to be a very good alternative to Solanke ... IF only he wasn't always injured. Which of course means he isn't good enough! I'm not sure Richie's issues were foreseeable. In the 5 seasons he had with Watford and Everton he actually only missed a handful of games.

It has been almost a year and it has gotten worse.

Completely agree with your first point (made back in Feb!).

Not so sure about the 2nd being "worse". We have been much better at not conceding from the high line. However I do agree that fullback defending - particularly down Porro's side - is a major issue and has not been corrected and, indeed, is getting worse and is entirely on the manager (Porro's his player; he hasn't looked for better cover and can't/won't tweak the system to protect better).

Basically, like many things in life it's complex. Recruitment, coaching set up, Ange's tactics, etc., it can be all of these things - they do work to influence one another, after all. I would suggest my interpretation puts a little bit more emphasis on club culture and structure than yours, though I don't think we're far apart in our approximation of where Ange's weaknesses lie. I find the arguments on him on here similar to those under AvB, and as circular - e.g., excessively wedded to a system.
Yeah it's certainly much more nuisanced than people seem prepared to engage with. Thing is I didn't come to the position I hold quickly. It's been a sad process. Coaches always want more, but it's not a bottomless pit. You have to manage the resources you have and it's the resource management that's cemented my lack of trust. His comms are pretty poor too.

The AVB comparison is an intresting one. In Ange's favour I think he is at least wedded to a system that makes chances, it does not just recirculate the ball. A Bale level game breaker would certainly have won us more points

lol being a Spurs fan is toxic. This is what almost 25 years and a solitary tin cup does to you.
You can be very chill, when you haven't written thousands in cheques to see the club you have supported since you were a child turned into the anchor tenant of entertainment conglomerate.

I notice increasingly the vibe between the supports of the team (even if they don't go to the games or agree on ENIC) is just fine. It's not them talking loudly about things they have no real investment in.

Don't always agree with you Murphy Murphy Nutter-Naylor Nutter-Naylor bus-conductor bus-conductor AlabamaSpur AlabamaSpur many others but their depth of knowledge and love of THFC is very evident. Less so the flagshaggers and personality cultists. It's them I have no tolerance for.

I mean ultimately Ange has been throughly fucked over with the squad hasn’t he. Regardless of the cash spent.
Was he fucked over? Or was he hired because he'll just accept this shite, smile and carry on? IE, the total opposite to Mourinho and Conte who will happily voice annoyance at being sent into a gun fight with a small blunt knife.
Yeah the hype around these kids does irritate me a bit. Remember Japhet Tanganga.

He's 17/18 I think, he might be great, might not. Too many noises from inside the club/client journalists about how he's the 'next big thing'. Let's just let him grow and develop and see what happens.
Our fans overhype every kid from the academy. They struggle to understand that a kid can look like Messi in the U18's but be well below average in mens football. Because even the worst footballers in the PL would destroy an U18's league.

It's like people talking about the women's game an not seeing how idiotic the comparisons are ( Matt1882 Matt1882 I know you! That last line is not an invitation for you to go in like Cuti Romero on speed. I'm protecting you !) But its been perpetuated by people like Windy on the extra inch every bloody kids the new Messi. Do you remember Edwards !!

Ange played the game talked up Bergvall and Gray as ready. He can't now pretend he wasn't in the loop just like he was happy to front the Djed Spence contract extension.

Tbf remember when you doubted cold palmer.

😉

youre only interested in sucking him off and getting off on watching others praise him, its fucking creepy. you can understand little kids being fanboys of messi and ronaldo ...but actual adults idolising some bloke called ange postecoglou who's won trophies about as prestigious as a pub quiz .....very strange.

I think it was a Levy "masterstroke" tbh.

In the past, the way to grow a clubs brand in foreign markets was to win on the pitch. Man United. Arse and Chelsea got big in the US because they won a lot.
What Levy has done is grow our market share in Korea with Son and now Australia with Ange. He also did it in the US with Keller, Friedel and the Duece.

Imagine how happy he is with himself, expanding hugely into the US, Korea and Australia, without winning anything of note.
Bet he looks at United Chelsea and Woolwich and laughs his head off at how much work they had to do to achieve the same.

I'd fucking love to see England Men vs England women once a year.
hulk smash GIF

Puny women.

There is a reasonable chance we get turned over tomorrow and we all know what's going to happen Sunday. If we lose these two then we will probably slip into the bottom half and Ange will have the following PL record: P 53, W 26, D 8, L19. Now take out those first ten games which I know people don't want to do but it reads: P 43, W 18, D 6, L19. That is filthy form and many a manager has gone for far better under Levy. Can only see one outcome on Monday... Mason version 3.0
Well if you're going to take out the first 10 games to suit a narrative, let's also take out the last 10 games of the same season to give it some balance.

P 43, W 22, D 7 L 14

I know you don't want to take those games out, but anyone can cherry pick games to suit a narrative.

Much of that 43 game period had us missing 2/3 of our squad as well.

As with everything, there's far more nuance involved than you seem to want to acknowledge.

Funny that...

Happens on here too. Pre-season plenty were shooting their load over Bergvall, Gray. Lankshear etc.
It’s like people have actually no idea that PL football is an enormous step up from the levels those lads have been playing at.

People both inside and outside of the club are desperate for a new Kane.

Having a player who was one of our own was such a defining part of our rise to fighting at the top of the prem and being in the CL. It was part of the club identity. And now Harry has moved on and both the club and fans are looking for the next one.

The hubub around Mikey would not be nearly as big if we still had guys like Skipp and Winks in the side. Who are nowhere near Kane in star status or skills. But who could shoulder the role of being the lad that came up through the academy all the way to the first team and be "our voice" on the team. If either of those guys were still here Mikey would still be hyped up but nowhere to the same degree as he is.

I've followed Spurs since 1994. In that time, our academy has produced Sol Campbell, Ledley King and Harry Kane. The only players good enough for us or better.
Every other kid that fans have raved about has gone downwards. So, so many of them.

Which is why we should not have had to lean on the youngsters so much.
This could ruin a few with the poor form of the team, the club needed players for the now not five years time.

i can understand son having a following... but this guy? hes not even a player, hes not won anything respectable...very strange.

the big 'winner' who was disgusted that we wanted to lose a game to stop the scum actually winning the league....has eric dier standing on the halfway line, waiting to chase players twice as fast, while we got 9 men....yea, hes a winner alright.

We never win a cup and have a strong season in the league.

Granted we often don’t win a cup and are shite in the league.

But it warms my heart seeing us being shit in the league again this year - it means there is a chance in the cup a small glimmer that won’t stop me dreaming until probably mid to late March.

I never understand this one of our own nonsense. I want to see the best possible players, I don’t care whether they come from the Academy or anywhere else in the world. I don’t regard Kane as special because he was an academy lad, he just happened to be a brilliant footballer. He could have been from Egypt for all I care.
