Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Last night was poor, I want to give him some slack because we do have players that seem very injury prone but at the same time the consistency of our performances has been horrific.

I think Ange's future might hinge on the cup game against Man Utd.

However many times do I hear, 'id take 12th and a cup win'.

Well looks like that might be our only hope this season

I’d love a dynastic manager, building teams over and over, winning trophies etc. I’m sure you all would too. Was discussing ‘dynastic’ managers v ‘project’ managers the other day with a mate. The former are rare, the latter the norm (way before we called them project managers).

Anyway, the relationship changed/began to sour between Ange and us ‘the fans’ before and after City last season. While there have been the odd ‘AP’ chants in the ground this season, the doubts (on line, at games, in the pub) have really grown and culminated with last nights ‘scenes’ at Bornmuff. Personally I find him arrogant and punchy without substance. But hey Ho.

That’s the PR stuff then. The playing side - you know tactics, motivation, in game management - has been increasingly amateurish despite the odd high profile win.

No idea around set pieces and no desire to change or work on them despite the trend (set by Woolwich) for winning games by attacking and defending set pieces well.

Bizarre team selections. Hanging kids out to dry. No leadership. No discernible style now (after demonstrating one at the beginning). In game substitutions leaving us flummoxed.

He’s a dead man walking now whatever your views on Ange. We all know the script by now - Levy will throw him under the bus to protect himself - especially as the fans have turned.

Have lost the love for this club
Agree with everything till the last line. Stuck loving the club unfortunately.
A workmate last night over a few pints described it perfectly. Being a spurs fan must be like being in purgatory

Would anyone be happy seeing a Tottenham team coached like that at home?
They were up against a team with a budget which dwarfs theirs in every metric and created enough chances to win by a much wider margin, it's only credit to Forster they didn't. They created chance after chance after chance.

Meanwhile all our shots on target were tame pot shots the keeper saw coming miles off and didn't even need to move for. We didn't threaten them very much.

So yeah, I wouldn't mind us being coached like that at home. Because it's miles better than whatever we did against Ipswich, Fulham, Roma at home.

So why didn't the manager pipe up to the media when he didn't get who he wanted ? why keep quiet , why say he was happy with the squad-- just to keep his job, just to keep his wage coming in, he could have got sacked and had a big pay off

I’m sure Ange would rather be a success here than be sacked. He will never get another shot at this level. So he gets his head down and tries to do his best. Nothing wrong with that, I respect his work ethic. You cannot criticise him for trying to remain professional.

It’s on the people above him within the club to make a decision on his future.

I'll always process new information and change my opinion when the time is right. Last night was shocking. I actually don't mind the first half or the result. Losing 1-0 away to Bournemouth given all the players we are missing isn't the biggest shock in the world - in fact most of us expected it. But that second half performance was very worrying and has me now questioning if Ange can turn this slump around.

I think Ange picked the right team and we had a bright start but then concede from our first corner. Udogie at the back post just seems to read the flight of the ball all wrong and instead of taking a backward step, he just jumps and misses the ball and seems completely unaware that a Bournemouth player has ghosted in behind him. Another stupid individual error at a set piece but this in on Ange now. Its the same stupid goals every time. Fool me once, fool me twice, etc etc. Enough is enough.

Next big issue, and this has always been my only critique of Ange. The in game subs.... Christ! I said after the Palace game that we had zero shape when chasing the game because he was just taking off midfielders for forwards who just all ended up in eachothers way. Well yesterday was even worse! He takes off Sarr for Son and instantly Bournemouth start cutting us up like a knife through butter. I get that move though because it moved Deki central but this was a big gamble. Then with 15 to go when the game is still very much there, he takes off Maddison and Bissouma for Werner and Bergval. I felt so sorry for Bergval. He was basically playing as the lone 6 for the 15 mins he was on the pitch and Bournemouth were running through us. So we ended the game with some strange type of 4 1 5 formation because Kulusevski stayed up the pitch too. Son and Werner were getting in eachothers way out on the left. It was shocking and didn't need to happen. We were well in the game with our shape but he just threw on attackers with no plan. We should have been punished and been beating 4-0! That second half yesterday was very very concerning.

I still wouldn't put it past us to go and beat Chelsea next week (depends on Romero's availability). I think it all depends on if we can score early as that forces the other team to push up against us and we tend to play our best football then. Right now the hallmark to beating us is to park the bus and time waist so to make sure we get into no momentum and then wait for us to make a sloppy defensive error. Then once we go behind they know Ange will get the subs all wrong and it'll be easy then to go and score a few on transition.

What really disappoints me is I thought Ange had learned his lesson. Taking off Maddison for Sarr at 1-1 against West Ham looked defensive on paper but what it actually did was just gave us the correct shape to dominate West Ham in midfield and ultimately have more ball in their final third. Shape is everything in football and thats a few times now he's thrown it out the window when chasing a game.

The 2 assistant coaches need to be fucked out as soon as possible. Cant defend from set pieces, cant score from set pieces. Ange simply has to set us properly for certain games and has to accept he has to change his system for certain games. Need 4 quality players in the jan window and another 4 in summer, plus getting rid of deadweight (reguilon/Salmon/Gil/Son). Then there is a possibility of finishing top 4+trophy. If it was Ange who hunted to sign Solanke, its a massive red flag. Such a poor return.

It shouldn’t be.

But binning off everyone except Mason will cost money, and paying out Iraola’s contract (and likely he’d want his coaching staff too not fuckers thrust on him) will cost money and Levy is fucking tight.

I’m sure Slot for example had other reasons to turn us down, but paying out £15m odd in compensation probably didn’t appeal to Levy either.

If we pay out Iraola’s contract and get him in this current season I’ll be amazed.

He's done it before with Rednapp

I just have the feeling this morning that he still isn’t going anywhere for a while, I think Levy waits out the Carabao game, and I think he will also wait to see what happens in the Europa - I think both will be derogatory to our league position in an alarming way, but I just have a gut feeling it’s what he will do.

Part of me can understand it from a “just win a trophy” point of view and the “happy to finish 12th and win a cup” line might be spot on, unfortunately personally I just get the feeling we will wait it out and in a few months the time we’ll be out of the cups, and still 12th.

If we are poor v chelsea sunday then I think his time is up sorry to say.
You would have thought so. The only issue after a summer cutting wages with the potential investment on the horizon is paying off Ange and his staff. Doubt that will be much though, they'd probably keep Mason on as tea boy and the rest of the coaching staff seem to have been picked up on a motorway layby holding a cardboard sign saying 'will work for food'

At this stage I would be full Ange out if there was a credible person to come in and sort out the mess that is Tottenham Hotspur. But I can't think of a candidate. Nobody can turn this ship around. We are mediocre from top to bottom as a club and it seems to be by choice of the management.
This is where I’m at too. With every summer window, every new manager, every new DOF we think things will change - if anything we keep hitting new lows. We’re genuinely a mid table team now, in and around Brighton/brentford

Last night was poor, I want to give him some slack because we do have players that seem very injury prone but at the same time the consistency of our performances has been horrific.

I struggle with the injury thing for two reasons.

1. We’ve put out the same stinker of a performance against Leicester and Brighton with a fit squad

2. How much of our injury issues are down to Ange himself? The way we play and train puts the players bodies under huge strain. We’ve had the same issues at the same point the last two seasons

That blame also lies with the board for leaving the squad so thin.
