That team was an attacking, cavalier, swashbuckling team. At it's best, that is exactly what we are like under Ange. Bob would've respected the stubbornness to stick to his principles as well. Bob was nothing if not stubborn and stoic when it came to what he believed.
you clearly see things differently. There were 10 games where results were achieved at the start of this persons 'reign' and since then (and even debatable then) about the swashbuckling bit 🤖 Bob Marley is a legend, White Hart Lane was one of the iconic grounds in world football and the rest goes without saying. It's gone...don't mean to offend but that's my opinion.

I doubt very much that they'd love to. Levy would be a downside to what could be a great job.
It would be like quitting a stable job where you're performing well and are respected, to take a job paying more, but at a company that you know has a track record for screwing employees.

I'm not sure exactly why people deem us to be such a massive club, because we won a trophy 25 years ago? Because we have a new stadium?
We have pedigree from past success, but that was 60 years ago. But a big club....I'm not sure. We're a rich club, but we're not particularly successful, especially given our riches. We've had great players in the past, but no better than the Milans, Bayern, or even Ajax and Dortmund.

So what exactly makes up the massive club that managers would love to work at?
We have a recent track record of putting speed bumps in careers, of both players and managers.
The whole club needs an overhaul, because there just isn't a winning mentality. Even when Levy decides to spend money, the recruitment is beyond pathetic for the most part, every now and again we strike gold, like Bale and Modric, but they don't hang around. Which is weird considering what a huge club we are....
Happy Birthday Yes GIF

I mean the 10 games thing is a provable myth but whatever, we can agree to disagree.

So it seems from a glance at the last 18 hours or so, that the latest "don't sack him" logic is "why sack him if we'll be here again in 18 to 24 months"

And?
My logic would be that his replacement won't be available until the Summer so if we sack him now who is your preferred caretaker coach to finish out this season? That is why I'm not jumping around with excitement at the idea of sacking him right now. We won't have a good new manager until next season either way

sure. You love the club and can see it your way. there were some very lucky results in that first 10 matches in my opinion but there are better, more organised teams in this league (and others) and it shows. The holier than thou crap doesn't cut it long term but to get the job in the first place, some feat considering what's gone before at this club? just a shame..in my opinion.

Back to this theory that we'll just be back here in 18 months if we replace him

Where were we 18 months after Jol, Redknapp and Poch?

We weren't here calling for their sacking, were we?
No.

He's done.

The board are just going to try and hold out till summer rather than appoint an interim. It gives the appearance of not having a managerial merry go round. Nobody we want long term is available and the league season is dead in terms of all realistic goals with us 14 points off 6th place.

The only way he is sacked is if we realistically enter a relegation fight. So if we lost to Leicester at home (this is very unlikely to happen, they are drastically bad) then I think we'd hold panic talks. But imo from now we will tread water and likely see out the season 12th or above.

The league cup doesn't save his job imo - we would still look to hire an Iraola. A domestic cup double does and a Europa league trophy does, but only in the same sense that it got Di Matteo hired or kept Ten Haag in a job. The board would still have the finger on the trigger and doubt his long term capabilities in the league.

But anyway, I did say the Liverpool win was a false dawn. And it was. I can't get excited by any singular win under this coach as we will immediately be back to dismal the next match. 15th place is beyond the depths that even I thought he could sink, and frankly anyone still fighting his corner for any other reason than "wait till summer for available coaches" is an absolute embarrassment.

You honestly don’t think there is anyone in the world who will accept £100k-£200k p/w for 5 months, who will stand a better chance than Angelos of keeping us in the PL?

Not one person ?

Ange will keep us in the league .. we'll get a few players back and we will tread water. There's a decent little points gap. We'd have to end up with the worst form in the league over a very consistent period to get relegated from here. We are in that discussion but its incredibly unlikely to actually happen.

The fact we are on the periphery of the relegation candidates though ... good god how wrong the cultists have been proven to be. And no shame about it either. No ability to hold their hands up, just parroting the same old lines to protect their online egos. The ones who haven't disappeared anyway.

Although I still think it more likely than not that we stay in the PL with Ange, the odds are shifting week by week against that view.

I agree. You’ve even got journalists now who are saying that he doesn’t need to provide headline quotes every single press conference as it is only putting pressure on him. Yet it seems that’s what he continues today. When journalists are saying that, I think it was Dan Kilpatrick, Then you know it’s probably correct as they live off those.
It comes back to the idea that everything is about him.

I’d go further than humorous. I think it’s quite concerning that actual adults act in this way. The need to be agreed with. The need to target people who don’t agree with them. It’s the kind of behaviour I’d expect of kids at primary. As you say, name calling at 10 paces. We are becoming soft as fuck as a society if these folk are any reflection of the general public.
Agree.

There's also a few who actively monitor other posters opinions and hunt them down for any perceived "hypocrisy" over time. It's so pathetic. I mean, who cares if someone changes their mind or doesn't keep perfect consistency in their opinions on a football forum.
