I mean, there are people who genuinely believe that managers of clubs like Bournemouth, Fulham, Brighton, Brentford would prefer staying where they are to coming here. Whether it's because they strongly overestimate how appealing other clubs are, or strongly underestimate how appealing this club can be, or a combination of both, they're very pessimistic about the type of managers we can attract.

Despite some valid complaints about our general level of spending, we still spend a fortune compared to the overwhelming majority of the clubs. We occasionally have to sell our best players, but then how many clubs are actually immune to that? In fact some, such as Ajax and Dortmund, take pride in their ability to do just that. I can't imagine them having lower turnover rates than us.

Despite another common complaint that Levy is an especially trigger-happy chairman, we're somewhere in the middle in terms of how often we change managers. Even if this wasn't the case, it still wouldn't be a deal breaker for most. Pretty much any manager gets the sack at some point in his career, it hardly damages one's reputation beyond repair. Average lifespan of a manager is around 18-24 months these days, there's nothing exceptional in terms of how we operate.

No matter how you look at it, this notion that no self-respecting manager would work with Levy/ENIC under any circumstances is not grounded in reality. In fact, majority of them would love to.
A year or two ago I would agree with you. But now I’m not so sure . You are on a hiding to nothing managing this club now. Your bank balance will improve but your CV won’t.

I think any narrative that Iraola, Frank, Silva or Mckenna turn us down in the Summer is false and just being overly pessimistic. I think they'd be reluctant to leave mid-season and we'd be even more reluctant to pay the premium to get them mid-season hence why I've always been an advocate of giving Ange until May and then getting the right man in the Summer.

But this idea that they'd turn down Spurs to stay at their current role isn't reality. They'd all make the move. The only danger to losing out on them would be if other big clubs were in the market for them. But if the choice is either staying at Bournemouth/Brentford/Fulham/Ipswich or joining Spurs then they all make the move.
Spot on. All managers have egos and think they'll be the ones to handle Levy and bring success. End of that day as well its money so even if sacked after 18 months they get a big fat pay off. Nuno and Conte are proving being sacked here is hardly career ending. Competing against other wealthy clubs for them is a different matter but City, Arse, Chelsea, Liverpool and probably Utd and Newcastle wont be looking for new managers come summer so as far as the prem goes it will be a free field.

Not after a lower half of the table finish. The fact is you no longer have what Poch did at the club as a recent over shadowing. A large part of the fan base seem to be catatonic as we slip towards a relegation fight.

At the end of the day it almost feels like the life has been slowly sucked out of the club. That was why I backed Ange for as long as this season because it was fun after the first 10 games in the stadium there was a buzz. Now the stadium feels completely lifeless and for most the fan base (especially season ticket holders) it feels more of a chore to go. I also sold my tickets for the first time not because I couldn’t go to a match but because I knew we were going to get battered.

I agree. You’ve even got journalists now who are saying that he doesn’t need to provide headline quotes every single press conference as it is only putting pressure on him. Yet it seems that’s what he continues today. When journalists are saying that, I think it was Dan Kilpatrick, Then you know it’s probably correct as they live off those.
he wants to be a walking headline doesn't he? never stops telling anyone who still cares that he is this and that. Can't lose? If contract cut short does one get paid some part of the full contract? I bet he cannot believe someone with his 'pedigree' got the job in the first place? someone posted a Munn interview or something on here. It said 'they' lobbied for him? If he gets the tin tack, will all the new Aussie 'fans' that strangely worship him be gone too? 🙏

agreed, go for iraola, if he turns you down you get silva or terzic! if they turn you down you look in the mirror and say maybe its time to sell and get out of here, im bang in trouble.

if hes put himself into a place where he cant get them managers then hes in big trouble and his stock in the club will be coming right down so best to get out.

ALL 3 would come right now if we could agree the release with their clubs.
This. Top6 club job is not available that often. And even when it is, those clubs usually goes abroad with next hirings.

Who was the last guy promoted from low/mid PL tier to Top6 club as manager? I think that was Nuno in 2021? Ahh and Potter to Chavs. You could count also Maresca but lets be honest, he was chosen strictly based on fact he has Pep connection.

Guys like Iraola, Frank, Silva know next chance to jump into top6 club in England won't happen again soon for them, so they won't risk waiting till summer. Its all about Levy paying the price.

So it seems from a glance at the last 18 hours or so, that the latest "don't sack him" logic is "why sack him if we'll be here again in 18 to 24 months"

And?

That team was an attacking, cavalier, swashbuckling team. At it's best, that is exactly what we are like under Ange. Bob would've respected the stubbornness to stick to his principles as well. Bob was nothing if not stubborn and stoic when it came to what he believed.
you clearly see things differently. There were 10 games where results were achieved at the start of this persons 'reign' and since then (and even debatable then) about the swashbuckling bit 🤖 Bob Marley is a legend, White Hart Lane was one of the iconic grounds in world football and the rest goes without saying. It's gone...don't mean to offend but that's my opinion.

I doubt very much that they'd love to. Levy would be a downside to what could be a great job.
It would be like quitting a stable job where you're performing well and are respected, to take a job paying more, but at a company that you know has a track record for screwing employees.

I'm not sure exactly why people deem us to be such a massive club, because we won a trophy 25 years ago? Because we have a new stadium?
We have pedigree from past success, but that was 60 years ago. But a big club....I'm not sure. We're a rich club, but we're not particularly successful, especially given our riches. We've had great players in the past, but no better than the Milans, Bayern, or even Ajax and Dortmund.

So what exactly makes up the massive club that managers would love to work at?
We have a recent track record of putting speed bumps in careers, of both players and managers.
The whole club needs an overhaul, because there just isn't a winning mentality. Even when Levy decides to spend money, the recruitment is beyond pathetic for the most part, every now and again we strike gold, like Bale and Modric, but they don't hang around. Which is weird considering what a huge club we are....
Happy Birthday Yes GIF

I mean the 10 games thing is a provable myth but whatever, we can agree to disagree.

My logic would be that his replacement won't be available until the Summer so if we sack him now who is your preferred caretaker coach to finish out this season? That is why I'm not jumping around with excitement at the idea of sacking him right now. We won't have a good new manager until next season either way

sure. You love the club and can see it your way. there were some very lucky results in that first 10 matches in my opinion but there are better, more organised teams in this league (and others) and it shows. The holier than thou crap doesn't cut it long term but to get the job in the first place, some feat considering what's gone before at this club? just a shame..in my opinion.

Back to this theory that we'll just be back here in 18 months if we replace him

Where were we 18 months after Jol, Redknapp and Poch?

We weren't here calling for their sacking, were we?
No.

He's done.

The board are just going to try and hold out till summer rather than appoint an interim. It gives the appearance of not having a managerial merry go round. Nobody we want long term is available and the league season is dead in terms of all realistic goals with us 14 points off 6th place.

The only way he is sacked is if we realistically enter a relegation fight. So if we lost to Leicester at home (this is very unlikely to happen, they are drastically bad) then I think we'd hold panic talks. But imo from now we will tread water and likely see out the season 12th or above.

The league cup doesn't save his job imo - we would still look to hire an Iraola. A domestic cup double does and a Europa league trophy does, but only in the same sense that it got Di Matteo hired or kept Ten Haag in a job. The board would still have the finger on the trigger and doubt his long term capabilities in the league.

But anyway, I did say the Liverpool win was a false dawn. And it was. I can't get excited by any singular win under this coach as we will immediately be back to dismal the next match. 15th place is beyond the depths that even I thought he could sink, and frankly anyone still fighting his corner for any other reason than "wait till summer for available coaches" is an absolute embarrassment.
