While reading this analogy I had to think of the german pilot who commited suicide by crashing the plane into a mountain. He locked himself into the Cockpit the copilot and stewardesses were banging on the door but he didnt open.
In this analogy levy is the pilot ange and co knocking on the door...

My apologies if its not funny im german:)
It’s a great and darkly funny analogy. It’s the pessimist/realist view to my optimist/surrealist one.

Anyone that watched the whole press conference would know that what he meant in relation to being better off, was in terms of the total squad and the depth and also competition for spots. He spoke about the unacceptable position on the table and owned responsibility.

Also, it's not easy to avoid talking about players either injured or suspended, when most of the questions directed at Ange are related to these issues.

I really don't care what people take out of the press conferences, but I am confident that many here don't watch the full presser and just respond to you headlines and click bait.

I think it’s clear as day we are a better club than 18months ago. Sure we are bad in the league. But look at how poor Newcastle were last year, how bad Liverpool were the season they lost just VVD, how poor city have been with a couple of injuries. We’ve basically lost 80% of our starting 11 for a significant period of the season. Couple that with 10 guys leaving in the summer and it’s going to be awful! Football is a game of fine margins. Scrap a draw against Liverpool and then win by a sneaky goal against Newcastle in the final and it’s our best season in 16 years or so

I’m shocked his comments were taken out of context. Absolutely stunned. 😂😂😂😂

He did

“I am absolutely 100% confident that we are in a much better place today in all areas of the football club, than when we started”

15th 👍.

There was a bible basher from the US once who come out and said "if the bible said 2+2 was 5, I wouldn't argue with it, I'd go away and find a way to prove it was right"

That right there is the same insane culty logic of Ange and his followers.
Facts just don't matter.
And when facts don't matter to someone anymore, you can't argue with them.

Well first of all I get to 19 without counting Austin or Reguilon, so not sure of your math.

The project has always been to get younger and to build with patience through bringing along young talent. Gray, Bergvall, Odobert, Moore, these guys were supposed to be the squad depth and gain experience as they filled in for the first XI along the way.

PL squad list taken from their site. Maybe this is out of date?
We named 23 players. 4 goalkeepers. So 19 outfield players. Take off reguilon and Robson I get 17. Reguilon was only there as nobody else wanted him. I don’t even know who max Robson is but we are almost in February and he has played zero minutes in a season we have had an injury crisis.
So I’m not counting those two as senior outfield players Ange could rely upon. They were just names on a sheet of paper.

Each squad contains no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the "Home Grown Player" (HGP) criteria. The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be "Home Grown".

25 Squad players (*Home grown)
1 Austin, Brandon Anthony*
2 Bentancur, Rodrigo
3 Bissouma, Yves
4 Davies, Benjamin Thomas*
5 De Andrade, Richarlison
6 Dragusin, Radu-Matei
7 Forster, Fraser Gerard*
8 Heung-Min, Son
9 Johnson, Brennan Price*
10 Kulusevski, Dejan
11 Maddison, James*
12 Porro Sauceda, Pedro Antonio
13 Reguilon Rodriguez, Sergio
14 Robson, Max*
15 Romero, Cristian Gabriel
16 Sarr, Pape Matar
17 Solanke-Mitchell, Dominic Ayodele*
18 Spence, Diop Djed*
19 Udogie, Iyenoma Destiny
20 Van De Ven, Micky
21 Vicario, Guglielmo
22 Werner, Timo
23 Whiteman, Alfie Malik*

And I don’t buy this project stuff.

Last season Ange was saying his aim this season was to challenge for the league.
This season he reiterated that prior to the Woolwich game.

Anything now stating hey we never wanted/planned to be near the top teams right now is pure revisionist talk.

“This is the project stage!!”

Someone is bullshitting. Maybe Ange is just a salesman for levy peddling cheap goods as something else. But I think he really thought we had enough about us.

There has never been a time we have had this few experienced senior players. It makes no sense in a season we knew we would play more games.
I’m wondering if Ange’s naivety at this level alongside the boards famous Penny pinching tactics have given us this perfect storm.

Our lack of homegrown club trained players is also killing us in Europe.
We can’t currently maximise the 25 man squad depth in that Comp. So we do have to be quite clever with who we loan / buy and leave off the EL squad.

We’ve also culled the squad of overpaid, average players leaving just a few to go - Werner, Bissouma and Johnson.

I do think Ange has to take responsibility for injuries. He didn’t rotate enough until he had to - players like Spence, Gray even Austin should have come in much sooner for Europa League to allow players like VDV, Romero, Vic, Porro and Solanke midweeks off (I know the positions don’t fully line up but it’s just a quick example)

The team is definitely not in a better place than last year.
The team still look under coached, poor in defence and, struggle to keep the ball and find passes to each other.
Performance levels overall are wank, that is with a fully fit squad, Results are the same, apart from the occasional good result it's largely been uninspiring .
Not sure what Tottenham team people are watching, unless it's re-runs of teams of yesteryear.

So we’re not better.

No we haven’t.

No it’s not.

He was talking about the club in totality, not the team (hence he said all areas)...can you guys stop being thick for one day, please.

Wrong timing to make the claim but I hear what you are saying.

The medical and Sports Science dept is finally being modernized (that Scott prick was there for 20 years FFS)

The academy kids are finally coming through at a higher level (Moore, Olusesi, Williams-Barnett, Hall etc)

We didn’t have Solanke before, we do now.

Our recruitment in general is hitting more than it misses (Kinsky the latest).

Ange probably went a bit too bullish saying that right now but it might sound less mental by the end of February

Was pretty much how I remembered it. My take on it was his emphasis being that his focus is only on the players and the staff at the club and to convince them his approach was the right one. If they have his belief, then we can be a success. Anything or anyone outside of that is irrelevant and it’s just noise. Not pleasant to him necessarily, but just noise.

That could be taken to mean he includes fans as being irrelevant I guess, which is not a good look, even if he is just referring to the noisy or disgruntled fans. Others might read it differently, but that was the impression I got and that he is aware of the ever increasing noise. I wasn’t impressed.
Bit arrogant to think his belief will lead to success in England?

I just watched the embargoed bit of the press conference and he seems very calm, he’s not coming across as a manager under any pressure whatsoever. Surely if we lose Sunday he won’t have a leg to stand on but I couldn’t say with any certainty he’ll be sacked if we do. I just think the team lacks so much whoever is playing and that won’t differ.

But this is where giving the squad zero help makes no sense as well.

They all just seem content to bumble along.

Then we need to write off judging him for the rest of the season because we will have injuries the rest of the season.

Lets cherry pick which games we judge him on to only the ones he has won.

Lets just wait and judge him when he gets a perfect storm and the team is allowed to press like mad men again and get a big win.

Lets put our fingers in our ears and pretend we are not just 8 points above the relegation zone because Ange Postecoglou has had too many injuries. That does not buy in that to the narrative that we have a coach that has rewrote the way football is played. That this genius has 1 more point than AVB did when he got sacked. The genius that has managed 3 more losses than either Mourinho or Conte.
I like how the then number of injuries is now concentrated on the goalie and 2CBs. We were shite with them as a whole. Our starting forwards and midfielders have all been available bar the odd game or two missed. And we have only lost Solanke and Johnson in the last week or so. I think this injury narrative some our using is going to sleepwalk the club into a relegation battle. Yes players are over played but that is on Ange to rotate where he can and he hasn’t. I see salah play play virtually every game. If love to see the minutes played and running stats of our players compared to other teams. Also the reason we haven’t been able to get top 8 in the Europa is we didn’t get the results earlier.
