most clubs play second stringers in the Carabao Cup
e.g. Villa, Brighton, Newcastle

Liverpool, City too.. both started multiple youth players and reserves.

But don’t say this, because facts being stated is wrong and we all have to pretend everyone takes this competition super duper serious (literally every elite coach says it shouldn’t exist) or feelings will be hurt.

They did that because the league cup is a fucking irrelevance to most teams, we’re taking it seriously because of how hard we’ve been clowned for lack of trophies whereas Villa get away with it despite a similar record.

Most clubs do not care about this competition.
honestly mate your amateur hour absolutist takes are fiction, it all seems to come naturally to you so maybe some community theatre would occupy your time a little more productively than your current parrotting on a game that seems to give you no joy at all, why the fuck do you bother with it?

Have Spurs ever made you jump for joy? Like ever?

I picture you more like this when we win...

I didn’t want this coach appointed, don’t have any faith or particularly stand by him in any way and won’t lie to myself or others whilst the man is here.

You’re an Ange fanboy who joined when he got appointed and probably has posters of him on your walls because you’re (wrongly) convinced he’s some kind of Aussie Messiah when really he’s just Graham Potter without the personal trainer.

It's not that deep and you don't know jack shit except what your anxiety riddled mind makes up for you

Then why are you so pressed that I don’t rate your idol? I get it man. You love him. He’s in your profile pic in some cool black & white picture and he’s got his fist up. And he says mate a lot. You guys love that.

I don’t have anxiety but cheers for the classless, flippant comment about mental health just because I disagree with you.

That wasn’t even about Spurs or City lmao, it was about Villa. They factually rotated their entire team because they factually don’t care much about it and nor do most teams. Nor do we a lot of the time. You can deal with that reality in whatever way you want.

If we’d lost against Coventry the worry would’ve been more on the performance than the result. The league cup isn’t all that meaningful to me as a competition.

We’re in it because we won a game. Do I think city took it very seriously? The two youth players at the heart of midfield probably says no, but I understand me saying this upsets you on some level. Sorry.

Sorry if I’m not jumping for joy. We lost the more meaningful game days before and now we have another one in a few days.

Postecoglou rotated 9 players last season in the first round- similar to Villa- and lost to Fulham. What were your thoughts about that?

Also the average age of City was older than the average age of Spurs in this game, and both managers rotated players.

It's not me it's you

I was probably mildly annnoyed at a rubbish performance and then quickly got over it because ultimately, it’s the league cup. I don’t think it should exist. I’m on record with that long before we beat City.

Average age is very deceiving. They have older players than us in general, we’re a very youthful team. They had 3 academy lads starting to our zero, they had no actual striker and our lineup resembled our first choice team a lot more than theirs did.

None of which changes the fact that beating any City side is good. They obviously still had lots of talent on the field. We did loads of things really well. But there’s a boatload of context hovering over the game and I’m not viewing it as redemption until we see some sort of consistency in league games.

That's fair. I agree the team is to inconsistent. Its common that young players are inconsistent.

The question then is who's fault is it? The manager, the players, or both.

I really like Pep's quote: “My job is taking you to the final 3rd and your job is to finish"

Is it the managers fault Werner misses 19 out of 20 chances in the final third? Johnson and Richarlison are better finishers, but only marginally, and Son isn't the player he was even 12 months ago.

Or that a world cup winning CB plays as if he DNGAF? Or EPL-standard defenders are caught out ball watching?

I just don't think the solution is as simple as sacking the manager.

Exactly. Ange has got us playing excellent football, and by all accounts has created an excellent atmosphere in the dressing room. We have a young, and in some cases inexperienced squad, and those players are going to make mistakes. We can't expect to refresh our entire squad and immediately within 2 seasons be a top winning team. If Ange; and our best players stay with the club, I'd fully expect us within 2 seasons to be challenging for the title. Now is not the time to abandon it and start over.

I'd encourage everyone to go and read interviews with Jan after the Champions League loss. A great insight into the real mind of a footballer. He talks about suffering crippling anxiety, mood swings, lethargy after a head injury some games prior that continued for months. He couldn't wait for the final to be over, and just wanted to get off the pitch.

For all his criticism, Mourinho came in an immediately identified a burnt out mess of a squad. He relaxed the training, and focused on personal relationships. This did translate to good results; but injuries and covid ruined any chance for him to build something decent. It was never a long term plan; it was an attempt by the club to try and get a trophy out of Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Son whilst they were still with the club.
