And now since we've won a trophy you're saying the complete opposite :gallashmm:

I like the footballing part of winning a trophy when it's well played, I don't much like a trophy at the end of a shitty season such as the one last year, it reminds me of 22 loses and an awful match against a very shitty Manchester United team. IMO there's nothing to like about that, even if it has gained a trophy and ticked a box in the actually point of football.

Is there something in that which is difficult to understand for you? If so ask a supplementary question and I'm happy to answer but I don't want to continue arguing about Postecoglou. I don't mind a discussion about how the trophy reminds me of an awful season, rather than a great one.

One last thing, you do know two things can be true right?

Is it normal behaviour to seek out; click into, and then post on a thread that you consider a "waste of time"? :frankconfused:

Anyway. 37 pages to go. Fitting for a manager whose second last game for us was winning our first European Trophy in 40 years. Bilbao anniversary will be huge - especially if De Zerbi can somehow get us out of the mess Derangers got us into. COYS!

I guess you prioritize a respectable result in the League more than a cup win?

Well I suppose I'd reword that as I'd enjoy watching a great football match over a crap one, regardless if the players are going to be seen lifting a trophy and celebrating on a bus. Of course though my preference would be a great cup win after a good season like one of the ones under Burkenshaw when we came 4th and won the FA Cup, handsomely. That's the sort of trophy that I can think about and have good memories about.

I suppose another way of putting it is I preferred watching the team and have fonder memories around 2016/17 sort of era more than I enjoyed watching during 2024/25 sort of era, even though the latter provided a trophy. The trophy that it provided reminds me of an awful season. It did achieve the point of being in the Europa League competition but the league form that season was a total misery.

Funnily enough there was an article on the BBC website recently that asked that exact question:
Survival or FA Cup glory - which would you choose?
Pretty much every Wigan fan they spoke too (and loads more in the comments section below) said the same thing: they wouldn't dream of swapping the FA Cup for staying in the Premier League.

I must admit I think I would feel the same. Maybe not for the FA Cup, but I would have been perfectly happy getting relegated this season if we'd manage to win the Champions League as well.

The game's supposed to be about glory isn't it? There's not much glory in being perpetual also-rans.
Once again, if you are competing at the the top end of the stick, with a good squad, you are more likely to win things.

Doing a Wigan, coz the squad is shit, happens once every few decades...

I really don't want to wait another 40 years winning something other than a sporadic League Cup.

And Wigan fans would say that, they ain't a Spurs, ManU, etc etc...

It would be catastrophic for us if we go down.

Well hindsight is a wonderful thing and all that but Wigan are hanging around the bottom half of league one now, They have a fond memory of winning an FA Cup. A moment of glory in the club's history.

They may have been able to establish themselves like Brighton and a couple of other teams have, if they hypothetically swapped their Cup win for avoiding relegation.

Ironically Brighton secured promotion to the Premier League after a 2–1 win against Wigan in 2017. Then again I don't recall Brighton ever winning a cup, though i'd rather be in their position than Wigan's.

I'd happily swap the Europa League trophy if it mean avoiding relegation this season, without a second of hesitation. For me the most important thing is to not get relegated and the second most important thing is to win the Premier League, the latter is something that isn't going to happen playing football like last season or this. the former is bang on form (for relegation).

Frank's overall winning percentage is a whopping 34.2%. Which, apparently is the worst of any permanent Spurs manager.
If temporary managers are excluded yes.

Apparently in the last (and only) 38 games under Frank the team won 13,

I've counted on this website linked below and it seems like Postecoglou's team won 14 matches from his last 38, so he's hardly any better.

It's a pointless debate and just passes the time of day though. The main thing is we put those times of doom behind us and move on.

"Winning Trophies is all that matters UNLESS it's won by a manager I don't like" perfectly sums up the Deranger mindset :D
