Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It would help if Conte wasn't trying to fit square pegs in round holes, he needs to be more flexible with his tactics instead of the rigidity of wing backs

GOAT GOAT In there with maybe the world's fastest ever disagree. Fair play.

The reality is, we have terrible squad, and i said it in the summer. But "experts" on here were explaining me, how we will be great, how we beat this or that team, and with this and that player we will be beating everyone and will challenge for the title, with spending just over 100m. for once in a decade.
And when i said people are delusional and this shows how much they know of football, you were putting me X-s.

And yeah it turns out i was right.

We need 2 top CB, right quality WB, left quality Winger, that is very technical and can dribble pass opponents with ease. We also need top creative CM, to play the role of a playmaker. We also need a top new GK.
We also need to get rid of a lot of players and replace them.

This team is crying for a rebuild for quite some time.
People live in the past, both Kane and Son are past it. Most of our players are dreadful.

If we want even just top 4, we need to spend every summer/winter quite a lot. Otherwise good luck.

The whole new manager with a project manager b.c. is just that, a pile of horse ******.
Didn't people on here swear at Potter ???? And wanted him as a project manager. That ***** can't even get Chelsea to top 4 yet, and he had like 10x pricier team than us, and they spend HUGE money in the summer + they have a lot stronger team than US.

People that wants Conte gone are terrible fangirls that have no clue of football. Every team have bad moments.
Guardiola finished 3rd in his first season with City, and Klopp barely finished 4th. But he missed Top 4, when he comes to Liverpool at the middle of the season, Conte manages to get it with us.
The rest is history for Klopp and Pep.
Forgive me for being a bit confused but I would have thought that the definition of a fangirl would be more akin to someone who, because of their undying loyalty to Conte, can’t look at the situation with any kind of objectivity and won’t allow those true Spurs fans to raise legitimate concerns about some aspects of his management without flying into some hissy fit. You know, the kind of person who joins the forum shortly after their idol joins the club and adopts his name as part of their forum username
Do you know anyone like that?………

He’s been here just over a year .. just over a year.. and hasn’t completed a full season.

The lack of patience from some of you is what is wrong with the world today.

I’ve been avoiding this forum for a while since the embarrassing comments made during the match against Marseille and I can see that very little has changed.

4th in the league, 1st in the Champions League group, reached top 4 last season against all the odds. I was disappointed by our performance against Forest but shit happens and I believe in Conte’s vision. The man is laying a foundation to build from, the style of play is a reflection of his desire to create a team strong defensively.

My only reservations when he came were that he was another short-term fix & whether we were the kind of club who would give him the backing he needs.

Jury is still out, I think. For me anyway.

I think we're prepared to back him but it's a two-way street (see commitment) and I think that's resulted in a slight game of poker between him & Levy. I think if he puts pen to paper then we'll then take a hit on many of the players he's exiled (Like we did at the end of Poch's first season) and complete the rebuild that we're still only 2/3s of the way through.

(Would there be endless fan-bickering about the individual players bough/sold/stays, yeh, but fuck all that for the purposes of what we're talking about here.)

Conte is here for 15 million reasons and will probably not tolerate being lied to. Conte is not here to develop Bryan Gil, Royal or Spence. He would have probably prefered a 45 - 70 million first choice RWB to rotate with Doherty instead of project players whose joint wages and transfer fees amount to the same thing.

Spurs incoming transfers under ENIC have been glorified spread betting since 2001. Every now and then the accumulator throws up a Carrick, Berbatov, Modric and a Bale. The well ran dry once Levy fired Paul Mitchell and hired Hitchen. Eriksen, Toby and others ran their contracts down to prevent the 'hostage situation' that previously prevailed with the aforementioned quartet.

Levynomics has been rumbled and run it's course.

We're only half way on the re-build and that is conditional to Son and Kane staying and some of the younger players stepping up.

This is a big job. Is Conte really the man to take it on?

If Kane & Son stay, we're 3 starters short. That's less than half a team...... 3/11

Doing so in turn strengthens the bench...... and by default sends a few out the door. Add a few more improvements to the bench and it's done.

Deoends if you rate him or not, but it's not as big as you're making out.... We've bought a LOT of players in the last couple of seasons.

I listed Romero, Perisic, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Kulusevski, Son and Kane as being the only 7 players who are truly reliable in their respective roles within the team. That is if we are serious about winning things and competing in the CL.

We need 4 more like these for the starting 11. The debate then becomes about whether some of our other players are good enough to be rotated within a squad.

Tell me who is good enough from the best of the rest to fill the squad places?

By the time we rebuild, these two will be toast. Especially son.

This summer will be extremely pivotal. I can’t see Kane signing a new contract unless we make a respectable CL run and get top 4 again. And we probably need to sell him or risk him walking away for free and losing 60m.

If i had to predict where we will be 2-3 years from now, it’ll be 6th or 7th. We keep thinking short term only and are about to lose our 2 best players to age and contract.

You've entered into the territory I am heading.

It's more likely that we get a Poch type manager, or Poch, to manage the likes of Spence, Skipp, Gil, Sarr, etc than give Conte wheelbarrows full of money for his salary and players for now.

That is if ENIC hang around.

That's why he intrigued me when coming here...... Anyone that can't boast that isn't of much use to us.
I think the other thing a spurs manager needs is to develop younger players. We have to rely on developing players because we can’t outspend our rivals.

In the poch era, everyone says we had great talent, etc… but almost none of them were amazing when we bought them. Eriksen, vertonghen, Walker, dembele (who was bought as an attacking midfielder), son, rose, dele… all of these players were raw when we bought them and we developed them. Poch played a big part in that.

We aren’t seeing young players develop anymore.

Not gonna bicker over merely 1 player..... 2/3rds.... 3/5ths... Whatever.

There will always be flux and residue at the bottom end of the pecking order....... A so-called "completed" rebuild won't eradicate that outright.

I sense you're steering us towards the unrealistic utopian expectation of 25 top players, but I think the current City squad is the closest any EPL team has come close to that and that's an unprecedented financial echelon.

Tell me who is good enough from the best of the rest to fill the squad places?

Pre-summer 2023 view.

Hugo
(Forster, Whitman)

XXX / Romero / XXX / XXX / Perisic
(Dier, Davies)
(Udogie, Spence...... Or keep Doherty if Spence goes on loan.)

PEH / B'cur
(Skipp, Bissouma, Sarr)

Kulu / Kane / Son
(Richarlison, Gil..... Maybe one of Parrot or Scarlett?)

= 22/23 players.

Sell:
Emerson, Sanchez, Tanganga, Lucas , Sessengon
+ those currently on loan (and as above, maybe Doherty).
