Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Gray is a punt plus plus - since he hadn’t started a single game in the EPL when we got him in the summer. He’s not a punt punt like Oddobert or Bergvall but he’s still a punt. He’s certainly not an established player - He’s a punt that hopefully comes good. You can tell by the wages.

Buying established players and paying them established player wages isn’t Levy’s style (unless he think he thinks he’s taking advantage of relegation side Leceiater/Maddison).

Wages:

Punt Plus Plus

Gray - 75K per week

Straight Punts

Oddobert - 25K per week
Bergvall - 15 per week

Best Chairman in the Galaxy

125K per week
So is he a punt or a punt punt?

Pardon the pun(t)

No idea. But I'd seriously doubt Gray ends up as good as Busquets because that's not how talent development works.

Development of young players isn't linear. Gray is doing brilliantly and is well ahead of the curve. Happy to just let him get games (hopefully more in his actual position) and hopefully continues to progress. I definitely wouldn't be shocked if he didn't end up as England's 6 because a million things could change between now and then and he's very far off it.
How do we even know he's a 6 when most of his senior football has come at RB?

I actually think he'll make a great CB. Not sure he is press-resistant enough with his back to goal for a 6.

Kinda similar to Rice. Maybe he's more suited to an up and down 8 (he even states this is his best position).

sadly retired now

but certainly he left as Spurs manager at least a year too soon imo - but majority of Spurs fans wanted him out as he wasn't bringing instant success (even though his 2 5th places were Spurs best placing in almost 20 years back in about 2005), they didn'' like his subs ..........
By chance I watched the 2005-2006 Season Review on YouTube a couple of nights ago. Rather good editing by the production crew really made that Jol side stand out, but also I seem to myself remember BMJ’s team being excellent, but the loss of Carrick was hard to overcome.

Back on topic, Archie Gray will be a Top player. No doubt at all about that.

2005-06 Spurs were (unexpectedly to put it mildly) 4th continually from Christmas through to the last day of the season ... and then Lasagegate pushed us into 5th place.

Carrick sale (bought £4m sold circa £17m) gave us the funds to buy Berbatov for £11m who was a top player for us plus some change for other players ....... obviously I'd have preferred to keep Carrick. our best player in that 05/06 side but he was pushing to go to ManU.

Gray will be a top player for sure .... but he's a good player even now, and very versatile

18 , feck me , I was dipshit at that age .
This kid is going to be something extra with a couple of seasons of PL football behind him .
His composure isn't really something that you can teach , especially at that age .
Will just keep getting better .

I barely noticed him tonight.

Which means, given the position he was asked to play, he absolutely fucking nailed it.

Dragusin was the far more pro-active of the two and more likely to break out of the back line to engage the oppo (like you'd expect Romero to be); but in those moments when you then scan for Archie, his positioning in relation to Radu was always where you wanted him.....

He's a smart cookie.

He's turning out to be a Swiss Army Knife for our squad.

It's just a shame that we haven't really gotten a chance to see him in his preferred position. But you can never complain about a player that can step in a bit wherever and deliver acceptable performances.

Why not just use him once for Bissouma at CM when everyone is healthy? The guy so far out some decent performances on every position he was asked to play. Let's see him at CM.

My concern is he will be cast as defender and we never get to see him play CM. With a run of games at CM, he might be the missing piece we've been looking for in ages. His demeanor and calmness might allow him to help the team to control pace, rhythm of the game.

Agree- we don’t want to “Dier”ize him- it’s fine to occasionally play players out of position, but it seems you can really screw them up playing in other positions for long period of time.

Dier played #6 and CB for England and in his prime we could have sold him for 50-60m, which is 70-80 in todays money.

I know it didn’t end as well but he’s probably a club legend and when he wins something with Bayern, he’ll have had a wonderful career.

I think Gray has an even higher ceiling but let’s not act like it’s a bad career path to follow. And as I keep saying, Rice was a CB at 18 and I don’t even know if he was playing in the prem yet.
