Competition Are we playing for 5th ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don’t think we can answer this until the window closes

How things are after the start we've made. 5th should be completely in our sights. Itpp all depend on how ambitious Levy is with the next 6-7 days.

Absolutely no doubt if we can get 2 minimum in of good quality that it should be our aim. If we don't we struggle to piece teams together again when injuries inevitably occur.

If we weren't in Europe, prioritised the league over the domestic cups, so circa 41/2 games, then sure. But we have CL and games twice a week. We don't have anything like the depth required right now for a full season playing like this. So no, I don't think we are. 8th as it stands with the squad would be a pretty good season imo.

Peculiar thread title
I'd like to think we're playing for first, particularly if the games against PSG and city are indicative of our potential.

If we can keep the core of the team healthy and rotate in players against the lesser teams like the 3 promotion sides, Spam, wolves etc I'd say we can surprise a lot of people.

Are loans firm contracts, or can we pull the plug on them and drag players back if we have a high body count on the injury list?

No we're not "playing" for the 5th, if it's meant to imply that anything worse would amount to a failure of a league campaign.

Posted this in another thread:
Based on historical trends, conceding less than 50 will virtually guarantee a top 10 finish. This should be very doable with this group of players.

And unless the attack ends up being absolutely terrible, I'm talking about "a goal per game" levels of bad here, I'm reasonably certain that we can climb a few more ladders inside top 10.

I think most people here would gladly take a top 7-8 finish this season after last year's utter mess of a league campaign.

We definitely need some reinforcement up front, but this math concerning how many goals and assists we've lost in between Maddison, Son and Kulusevski doesn't tell the whole story. That team shipped 65 goals.

From the current group of players, Solanke [only 9 league goals in a team that scored 64 last season] and Odobert [only 1 goal in an injury ridden season] are the obvious candidates to step up and replace some of what we've lost from the aforementioned three. And Kudus obviously.

A top 7-8 finish seems quite realistic, all things considered.

Playing for 2nd or 3rd is more realistic imo..I don't think we're quite up to Liverpool standard but we can certainly beat Chelsea and Woolwich. Definitely a CL place...

No...I'm not...I think under frank with hopefully no injuries it's a real possibility. Where's yer optimism?
It’s not about being optimistic, it’s about realism . Of course we are going to get injuries . If we had signed 4 players to go straight into the starting 11 I may have agreed with you but we haven’t. The manager has been let down which most of us knew he would be. It’s been an awful transfer window.
Anything from 7th/ 10th will be a major improvement .

Unbeaten in the league.

No goals conceded.

Beaten the best team in the league in 2025 at their place. Stroll in the park for Thomas’ lads.

We have Brazils number 9 as our CF.

It’s very clear we are playing for the title. If we throw it away from this position of supreme strength it will be a travesty!!

We have to be realistic though. At the moment, we look like the 5th or 6th best side in the League.
It's so early that any sort of predictions can be way off. So far the top teams have shown inconsistency already. LFC looking vulnerable v Bmouth, then blowing a 2-0 lead v 10 man Barcodes. Who didn't look anything special at Villa, who certainly aren't great. City being got at by us and not looking great v Wolves to start with. Chavs very average at home to Palace. Goons a bit lucky to get a win at misfiring MU.

We're not a top team really right now. We finished 17th last season, lost 22 in the PL, missing creative midfielders through injury, an uninspiring window so far Kudus notwithstanding.

AFC have to hope Gyokeres will score them goals. No guarantee. CFC have to hope they can break down low blocks. That manager? Not his skill set. LFC dont look great defensively. NUFC have to sort out their striker issue. Spurs have to get more cover in MF, our squad is paper thin as we saw with PSG coming back to draw.

I still think City are the team to finish ahead of to win the PL.
