FIFA speaks! And says absolutely fuck all, nothing to do with us, guv.

"FIFA regrets...." is right up there with the lamest cop outs of all time, as if what happened has nothing to do with them.

Money-grubbing wankers.

-----------------------------------------------------

In a statement following Sunday’s extraordinary events, Fifa said: “Fifa regrets the scenes preceding the suspension of the match between Brazil and Argentina for the Conmebol qualifiers of the Fifa World Cup 2022 which prevented millions of fans from enjoying a match between two of the most important football nations in the world.

“The first match official reports have been sent to Fifa. This information will be analysed by the competent disciplinary bodies and a decision will be taken in due course.”

Speaking on Monday, the Fifa president, Gianni Infantino, appeared to lament the inflexibility of some governments in not allowing players quarantine exemptions. The UK was among those to reject Fifa’s plea for a lenient approach to footballers in this international break.

“We have been trying since last year to find compromises, to find agreements with clubs, with countries, with governments,” Infantino said. “We have been given assurances by some governments. Some of these assurances were respected. Others were not of course. We are living in a particular situation, so we need to take this into account.”

Referring to events in São Paulo he said: “It’s crazy, but we need to deal with these challenges, we need to deal with these issues which come on top of the Covid crisis.”

Tottenham angry at Lo Celso and Romero for travelling with Argentina

According to this journalist. The current Conmebol protocol states that the players could have stayed in Brazil for 72 hours and would then have to leave. And the CBF could have applied for extensions.

Argentina flew in to Brazil 3 days before the game. Which would mean that UK 4 had overstayed their welcome by the time of kick off.

Commebol is simply a football body - and like FIFA thinks it can do anything (hence why over 50% of one of FIFA's previous executive committee members are in jail on various corruption charges thinking laws did not apply to them)

Brazil government sets immigration rules.

Might have been good if FIFA, Commebl and Argentinian FA had read the immigration law - maybe latter did as apparently false information (not been in UK for 14 days) put into immigration papers

In the midst of all this talk of the Brazilian FA, Argentinian ditto, Comnebol, and Fifa being incompetent and/or money grabbing cunts (which is probably all true, mind), let's not forget that the English FA and FA's across Europe plus UEFA, and most notably clubs including our own, all insisted on carrying on with CL and EL across borders, when the pandemic (on an European & global scale) was much more out of control. In fact, while nearly all the countries involved and their citizens were in various degrees of lockdown.

There's plenty of blame to go around, and long list of incompetent parties. Including our players, but - for the crime of wanting to represent their nation - our players are well, well down that list imo.

It's not a South American issue, or even a Fifa issue. It's a(nother) football's become a greedy, nasty machine issue imho.

For the avoidance of doubt, I entirely agree that the English footballing authorities, UEFA etc are also incompetent money-grubbing wankers.

But I don't believe they were directly involved in the South American World Cup qualifiers clusterfuck.

The first game of a glorious 8 year spell with Tanguy as a Ball Playing Defender. Nutmegging opposition strikers not once, but twice on the edge of our box.

We'd better no go through all this nonsense again in a month's time.
