Perhaps now FIFA will get their shit together, recognise the shitstorm the world is in right now and postpone or organise suitable fixtures.

Oooooo look, a flying pig...

Much easier said than done. The world cup is only 1 year away... and there are a lot of games to get through.

So it's understandably hard to postpone fixtures like this, just because certain countries are on the red list.

However.. they could have arranged it to take place in a neutral venue or something. And the Argentinian FA should have known the implications with players joining from red list countries.

Amazing that Brazil could miraculously host the Copa America with minimum notice or organisation. Now they are all sanctimonious over 4 players. Their own president and government officials have broken every covid rule going.
Dodgy cunts

According to this journalist. The current Conmebol protocol states that the players could have stayed in Brazil for 72 hours and would then have to leave. And the CBF could have applied for extensions.

Argentina flew in to Brazil 3 days before the game. Which would mean that UK 4 had overstayed their welcome by the time of kick off.

I don't blame Romero and Lo Celso at all to be honest. To argies, as it should be to everyone in the world, getting invited to play for the NT is the biggest privilege in the world, and the proudest moment for any football player. This is all on FIFA, CONMEBOL, The Argentinian FA and the Brazil authorities. How fucking inept can the brazillian authorities be?
"The players lied about where they were previously". WELL YOU COULD'VE MADE 2 SECONDS OF RESEARCH YOU DUMB IDIOTS ! They're public figures, Romero and Lo Celso played for Spurs before, HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW THAT THEY JUST CAME FROM ENGLAND??? How could the Argentinian FA not know that they needed to be quarantined? It's all a complete farce, and it's Spurs (and Villa) who suffer the consequences through no fault of their own...
we allowed them to go...thats a fault right there.

Eh? so how did the other clubs bar us and Villa with South American players enforce it?

Good will of the players/other national teams presumably...

Hence Brazil were rightfully pissed (having accepted the absence of a number of players and the prospect of fielding a weakened team) when FIFA flipped their stance and came down hard on the rules; insisting players HAD to report for int. duty on the eve of the int. break.

The other clubs were willing to take the punishments from Fifa and play the "bad guy" against the players.

The Argentine national team also seems to have a special amount of pull right now with the up coming world cup. What with it being Messi's last dance.

We had the opportunity to enforce it and we chose not to.
I accept the majority of the blames lies with FIFA and the Argentinian FA but nobody from spurs noticed they would be breaching Covid protocols either.

Can you reference/expand on this suggestion?
"Guys with current Covid guidelines we have discovered that you would be breaching covid protocol that is in place in Brazil therefore we are refusing to allow you to join up with the Argentinian squad"

"Guys with the current Covid guidelines we have discovered that you would be breaching covid protocol that is in place in Brazil therefore we are allowing you to play the first game but due to the guidelines we expect you to return before the Brazil game to start your 10 day isolation period".

They were already released for the previous fixture that took place in Venezuela..... We were obliged to release them for international duty; period. Where and when they travel from there is out of our hands and in under the jurisdiction of Arg FA & FIFA.
