Has had a good run after investing over 200 mill in to the squad and suddenly he's a really good manager. May well be the case but people's opinions turn so quickly! Ole was great not that long ago according to the media and now he's awful again.

No one is saying he is great but he is in the same ball park as those I have mentioned unless you think he isn't.

Lesser squad to the top 4 so can he add the value that takes his group of players beyond the talent?

Valid unless the point is too complex to comprehend.

The point isn't complex .. I just disagree he's even slightly earned the right to be compared to Conte or even Rodgers. He got 200m in investment (and a decent amount the season before) but he's only just put together a winning run. Adding value? They have some elite academy talent rated for years coming through and he spent a huge wedge. They're about where they should be.

That after a very long time underachieving at the club. If he finishes top 4 this season you can say he's added value, for now he's just having a good run of form.

Really errrr looking errr forward errr to errrrr Steven errrr Gerrard's errrrrr first errrrr press errrrr conference errrr in errrrbout 10 errrrr minutes errrrrr time.

If he does well you know that Liverpool will swoop for him one day. Which is obviously his intention with going to Villa. He wants to become Prem proven.

But there's a big risk, if he flops he may have tanked his chances at the Liverpool job.
If he flops he has certainly tanked his chances at the Liverpool job. But if he’s not good enough to improve Villa he knows he’s not good enough to even think of Liverpool.

I think Gerrard has taken a risk but he probably has to. He has done brilliant with Rangers but Rangers are a good team and now set to compete with Celtic again long term after their collapse a decade or so ago.

It won’t simply be results Liverpool will judge on but team style and performance. He won’t be expected to win anything with Villa and their team and mid table or higher and keeping them away from relegation will be an achievement. He will however need to show he can improve players and play a front football clever style of football because that will be the main requirement of a top club.

You can look at Moyes at West Ham. They have done well, but they still play low block boot it forward and bully at corners football. That is great for West Ham and their fans but wouldn’t be accepted by Liverpool. If Gerrard does a Potter and shows he can build a stylish team greater than the sum of their parts then being a Liverpool legend he will most likely get the shot once Klopp leaves. His brand of football is what he needs to show the most for the Liverpool role.

And any proper judgement comes at the end of the season.

I think it's largely irrelevant whether he has earned the right or not.

I am simply outlining what I think is both the ask and the assessment of those 4 or 5 managers beneath the 4 best squads.

It's such a difficult one for him to get right IMO, they are on form a genuine candidate to go down this year, so agree it's a risk for him. But equally, I think they signed some good players in the summer and their squad should be doing better than where they are now, so I can also see the upside. If he gets them performing the way Smith did early last season then the upside is big (there would be more of an impact for him than Smith just because of his name).
