We had Dragusin as first choice backup at CB but we were also playing Europa League football and had no LB backup, either we were keeping Davies as a utility player to cover both positions and feature in quite a few competitions or our squad planning was horrific. I'd have no problem if we were keeping him around as a good figure for the dressing room, to feature in the (very) odd game, but under this ownership we don't do that, we sign players on because we want them to feature. I can guarantee you Davies will play at least 15-20 games next season, he'll play key games either in the Champions League, or derbies, or cup games. These kinds of decisions where we keep players for far to long has repeatedly bitten us on the ass over the past few years.

Never let us down in term of attitude and professionalism for sure. He’s a model pro.
But he was our 2nd choice left back nearly a decade ago and he’s still here clinging onto a squad place. Why aren’t we able to replace him with a better younger option? That’s what proper football clubs do.
This isn’t a charity, he’s not good enough. He should be thanked for his service and moved on for a better player.

yep, this goes deeper than just having a better player to bring on or use in matches, it raises standards in training too which is huge.

He is an awful left back in the modern game and an extremely average LCB. If we ever have to rely on him we are cooked. Also doesn’t have a great injury record.
Very likeable bloke, dependable squad player at his best and good professional. Let him see out his career at Preston or in the MLS if he fancies it and then bring him back as a coach. Don’t fucking keep him on wasting a squad spot.

On a serious note, I reckon he’d be a good coach. Hope he goes down that path. Would quite like to see him either finish his career with us after this next season and then start a youth coaching role or go to a Welsh club for a year or two then do that and eventually come back to us in a coaching role.
I don’t mind people preferring he move on. I understand that.
What I do mind is the odd poster slagging him off. Been a very good player for the club during his time with us, and every squad needs a Ben Davies.
Clearly been a positive influence on the younger players, as highlighted by the likes of Gray.

He had some decent performances for sure, he's not expected to start but he isn't a bad player, like I said as 3rd choice in both it really isn't an issue in my opinion
