The entire Italian economy was left in the dust starting in the 90's, and Italian football along with it.
Mind you Milan were massive until 2008 or so (and won the league in 2010 I think). but then they just collapsed, and it wasn't an Italian thing as Juve, Roma, and such continued to be top clubs.
