- central attacking pivot for the system which is vital in how Ange plays

- is a reliable goal scorer of chances created although not a player that creates chances out of thin air (eg Son)

- presses brilliantly and we play higher than almost anyone

- dominate in the air so will help out defensively as well as attack

To some degree Richarlison (when fit!!!) fixes a lot of this but does seem clear Ange’s system needs an actual centre forward.

Much as I love Son and much as Kulusevski and Maddison can also play false 9 that should only be for certain games tactically, Ange’s system needed a proper 9.

Look at the Liverpool game, 4-0 down, Richy comes on and we start to play well because our balance is fixed, we score 2 yes but there is now structure. I hate Werner-Son-Johnson combo not because of the players but because the balance is wank. There is no focal point or ball retention.

agree with a lot of this. richy is not a good enough footballer. he would work if the wide players could get him sufficient box service but we dont have that, so a new striker is the quickest patch up.

would be interesting to watch a front 3 of richy, solanke and kulu in games against sides pinned in.
 
Amazing it was the sun back in December that broke the story we were after him. Thought they didn’t get much right nowadays. Although I suspect Hercules will claim it was him!

I feel this is going to be a great signing. Scores a wide variety of goals, presses well and has power and pace. Add to that that Ange clearly likes his character which is where Toney was a question…
 
Really happy with this signing, was hoping for either Toney or him so to get one through the door before the start of the season is great. He had such a brilliant season last year so I hope that continues with us, nice early goal to get away any nerves and then a top season hopefully. Great piece of business.
