Match Doncaster [H] 19:45 wed 24-09-2025 League Cup 3rd Round

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Kolo Muani played about 15 mins v Villareal for about 15 mins, not looking completely fit (hadn't played since June when he played for Juventus inn World Club Cup and hardly had a preseason with PSG) so although he might have recovered from a 'dead leg' I can't see him playing more than about 30 mins v Doncaster as he ramps up his fitness.

Odobert played as a 10 a few times for Burnley and did so for Spurs last season once or twice.

So to rest as many players as possible, we could have a forward line of :

Johnson, Odobert, Tel
Scarlett
I'd also have Sarr in CM as he can run forward into opposition box almost as a false 10 (Odobert too lightweight to do that)- so complete team

Kinsky
Spence, Romero, Danso, Davies
Sarr, Gray Davies
Johnson, Odobert, Tel
Scarlett

Subs : Austin, and 8 other players from Porro, Udogie, Van de Ven, , Palhinha, Bentancur, Bergvall, Simons, Kolo Muani, Kudus, Richarlison - maybe Takai as well ?

Spurs u21's play Plymouth in Vertu Ttophy (ex EFL Trophy) on Tuesday evening, so we will know then if any of the best u21's are possibly rested to play Doncaster, although I doubt it

Take the game really really seriously. Get ahead by 2 or 3 if possible.

Once comfortable, and nearing the last 10 minutes......

Frank will know that losing any cup game because of complacency would be stupidity.

I’ve not really got an issue with rotating in the league cup later rounds

I don’t want Kudus, Simons, VDV, Romero, Palinha or Sarr playing in ridiculous home and away legs during December/January if we still have a chance at the Champions League.

Clear list of priorities in order imo

League
Champions League
FA Cup
League Cup

If champions league or League are already dead by that time then it’s different.

But for now, I’d rotate but keep some first 11 guys in just so the team has chemistry. That should get us through. Then by QFs and onwards in the league cup, play fully rotated 11’s even if that means kids

Taking my 6 year old to this one for his first game at the stadium. So difficult and costly to go these days I'm really looking forward to this as he's been pestering me to go, will be great to see his face light up. I've told him he's going to be knackered at school the next day... hopefully the football / result is worth it 😆

Kinsky
Spence - Danso - Davies - Udogie
Gray
Sarr - Xavi
Johnson - Tel - Odobert
Assuming Muani isn't fit.

Yea, this seems reasonable lineup.
Though I would draw it as 4-2-3-1 with Sarr next to Gray, Xavi as #10 and Johnson-Odobert as wingers.

If Davies is not fit to start (he was out from Brighton squad), I'd go with Takai.
If Xavi needs more rest I'd be also OK with Odobert through the middle and Scarlett up top (if he is available).

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂you think our premier league players will get bullied by Doncaster players?. This will be a training game and it will be keep ball for us. It will be a rubbish watch with no intensity where we run out at least 3-0 winners.
Yes if we pick a really strong team. I hope Frank is sensible enough to avoid the mistakes of the past when we were arrogant enough to think the likes of Colchester would be blown over by 2nd teamers. Play your best team until the job is done and the game is won. Then bring on the subs.
