Ex-Spurs Player Emerson Royal

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Emerson produced another great DEF display, great tackling and tracking back, the run of games has helped his confidence for sure and looks more assured.

PS however going forward he still cant cross the ball to save his life

This.

he's good defensively, works his tail off. has pace to recover.

Just wish he was even average at crosses.

I forget the game (I think it was West Ham) where a series of events showed what he's capable of, and why we still get frustrated with him.

He was beaten by the attacker along the sideline, recovered with a great/clean slide tackle, got up and showed incredible effort and pace to beat 2 other players to the ball (after the tackle sent it 10 yards away) only for his next touch to gift it right back to the other team.

You love him one second and then just facepalm the next. But he's young, his attitude is right. I'm hopeful.

He can't cross, never will be able to consistently well in all likely. But he doesnt need to, to be effective in his roll.
He could develop to be a more direct attacking threat, using and his strength and pace to dart into the area and create overloads. Time is still very much on his side, Id have him in the side over Sessegnon right now who is only as year younger

In fairness, he’s played better crosses in the last 5 games than I’ve seen from him in the entirety of last season. So maybe there’s hope he’s getting better?

If not, he has his uses but we need a better attacking solution. The difference between him and Kulusevski was obvious.

His defensive work was vital yesterday as I’ve already said a few times.

Sorry completely disagree , his crossing is as bad as normal, his crossing has not improved its exactly the same, the DEF side as i mentioned in my original post he is doing well, looking solid more assured , putting in great shift and tackles no complaints there at all.

I can see why you think that but In my opinion, he’s played some crosses to actually dangerous areas that just didn’t quite come off.

An example is the one that sess and richarlison both went to the same spot and it went behind them… that’s not his fault… 2 players should not make the same run and space appropriately. Theres been a few others that surprised me too.

Perhaps I just have low expectations after last season but it seemed like it was just kick and pray last year. At least there’s some thought behind it now, even if his technique is lacking.

Emerson played well as a full back. Unfortunately Conte plays with wing backs and they are very important in his system. Emerson just cannot cross a ball accurately. How about Perisic at rwb. He is two footed and he can definitely cross a ball.
Can’t fault his effort. Same as a Sissoko really.

He's strong defensively, with pace & the fitness to recover even when caught up field.

Against shitty, his defensive work will be important.

But tonight, it was the correct decision from Conte to put Deki, a creative player, into the RWB / right flank attacking position once Marseille were down to ten men.
Agree, but think I’d have taken Romero off and sat Emerson RCB, his form is better. He has picked up on Richarlison and what his drive brings.

Read the room…

He‘s been very important in our seasons start, Conte clearly trusts him and he is both improving and showing great character (spirit and drive).

If Spence has the magic, he will fight him, but right now Emerson is rightly No.1 RWB. Against City 100% Emerson, and, likely every big game this season.

He is/does.... Don't doubt yourself.... Unfortunately some people are quickly and firmly wedded to their narrative and stick to it.

Compare to this time last year and every aspect of his game has improved....

Imagine that; a player in his early 20s getting better.
