Ex-Spurs Player Emerson Royal

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Why do people do this?

Perisic is quality, he WAS and may still be a world-class player. HE'S A BETTER PLAYER THAN ROYAL.

During the Wolves game however, Emerson played better than Perisic because he played the entire 90mins in an effective way. In the first half, he was our only really good player.

It's a 90 fucking minute game and against Wolves, his performance was 90mins of quality.

"he was our only really good player" - what? How? Why? what made him good?

Was he good on the attacking front, while we did create whopping 1 shot during 45 minutes?
Was he good on the defensive side, while we let Wolves have 12 shots on our goal?
Did Perisic let Wolves players score or was his flank massively exposed in first half? Cause I do not remember that.

Perisic made the difference while Royal was useless in the offensive side - and being useful there is large part of his job. And he failed in there. In first AND second half.

So Perisic performance was far better than Royals and it was not even close.
You can have a group of players that form a circle and pat eachother on back, confirming they "played well" but unchangable fact is - if we would replace Perisic with clone of Royal, we'd be sitting on 4 points as I am writing.

There was virtually no quality on the pitch in the first half against Wolves (other than Wolves!). Arguably, Royal was the least worst. How Wolves didn't go in ahead is a mystery.

Royal has improved (from his first shambolic 20 games) but I think you need to re-calibrate your superlatives. Quality indeed...
But he was our best player in the first half!!! That's the point.

He also hasn't been shambolic, he picked up flack when Conte didn't have any plan to play against a low-block defence other than to have our FB's lob crosses into a packed penalty box. He's I hope had time to work with our players on the pitch to avoid this against teams that play a narrow low-block. But make no mistake that was on Conte.

Those who slated him are uncomfortably shuffling about now, as is true every single season when they single out a player as their go-to scapegoat. As for those who were realistic in their player critique, as we do every single season, can gloat and watch the squirming and mental gymnastics being spun.

The TEAM were shite in the first half, kind of difficult for anyone to perform to some mythical performance that you are looking for!!

Just look at the halftime shouts in here, the only one getting praise was him, kind of accurately depicts the events of the first half, it's all you need to know.

His performance was better than Perisic's across the game, that's all. Perisic was good in the 2nd half (bar a couple of nice interplays) in the first half he was a ghost and if you are going to drop into the convo about Wolves having 12 rather tame efforts then he is ALSO part of that!

It seems your approach to giving MOTM awards only amounts to G/A contributions, this is utterly ridiculous but I do appreciate is very common practice these days with Facebook and Twitter fans who use Fantasy Football points as their barometer.

Wait, are you saying now

A: that fans are stupid and should not be able to vote on who is MoM
B: that fans are trustworthy and smart animals, because they gave Royal credit for the first half

Also in one post you state that nothing mythical nor special could not be expected from player (Royal) if team plays shit. And then later in the same post when Perisic did the same (nothing spectacular) in the same half - then his overall performance was worse than Royal performance?!?!

Very-very confusing.

And yes - in case you were wondering I can give you clear answer - if player from fullback position will win 3 points instead of 1 then this deserves more credit than running around a bit and having bigger number of tackles across 90 minutes. Yes. I do agree with this statement.

I'll tell you what fella crack on.....

I'm not going by statistics when I make this comment, but what I saw and felt on the day. My seat is pitch side, so I am more aware of players as they run up and down right in front of me. My feeling was that Emerson was our best player in the first half (not that's saying much, as we were pretty awful) and Ivan didn't do that much (which sparked my fear that he wouldn't be able to cope with 90 minutes of PL play). Second half, he put those doubts to bed, he was a machine and his play was first class.
I'll admit that I have a soft spot for Emerson, and he's not the best player out there, but he's not as bad as some people make him out to be, either.

Oh FFS, it is painful to watch his decisionmaking and deliveries in last 3rd... Really made me grab my head when he had room to put in a cross and it was grossly overhit so no one from Spurs came close..
What happened to Conte wanting attacking output from fullbacks?!?!

I really hope that Doherty/Spence will get chance in the midweek and we could see how this side looks with two fullbacks supporting attack.

So pleased to see him come off tonight. The Kulu sub worked a treat.
I totally understand why Conte keeps picking him because we don't lose when he plays but I feel like he is the cork in the champagne bottle.

He's strong defensively, with pace & the fitness to recover even when caught up field.

Against shitty, his defensive work will be important.

But tonight, it was the correct decision from Conte to put Deki, a creative player, into the RWB / right flank attacking position once Marseille were down to ten men.
