All he ever does is square it, does the same thing over and over. No creativity. Is this Rothko guy better than Dier?

It’s not that we don’t get it it, it’s that we find so much of it absurd. The problem with modern art is that it’s value is simply in his monetary value. Rothko’s work has been forged, extensively, with those forgeries selling for absurd prices to discerning eyes unable to tell his work from the forgery. There’s nothing specifically masterful about his works, they are very easy to replicate for other artists with little training. But because his name is attached to a particular set of colored rectangles it becomes a priceless masterpiece. Rothkos are adored by the same set of people who find one handbag superior to another based on its label. It’s the height of pretension.Yanks not getting Art or Culture... :llorisunsure:ochfacepalm::vertna:
I'm lucky to enough to have spent today wandering around Florence (blatant), including seeing Michelangelo's David.
I just don’t get art. I can appreciate it, I like some nice, interesting color on the walls. But when you get around arty people who start talking about a painting’s meaning or how it makes them feel...nope, can’t take it.
Charlene Marsh Studio and Gallery plein air studio oil paintingsI find the pieces VirginiaSpur posted significantly more interesting and exhibiting far greater talent, technique, and unique intricacy than any Rothko I’ve ever seen.

It’s footballing equivalent is the obsession with Brazilians and the idea that they’re all a better prospect to buy simply because they’re Brazilian.

But hey, if it’s coloured rectangles you want let me run off to hobby lobby and I’ll knock something together for you this evening. £25k?
I think there's been a few players off colour this season. Rose sounded good today on the radio, although I didn't catch as much as I'd have liked. Dier is a bit of a mystery to me, as I don't think he's been consistently great since Wanyama turned up last season. That's my outlook anyway, as limited as my viewing has been at times.Just popped in to lament how iffy Dier looked when he came on against Stoke.
There's nothing to understand, the emperor is naked, find some other pretentious way to seem cultured and bourgeois .You don't like it because you don't understand it, nobody likes what they don't understand. If art was only ever about what you know it wouldn't be about much at all. And what would be the point of that.

Rothko is shite.art across all genre's has been extensively forged and sold for absurd prices. whats your point?
warhol basically made a career out of "forging" every day items.
technical skill is one consideration, but probably the most important thing are the ideas themselves.
as warhol said, "art is anything you can get away with".
anyways, i'm glad that dier has an interest in art, and that he seems to have decent taste.
Rothko is shite.
Rothko is shite.Bollocks. Maybe reproductions are shite but the originals certainly aren’t. Francis Bacon is championed as the great colourist, but Rothko was his superior by quite a distance. If there was ever an artist who had been given a disservice by reproductions it was Mark Rothko.
You may not like his stuff, which is of course your pejorative, but within art circles he’s justifiably venerated. Now Pollock, he was shite.
