It’s language and context is everything

I hate it when Spurs lose , or I hate migrants . Context is everything .

The words swarm and invasion in the context used by the government about migrants is all about division in my opinion . It’s designed to strengthen resentment , I cannot see why you would use such language otherwise . You could be against migration and use far more temperate language but that is not being used . Why?
There's none so blind as those that choose not to see.

There's a veritable cornucopia of evidence posted on here demonstrating the similarities in the language. All of which have been ignored.

Wilful ignorance is what allows those in power to erode our freedoms. It doesn't happen overnight, but by the time the wilfully ignorant realise their mistake it's too late. Another lesson that history has taught us time and again, going back to the Romans and beyond.

Thankfully, they appear to be in the minority, if this thread is anything to go by.

Orwell may have got his dates wrong, but 1984 was written as a warning of what could happen if we continue to be apathetic towards our politics.

Most of Europe has mandatory ID cards, you are questioning Lineker for him likening language to Nazi's and doing similar. No issue being against ID cards, it's my natural position, but it no way makes you a nazi
They have the ID cards as they essentially replace passports for movement around EU member states. We are no longer part of that, so I'd be very wary about acceptance of them here.

The first copper that demands "papers" from me is going to give me Great Escape flashbacks!

To get a job you need to show your ID card, I suppose we could do the same for passports but not everyone has one.

Not sure how else we stop the grey economy

Slight change of subject but what does the word ausrotten mean to you?
No, basically no change of subject, McCOYS.

That was my reaction to Distase's suggestion that I should chill.

I don't think I'm very smart myself, I try to join the discussion and sometimes I write and write and sometimes forget to put a point. What I actually wanted to say with my remarks in Post #1.361 was that I handle it personally in such a way that I try (!!!) to show respect to all people. No, I don't always manage to do that, just as I don't always succeed in expressing myself "intelligibly".

Exterminate?

To me, to exterminate - when it relates to people - means an outrageous, criminal, inexcusable way of expression that I detest. And here too - we Germans have done a great job there too! No, I don't go down to the basement several times a week to flog myself because I'm German. But I will not stop remembering what my compatriots have done to the world and I am trying (!!!) to do everything I can to ensure that this is never repeated in the name of Germany.

In short: the language is important to me and I make sure that I don't use certain terms. At the same time, it is difficult for me to understand how the terms Nazi, racist, fascist are used in such an inflationary way.

But maybe I should just shut up on G. Lineker's statement about the British government because I'm a foreigner?!

It's my natural tendency towards caution I suppose. Anything that looks as though it adds another level of "control and monitoring" to our lives naturally raises concerns with me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not thinking that the advent of these instantly means we are smack bang in the middle of a Police state, but I do think caution should be exercised where this is concerned.

I'm not privy to how these things work in Europe, though I'll ask my Old Man who lives in Spain how they affect him.

Maybe I'm being overcautious, due to the cards being raised in a thread that is obviously quite sensitive.

Nope. You're as qualified to relay your thoughts on the subject as anyone. Doubly so as you have such an ignominious history on the subject.

Let's not forget that the subject is the comparison in LANGUAGE to the rhetoric used in 1930's Germany. Some on here are attempting to obfuscate this by attacking other posters political leanings.

Thanks.

It has struck me that the authors of serious arguments supporting Lineker's testimony were very quickly berated and vilified.
I would have hoped that there would have been counter-arguments.

But these very insults belong in the same series that Lineker is trying to explain. It is easy, very easy, to denounce a person and to scorn him. The generalization of people (all refugees are social parasites) is in my opinion a big mistake.

The refugees from Ukraine accommodated in my city are very welcome for my wife and me. But there are figures here too, Germanic figures, who are upset that these people have found refuge here, if only because many of these refugees drive "big cars".

Yes and???? They were busy at home and were able to afford a "big car"!

It starts mocking these people again.

Have been safe again for too long!
We have to be careful what and also how (!) we say something!

Don't worry about airing your opinions it's only a football forum, people have the right to disagree.

Brexit was anti immigration, sold to the public in a very racist way . 10m coming from Turkey who are imminently joining the EU for example . It’s just a massive , humongous failure as Remainers said it would be . Sorry Brexiteers were played like a harp by Johnson and Farage , laughable to try and pretend Brexiteers got the Brexit they voted for
All I said was there will be more immigrants from outside of Europe now, so if anything Brexit has evened up the playing field as all immigrants will need visas etc. I'm not having a debate about Brexit in general. It's simply untrue that Brexit is racist.

What we need to do now is stop the invasion of this swarm of illegal migrants from sneaking in.

Not the swarms!!! They're not fucking locusts, they're people. You can not want them to come in to the country whilst still talking about them like they're people, you know that right? And it's not a fucking invasion, they're not marching here with tanks. This kind of language just identifies innocent people as some kind of enemy, just say you don't think we can support them so should close the borders, you don't have to talk about them like the Germans are flying overhead.

And Brexit was partly influenced by racism. All the most racist, awful people in the U.K were Brexiteers and all the most racist, awful parties were pro-Brexit. That doesn't make every Brexiteer part of that but when Vote Leave's biggest donors include BNP party members then yes, you've got a significant racist element there. Sorry.

Some people think 'illegal immigrant' is a racist term because it is spoken sometimes by far right racists (while wokists conspicuously avoid the subject altogether).

This debate aint going anywhere until that primary school level logical distinction is understood. That is when a sensible middle will emerge.

This thread has moved onto a much broader subject and was about that prick Lineker. I took against him when I watched him in a match around 1993 possibly the Leeds match we lost. He was England Captain with a match due in the week. He clearly on more that one occasion pulled out of going for the ball when a tackle was coming in To avoid injury. This was unacceptable to me as he was placing England above Spurs. I have never seen Kane do that and whilst Son does it I cannot connect it to International football, he is just a bit of a coward.
I did not like some of his comments which are anti Spurs and resent the fact he is BBC ‘s highest paid presenter. So when he again ignored BBC’s impartiality rules, yes I wanted him sacked. My knowledge of Nazi Germany is limited to what I have seen in films and so I do not get involved in those discussions.
I rarely watch MOD nowadays and Lineker is one of the reasons and will not watch it tonight. I watched the World Cup final on ITV because Lineker was on BBC. The viewing figures tonight will be interesting and the controversy will probably persuade more to watch because they support his political views.
if you disagree with this post please say which bits as I have not commented on the politics.

It was also meant to be higher wages , ( not talking about inflationary increases ) next thing Brexiteers will be saying is that workers from Asia and Africa demand a premium over European workers

The whole thing is lies and total bullshit

So you think saying Turkey was imminently joining the EU , a complete lie , that 10 million Turkish nationals were coming to the UK , another lie , was not playing the race card.

it has been proven a total lie , so what was the reason for telling it then
