Ex-Spurs Player Giovani Lo Celso

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Selection of opinions on GLC from ~page 50 of this thread:
I think he can turn our season around. In his cameos his looked so cool and creative. Just what we need.

Nice goal and display tonight from him, he has great close ball control

Great work rate off the ball as well, closing down and winning it back

Very gifted footballer with a great attitude, could easily become a fan favourite.. Same goes for Ryan Sessegnon in a few years.

He's the kind of player I love to see wearing a Spurs shirt. Delighted with my first viewings of him he picks and chooses his moments to tick along, to go for the threat and he seems like a right pest.

Class, he will be a cracking little player and I can't wait to see him get a little run going.

I thought he was very good, he looks like he has a lot more to give as well. Need to play him and in the best position for him whatever that may be.

Bloody hell it has been a long time since I've seen a good corner.

Looked great.

Hopefully that confidence boost will show in the Prem.

I liked him a lot, he was a brilliant tackler as well surprisingly.

His defensive qualities are everything that Eriksen's aren't. Fantastic.

Watching those clips back he's even better than I remembered. Kane looked very impressed. It's been a while since I genuinely felt excited watching us play but finally getting to see him and Ndombele on together (not forgetting Sess) it felt just a little bit like xmas. The fact that they were both well on form added the wow factor.

Love Gio so far, exactly the kind of player we need going forward. If we didn't pay the fee to make this move permanent I'd be quite annoyed.

To me, it no longer matters whether it is a mandatory option or not, we really need to sign him because he’s good!

This guy is incredible.

Ran the fecking show tonight. Albeit on the counter but 10/10

Can't stress enough how good this guy is.

The rightful heir to Modric

You are just going to have to take the L on this one, Ossie Wembley . The guy is class.

I trust this fella with the ball more than any other player in the squad

Getting better and more acquainted to the PL.

Mourinho likes him. Says a lot.

Great game today, just a cigarette paper between him and Tiddley for MOTM.
He has amazing vision, once we get a striker to finish off his moves, we'll be laughing!

Great point. What impresses me is he can hold on to the ball under physical pressure.
He has stopped all that drama queen nonsense when he gets fouled as well.
I am really excited about him.
He doesn't volunteer for dead ball situations, though.

Lo Celso was superb Today never wastes the ball and his use of it is superb. I think if we can get him and Ndombele up to speed Kane could benefit big style once fit

He's going to be a wonderful Spurs player. Everything I love about supporting this club rolled into one little footballer that wears the number 18.

A pleasure watching him so effortlessly do what he does. Love his grit and artfulness also

Love this guy. Not convinced at first but he's really developing. Seems to have time on the ball always which is the mark of a quality player.

Build the midfield around him.

Loved the foul on Walker too...

Developing our very own second "Crazy eyes"

He’s been the standout of 2020 so far. Looking like a great buy and a player that’ll run our midfield for years

Lo Celso is clearly a very good player, I'm glad he's finally gotten a run in the team and he is getting to show how good he can be. He didn't have the best game with the ball, but I thought overall he played well. It'll be nice if we can get him and Ndombele into the same team for a run of games, think they can boss it.

Yeah that was a particular highlight for me.

I love the inventiveness of his play. Its so Modric, the first time passes over opponents head with delicacy, outside the boot passes outwide.

Plus in one game, against one of the best teams in Europe, he showed he can play deep midfield in arguably the toughest league in the world.

Like the way he doesn't panic on the ball, in the second half when he looked to have got himself in a bit of bother deep in his own half he drew two City players in and back heeled through them to keep possession. Backs his own ability and clearly getting more confident, great to see.

His absence was very noticeable tonight. Take him out of the side, and we look like a team that have 11 players who have no clue how to play with each-other.

Another great performance from start to finish, clearly the best player in the pitch.

Love the fact it was him defending our cornerflag in the final minutes.... Man on a mission.... That's a man fighting for his next start, right there!

What I am starting to like about Gio is how he is gradually getting more and more into scoring positions. A common trait of elite attacking midfielders.

Jusrt watched the game. Now that's the Gio I remember from last season.

Only the trolls were being anti-Lo Celso last night. It's clear to most people he was excellent.

MotM last night, wrapped up the City win within ten seconds of coming on, scored five goals (1 in 3)...

Proper shit

Brilliant assist last night. Hope to see both Gio and Ndombele start vs Leicester.

TonySoprano TonySoprano TheSpurEst I'm beyond caring whether you think GLC is good or not, your opinions mean fuck all to what happens on the pitch, the last run of games we have been much better with him on the pitch so I'm happy he is being given this run. The performances have been what I expected, and what I was talking about prior to the run where you were adamant that he was so bad.

The above quotes from 3 separate timeframes, arbitrarily 50 pages apart, demonstrate that there was plenty of praise and positivity about him, before Conte came in and bombed him out almost immediately. Following that the narrative changed to he 's always been shit for Spurs, to me that's revisionism, plain and simple.

One of the differences in the Newcastle game was the sheer energy in the midfield from Sarr/Bissouma/Kulusevski, not sure Lo Celso has that in his locker although not sure why he doesn't - does he take an extra touch which slows him down.

We are not going to sell him in January to Barcelona as he and Barcelona want, unless we can bring someone better in. But with 18 months left on his contract, I'm not sure he's going to sign another contract, so that could be the defining point.

Until then, he's part of the Spurs squad and needs supporting.

Giving him a new contract would be madness, he would need 6 months of prime Modric form to even make that a consideration.

As you say, he doesn't have the physicality or energy of the players you mention (or Maddison) so he will only ever be a bench player. Hopefully he makes a good contribution before we cash in on him in the summer.

Well done.

And as well, 3x as many negative comments can be found. It proves absolutely nothing.
There is absolutely no quote you could find from anywhere in the internet that would rebut the most telling piece of factual information - across 5 different managers, despite being 2nd most expensive signing for us... he has either been available or trusted enough for 28% of playing time in EPL.

I am waaay beyond caring what you think of him. Managers don't consider him good enough, and I tend to trust them collectively bit more than you.

While Lo Celso had 2 nice games, it is absolutely unsurprising that we still got our first win in the game when he was dropped, Sarr returned and Kulu took the no 10 role.

It's definitely not a prime consideration, but I wonder how much his presence is beneficial to keeping Romero around and happy?

Already this season, as soon as he had a run of games where he didn't get silly cards and we looked pretty good at the back, there were Romero to Madrid links in the media, now I don't think he's got some epic love affair going on with GLC that would keep him here no matter what, but if they are tight then shifting GLC on when things are going ok for him may be detrimental to Romero's feeling for the club.

I can see it now.....

New deal.... International break... Injury.

I'm just crossing everything that he stays fit long enough for Maddison to return.

There really weren't, there were the odd comment regarding his output, largely from the same poster or two, and as you can see in most player threads that is always the case, Kulusevski gets it, fuck even Kane and Modric had it (and no, this isn't me holding GLC in the same regard as those two!).

And what it proves is that this narrative that he was always useless for us is false, you yourself even were somewhat positive about him back then believe it or not!

As for the Managers opinion of him, surely you have to concede that it was actually only Conte that felt this way, he played under Mourinho, who was glowing about him on occasion, I can't recall under Nuno tbh and I don't wish to revisit that period to remind myself, and now he seems to have some trust under Ange.

Now the overwhelming opinion of Conte on here is that he is a football terrorist, and his opinion on players isn't too highly regarded (Sarr, Bissouma other notable examples regardless of your thoughts on GLC).

Under Ange 16 games completed in EPL. That translates to 1440 minutes.
Gio has played 287. So in Ange era, his uselessness has been bigger than his whole career, as he as not been available or being just deemed not good enough for 80% of time under Ange.

So while he had 2 good games in the middle, he still has been 80% useless.

Btw, I do believe that I might have praised him for his rare games or that I might have been optimistic when he joined - there is nothing bad to be positive about the player if you don't know his level and abilities yet. But time and time and time and time again after that reality has sinked in.

Like now - he can play a few games, and then 21 yo lad comes on and still is much better than Gio in the next one. Story of his career with us.

But do you at least concede now that he was a better option to fill in for Maddison than PEH???

But do you at least concede now that he was a better option to fill in for Maddison than PEH???

You mean by number 10?
Yes.
But also that he is waaaay behind Kulusevski in this position right now.

In number 8...
They are more or less on equal footing with PEH.
But Sarr is two heads above both.

So if it was up to me, I'd sell both of them in January and buy someone good enough to be a starter in this team.

I don't think he's capable of prolonged periods of playing and keeping his level up.
That's the simple crux of it. He can be good. He can also be poor. And he is often injured.

Only thing Barca can offer is probably a player swap for Gio

Kulusevski is objectively the better player in my opinion and his future is at 10, he is wasted on the wing. I think for this reason if Barcelona offer us in the region of £25-30m for GLC in Jan we should take the money, I also think it's time to cut our losses on Gil, he just never looks like adapting to the PL, Johnson is a good option down the right, Solomon will do for cover there when he's back, I really think we need another LW though. Son will be gone for 4-5 weeks in Jan for the Asia Cup, which will leave us looking very weak in the front line IMO, Richy up top and Gil down the left pretty much the only option we have apart from moving Johnson back to the left and shoving Kulu out right again, which I cannot stress enough, I really do not want to see.
