Harry Kane to say goodbyes to former Tottenham colleagues
Harry Kane will be granted permission to say his personal goodbyes to former
Tottenham colleagues next week.
The prolific striker - the club’s all-time leading goalscorer - left Spurs earlier this year after completing a £120million move to
Bayern Munich.
The transfer brought the curtain down on Kane’s illustrious career with the north London club, during which he scored 280 goals.
But the circumstances of his summer switch to Germany meant he could not say in-person farewells to players and staff he had grown so close to during his time at Spurs in the hours ahead of his departure.
Tottenham and Bayern agreed a deal in principle for Kane’s transfer on the evening of August 10.
The morning after, while the formalities of his move were being completed, Kane requested he be allowed to train with his team-mates for the final time as Ange Postecolgou prepared his players for their
Premier League opener at
Brentford on August 13 - the Australian coach’s first competitive match in charge.
However, because a deal with Bayern was already in place, Tottenham denied Kane access to training that day because they felt it was inappropriate for him to do so when he was on the brink of joining another club.
The prospect of Kane sustaining an injury that could have threatened the switch to Bayern was also factor in the decision to prevent him from training.
However, Kane returns to Tottenham’s Enfield HQ next week when England train at the facility ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy on October 17.
nd Mail Sport understands Kane will be permitted access to all necessary areas of Tottenham’s training ground to reconnect with his former colleagues.
England will spend the start of next week training at their normal base in Burton but will travel to north London on Thursday ahead of Friday’s friendly against Australia.
Gareth Southgate’s side will then training at Tottenham’s base from Saturday ahead of the game against Italy on Tuesday night.
Because it is the international break, a number of players will be away with their respective nations, while it remains to be seen whether Postecoglou and his first-team staff will be present at their Enfield HQ.
Nevertheless, Kane will have the opportunity to say his goodbyes to the club’s support staff when he returns in the coming days.
