Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Lucas starting over Kane is a moot point when Sissoko decided to put his hands in the air so early. God that game was ruined from that moment
Sorry mate but it was ruined when Kane hobbled on to the field

It was a bad penalty call yes but we had 88 minutes to rectify it and never came close but we were playing with ten men

I deffo wasn’t the only one but a huge portion of this fanbase got swept up in the Mourinho hysteria.

The fans were split; there was no huge majority.

I’m just glad it’s over and honestly I’d like to pretend his reign never happened.

Shame we’ve selected his footballing equivalent of a Godson to move forward with but he’s essentially a glorified caretaker with his contract.

You brought him up; no-one else......

We’ll have to agree to disagree but I believe Kane knew that he wasn’t fit enough but hoped that he would get away with it and fooled Poch

I'm confused as to how people believe he fooled Pochettino.

Fitness tests post injury recovery will show you pretty accurately where a player is at. They don't just get you to run a bit on a treadmill. They'll put you through a battery of tests, including using kinetic machines which will test how strong your muscles are currently.

Then you're cleared, and you will take part in training games. You can't hide, the coaching staff will be able to see clearly if you are unfit here. There's no pretending or lying to the manager on these issues, you either pass the tests and then look fit in training, or you don't.

Assumed chain of events:

- Injury was declared healed (presumably by medical team)
- Kane vouched for his feeling up to playing
- Poch made the final call and picked him.
+Poch thought it would give the squad, club and fans an emotional boost by playing him.

I’ve seen many a key player with dodgy fitness status start finals. Coaches more often than not will pick them to start.

- Ravanelli for Middlesbrough in the 97 Fa cup Final

- Ronaldo (Brazil) 98 wc final

- C. Ronaldo euro 16 final

- Diego Costa 2014 CL final (he lasted 9 minutes!)

The Kane situation is so so overblown. Liverpool were the better team going in and showed it on the day.

Far more retrospective analysis should go into why we lost a semi final to Portsmouth in 2010. Now that needs unpacking.

There's a difference between fit for training and cleared medically, and fit to play a game like the CL final. The truth is, you won't really know for sure if you're sharp enough for that until the game itself. Both manager and player could have felt confident based on how he looked/felt, but then the game itself can be too much.

The notion which is silly is that he was only cleared as fit because he lied or tricked somebody.

Dear god, I'll say it again. Get a grip.

I have no interest in 'defending' Kane's performance. He was rubbish, and should have been substituted. Unlike you I don't have an agenda about this topic, if Kane leaves in january or the summer I'll feel very little. If you think showing me a clip of Steve Nicol talking about a game means everybody else should just quit their analysis on the spot though, you're having a laugh.

I don't know what is fake or fantasy about stating that going 1-0 down vs a great defensive side who are happy to play on the break probably wasn't great for us. You seem to have interpreted this as 'we never stood a snowball's chance and my favourite player Harry Kane was blameless'. I don't know why. I think starting Kane was probably an error, I just have my doubts the alternatives would have won us the game.

You're welcome to disagree .. but pretending that take is comparable to being a 'flat earther' is laughable.
You should have an agenda.
We could have won the Champions League

People brushing off this game then crying over a shit PL match, Christ

So you’ve never seen a player be eased back into football after a ten week lay off?
Starting on the bench?

You think this was a game to test Kane’s fitness in?

Brushing off? I was devastated! It was years ago though, that's football.

I ordered a Chinese and as it arrived Sissoko gave away a pen. Couldn't eat the food, was too angry. Also struggled to sleep that night because I was too annoyed at how the game had gone. People cry at a PL game for a week or so then forget it.

Kane being crap in the final played a part, I'm just not willing to fully blame him, or accuse him of blagging his way in to the game. It's a team game and the manager had the final decision. We played and lost as a team, and I'm sure Harry was as devastated as anybody else.

But you should blame Kane more than Eriksen or Son because those players started the game in peak fitness where as Kane knowingly didn’t.

You can pretend he had no say in it all you want, you’re either very naive or brushing it off

It’s very easy to hide a niggling injury but giving Kane the benefit of the doubt and saying that he wasn’t actually injured but just not match fit would cover it

Poch took a gamble on Kane’s say so

It isn't. An injured player will have MRI scans before being cleared for recovery, and medical staff will be able to see clearly if it isn't fully healed, and whether the tendons are strong enough for him to play. At a medical centre itself they can just run ultrasound checks to get a basic idea of how the ankle will have looked.

Poch would have had plenty of time to assess Kane himself, he was in training for a while before the Liverpool game. If he was looking unfit in training sessions then he shouldn't have been picked. My suspicion is he looked good in training, but that didn't translate to the sharpness needed for a game like the CL final.

Kane categorically had no say in whether or not he was in the starting lineup. He is not a manager, or part of the coaching set-up at all. Him saying 'I want to play boss' doesn't give him any power to actually put himself in the team.

Spirited defence I’ll give you that which hasn’t altered my opinion one iota

What if his ankle had healed and he had picked up another injury, which often happens, and never said anything?

Whatever he clearly wasn’t match fit and was a passenger from the start which is on both him and Poch

How do you know that he had no say in it?

Were you at the training ground listening?

So naive then. Better than brushing it off I suppose.

It wouldn’t give him any power under a manager like SAF or even Jose, but we had Poch, who is tactically inept
