Management In search of Mourinho's successor.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Over 5 seasons. That list is about £20m more than Mourinho has spent in 14 months, whilst recouping must of the money on sales.
About £350m was spent in 5yrs, but that is not the point.

These players were bad buys. Whether over 5yrs or 5 decades, they were still bad buys. Trying to hide behind recouped sales doesnt change the fact that they were bad buys (e.g. city paying £50m for Walker doesnt justify spending £42m on Sanchez. We are not City that can spend £42m on Mangala). These are now among the players that have become a burden on the roster and difficult to move on.

If we had bought better players, the quality of the squad would have been better, and Poch probably is still manager. That is a mistake that should not be repeated.

I alteady asked you, if these players are so shit how comes they were part of the team that made the UCL final and top 4 that season? How could Poch do it and Mourinho, clearly the better manager due to countless trophies he’s won, can’t?

Bad buys happen. Look at Mourinho at Utd. How much on Alexis Sanchez? Even the likes of Alex Ferguson made some shockers. You still have to earn the right to spend more money and i can pretty much guarantee that Levy will be thinking the same.

Yep. I'd also say whilst they have never been anything special Sanchez and Moura were always ok squad players. Both now look unpickable apart from playing the likes of Marine. They have massively regressed.

(and I had answered earlier) Cos you can be lucky in cup runs and there were other better players around them. A clearer measure of the quality of the squad is the performance in the league.

Poch saw the decline and that is why he wanted new players.

Something the silly folk must consider:

You are on a budget and need to strengthen.

You can go for guaranteed successful buys or potentially successful buys or punts.

The guaranteed successful buys cost too much.

You need more players. Something is better than nothing at all.

What do you do?

You buy potentially successful buys or punts!

Many worked out. Some worked out exceptionally well.

Stop this lame argument that makes chequebook managers with bottomless pits of cash look like genius scouts who make shrewd purchases.

Poch earned the right to rebuild and he got shafted instead.

Alexis Sanchez was a player swap which cost ManU £0. The issue was is massive wages.

Bad buys happen, but the consequences for City and for a club like us with a limited budget are totally different. We simply cant afford to spend that much on bad buys. It doesnt matter who the manager is, eventually the squad will become poor where you cant move your dead weight cos nobody else wants them particularly at the wages they are being paid.

Transfers were fine early on, and the squad improved and it showed on the pitch. As the bad buys piled on, the squad declined till it now needs a massive overhaul (which is what Poch wanted). That Lamela is still here should be a felony.

We seem to be signing well again, and the players bought have improved the squad, but we are still missing at least a playmaker in midfield and a top quality CB. That is a bare minimum imo before you can objectively look at the manager, but we cant afford to repeat the mistakes of bad buys.

Tbh im judging jose on where we finish and whether we win trophies which is why jose was brought. No top 4 and no trophies then jose has failed. Seems dier is joses best mate at club. Couldnt believe how poor and 2nd rate we were v liverpool. Unacceptable.

Brighton are 17th. Are going to park the bus against them? Expect a routine win. Most annoyingly were capable of playing possession attacking football. Need a proper right back fast in summer. Would surprise me if real called regulion back so that area needs to be addressed.

Couldnt agree more. Poch knew we needed a rebuild. But levys ego again.

Indeed. With no signings in 18 months, pretty much all the squad not having a summer break because they were playing until the end of the world cup and most of our home games being at Wembley. All with a squad that is now only fit for the glue factory apparently.
I almost forgot we did all that with no home. Blimey, the gulf in coaching talent is unreal.

Sanchez was still a shocking buy and cost them a fortune in wages. There are many others at his time at United. He spent a fortune but badly. It happens though. For us so far its mixed, Hojbjerg and Reggie have improved us, jury out on Rodon and Bergwijn but hopefully they'll come good. The other 5 have been a waste of time.
