Player James Maddison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He's from Coventry. He started out in their academy, Attends their games now and he has played for Leicester.

He might not want it but, by the start of next season, it may be his best option.

How they gonna afford him or his wages, he's on £170k a week

He's also about to add 2 more to his family and is settled in London.

My original post suggested that Maddison going to Coventry would be conditional to them getting into the Premier League.

if Coventry get promoted to the Premier League, which looks very likely at the moment, Maddison will be back there I reckon.

Does that clear it up for you?

No issue with Maddison but Spurs need players who can play at least 30 league games every season.

Maddison's injuries have been a feature of his career.

Spurs need to buy a replacement in January and get Maddison fit enough to sell him.

In my opinion.

Shame he didn't have one season with Kane to help him settle.
Come on now, this team is filled with average players. We need any player that can win matches that we can get, and Maddison is (maybe was) one of them.

We need to see how he looks coming back from injury before making any decisions.

I'm not knocking Maddison.

I'm saying Spurs can't afford to wait for Maddison to get fit, towards the end of this season, in the hope he can ever be the player we need him to be for a few years.

Maddison will be 30 early into next season.

I think he's done tbh.

Spurs need to replace him for the long term and recover whatever they can in the summer.

In my opinion.

We'll probably have to wait until January 2027 if we want to sell him, because he'll need a few matches to show he's still capable, otherwise we let him go on the cheap.

Why are we making an assumption that Maddison will be a diminished player when he returns? He may come back in better shape than ever. His body could well have benefited from the time away from the constant grind of playing matches and hard training.

There are plenty of examples of players, across all sports codes, coming back from serious knee injuries with no ill effects.

He is a very creative player and can still, I think, be a big asset for us.

This is very true. I’ve seen lads come back a different animal from ACL injuries and I’ve seen some just wilt away. A lot of it is down to the individual and how mentally strong they are and how dedicated they are to their rehab. By the sounds of Madders he is certainly motivated to come back better.
What you find a lot of the time with longer term injuries is they actually come back stronger because they do so much rehab and conditioning on a daily basis that they wouldn’t do if they were training and playing constantly.

Good shout. JD came back so much stronger for one :)

What's more the guy actually has competition with someone who can take some of his mins regardless.

I feel like it wasn't a reach trying to get him from Norwich in summer of 2018. He was discussed and clearly was talented but not a sure thing. We instead signed no one. Basically the start of Levy's downfall. All we had to do was cough up 22 million and maybe the end of Poch's tenure turns out differently.

Because "super scout" Pochettino refused both Maddison and Tielemens, who were cheap and available. Well known, or have the winds of time changed this
