Serious question - is Skipp able to offer the things Sissoko does and more?
When you look at how Mourinho has used Winks and PEH recently, there is a workaround around Sissoko. If Skipp is not preferred to do box to box role, then PEH is Sissoko replacement, while Skipp to play the anchor role.

The only question is whether Skipp can cement his place and fight for as much minutes as possible with us. If we deem Skipp is already there, then even in this January window, we would just say sorry to Norwich and recall him.

We can’t recall Skipp, deadline has passed.

Hojbjerg is a DM whereas Skipp plays a very similar roll for Norwich. Neither of them can replace the physical attributes of Sissoko. Ndombele can play alongside Hojbjerg as we saw against Sheff Utd but if our primary formation is going to be 433/4231 then we need a new box to box CM in addition to already having Lo Celso and Winks, especially with Alli and Fernandes looking likely departures.

Shame on Skipp option.

PEH played the box to box role just fine. He's much better than Sissoko in winning the ball higher up the pitch, or breaking up play. That's what he had done at Southampton with Romeu playing the anchor role.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. Sissoko physical attribute is overrated. You can have all physical attribute in the world but if your football brain is not good enough then you can't make full use of it, which is the case of Sissoko. His role is very limited. Mostly about tracking runners: reacting. Where as if PEH play this role, we can be more proactive as we can read the play and stop the dangerous play before it become a free run for opposition runners. A collective combination of 2 all rounder defensive midfielders should outdo what Sissoko can offer. That's before we're talking about potential elevation of the third midfielder when all players are on the same wave length.

Gedson needs no replacement. He has been out of the plan this whole campaign. His situation can be solved by letting some of our young player from academy game time.

Dele situation is all about working around HG.

He's a really good midfielder from what I've seen. High level passing, good shot from outside the box, good to tackle and intercepts play. Excellent at retaining possession and moving the ball from defensive areas. Not the quickest and a bit languid in movement, but not lax in defensive responsibility. For a player comp (and some who've seen him more than me might scoff at this) but I don't see his style as too dissimilar to how Cesc Fabregas played under Mourinho at Chelsea in 13/14.

I've watched Neuhaus a few times, have to say Doc, I've not seen the Fabregas comparison .

I don't dislike Neuhaus, but I don't think he's Fabregas level "clever" or "technique" wise. He's a promising 8/up and downer with good physique, reasonable technique and a decent engine, without being particularly quick. Does a bit of everything ok/good and seems to support attacks well. I'd say he'd be an upgrade on the likes of Winks (and Sissoko obviously) as CM's but I do think we could do better - either a more talented and dynamic 8 or a more specialised 6.

Without the ball he's OK, not lazy, but his pressing (I've just took a peek at the actual numbers and they bare this out) is not mind blowingly great, comparable to Winks for example, and his reading of defensive situations is average, not terrible but not great. Camavinga's reading of defensive situations and his off ball movement is already superior IMO, and he's 18, Neuhaus is 23 - but then Camavinga is more of a 6 so I guess you'd expect that, Neuhaus is probably more 8 who can graft a bit too.

Funny, because I'd never considered the comparison until today when someone pointed it out and I can actually see it...and it illuminated for me why we might be interested. His passing is very good but not world class like CF's but he is more 'dynamic' than CF. It made sense but still didn't change my mind about him in the PL even though I really like him.

Mmmmmm, Camavinga is myth; got some talent, burst, and is active but undisciplined and without much of the intangibles of a MFer. MOTD player as of now. There! I said it. He needs to get into a team to learn a role and become more team oriented. Best thing that could happen to him is moving to RB or some other club where he could learn. The longer he stays at Rennes the lower the slope of his trajectory.

I didn't really mean like for like, more replacing him in the squad. Skipp would likely be competing with Hojbjerg or playing next to him in tougher games. Hojbjerg, Skipp, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks as our CM options next season i dont think we need a replacement for Sissoko. I'd hope all our money goes on a top class centre back, a right back and someone who can match the quality of Son on the right hand side.

PSG reject (box ticked for Levy), experienced ageing winner(Box ticked for Jose).

Yeah I can see this having legs.

He’s vastly better than Lucas and Lamela. Probably Bale too.

This market is all about pragmatism. If we get Ings and Sabitzer with just one year left on their deals, Di Maria on a free plus Skipp coming back, shipping out Sissoko, Lucas and Vinicius, that’s a big upgrade to our squad at a reasonable price.

I am just glad this link seems to suggest we are looking at midfield replacements and reinforcement. At long fucking last.

Last line I concur, I would worry about him in the chaos of the PL somewhat.

I very much disagree, and think he’s the antithesis of a MOTD player. The things he excels at are not anything eye catching. He’s a bit one footed, he’s strong and has some technical press resistance but needs to keep working n it, He doesn’t specialise in MOTD moments, like goals and assists or tricks and flicks or 30 yard diagonal passes.

Rennes have him playing more the “8” this year (with Nzonzi as the 6) which at first I didn’t like, but I think it will improve the “football” side of his game, so maybe there’s some sense in it.

What I really like about this kid most is what’s between his ears and his character. His tenacity and mentality. His decision making and reading. His composure for his age. Even this weekend when I was watching the game against Lille (which Rennes largely dominated) I was watching his reading and movement when Rennes were in and out of possession. For a kid of 18 it’s exceptional IMO.

If you want a little cameo of what I’m talking about try the 50-60th minute of the game v Lille, and by now he’d run himself ragged, but he was still constantly moving to receive the ball, and demanding it, played a clever pass when hemmed in on the byline, and was moving into the right spaces to cover team mates when Lille had the ball. He talks a lot and tells older players what to do and where to be. At 17-18 that is pretty exceptional.

He will need to move to continue his development and the right choice will be really important. I see his future very much as a more disciplined 6, but one that can play some football too.

I don’t think he’ll ever be a MOTD player personally.

Watched that game yesterday, and it was absolutely toilet.
